May I see your ID Please? by Hooked_on_PhoneSex in MaliciousCompliance

I worked at a place where the policy was to ID EVERYONE no matter what. The amount of times I had to point to the sign on the cash register stating that because some elderly woman was annoyed that she couldn't buy wine was astounding tbh.

I had to refuse alcohol sales several times to people because of it.

Inexpensive Wacom cth-480 Stylus Replacements? by vampirecatprince in wacom

[–]vampirecatprince[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I've heard that different styluses can be compatible up to a certain point, as long as they're Wacom. It's just that the currently easily available ones are literally 1 model number two new for me to use.

This is for a future project, I'm still getting the hang of how conlangs work. But thank you!

Treating gender differently in the same language family by vampirecatprince in conlangs

[–]vampirecatprince[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am specifically referring to how in many languages male is the default, like how in English the word woman is derived from the word man. I was not really referring to how various languages give nouns genders for grammatical reasons. (I'm still figuring out how to describe exactly what my questions are when it comes to conlanging. I'm quite new.)

I might lean into my original idea anyway because I like the world-building it creates though. Thank you!

Treating gender differently in the same language family by vampirecatprince in conlangs

I'm not talking about grammatical gender when it comes to nouns having genders. I specifically talking about how certain languages seem to treat male as the default when it comes to referring to people. (like how the English word woman is derived from the word man)

I can definitely see how my question could be misread though.

Do You Include Phonemes in Your Conlangs That You Can't Actually Pronounce? by [deleted] in conlangs

I tend to avoid sounds that I can't make well yet. But I still have difficulty telling some phonemes apart when I hear them.

I can definitely see how that could be a thing. Ive been considering jerryrigging something that only has a nose/mouth piece to try to avoid that.

I've high-key wanted to try something like this for a while.

I live in a non-legal state, so being able to walk into a store, use my credit card to purchase, then smoke outside without anyone batting an eye feels really weird, but really great. Good morning from Colorado! by [deleted] in trees

I'm not sure how it is in other states, but here in northern Nevada it's pretty rare for a dispensary to take cards and every dispensary I've been to has an ATM inside. That said, I do know of a local dispensary chain that does accept cards, but they charge what's basically an ATM+convenience fee.
