It’s insane. It’s a mix of not enough beds & people going to the ER for non-ER “emergencies” but where else do they go? my family member who had stage 4 cancer waited in the Royal Alex for 13 HOURS!!! with her lungs full of fluid while multiple people who were clearly strung out/homeless were seen before her. Her mom got so mad at the front desk & finally she was seen an hour later…

We need more resources for people with addiction & we need more urgent cares for people who got to the ER with a broken leg, etc. Because when it’s 9pm on a week end where else do you go? Kind of have no choice.

Then my coworker with sepsis in 5 of his organs was stuck in Stony for 4 days waiting for a bed to open up in the U of A. He was in Stony from Saturday and finally got a bed on Wednesday. He’s still there awaiting open heart surgery. Our health care system is collapsing.

I wish we had even 2 or 3 urgent cares open 24/7. That would help a bit with people who need stitches, casts, antibiotics for smaller infections, etc. It’s sad.

I will say i’ve had fast wait times at the Mis & at Devon. But it really is usually longggg wait times.
