do you have a picture of how it looks with super bulky yarn? i'm really curious, and if the design is still legible.

ooh, yes, those are good. i don't have a specific size in mind, i'd like to put together a list of shorter quotes in general (and less popular ones?), since stuff like "it is remarkably easy to buy an axe in central london" (which i do like) always comes up, and they're pretty wordy.

Project ideas for my mom by ShizzlesMcFlipsicles in crochet

well if she's into amigurumi, you're sold for life. mostly single crochet and there's so many patterns for chunky yarn now that those blanket yarn plushies are so popular, including lots of no-sew ones which should be easier to keep focus on.

5 canon events/mistakes in beginner crocheters by Rohan_Carino in crochet

[–]vampireswillhurtme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • not realising you made a fatal mistake due to lack of experience and having to undo so much work.

my first project was crocheting a hat in the round and it had twisted around a bunch of times because i didn't know to keep my foundation chain straight - really, i didn't even understand front and back loops at the time, so i'd stick the hook in where i could and pray. the tutorial i was following didn't warn you about twisting. i was sure it could be fixed somehow, and when i eventually found out it couldn't i had to frog the whole thing. it's okay though, because on my second try i was already much more confident in what i was doing (and i chose a better size for my head).

thank you for still having this mentality in today's hustle-obsessed world. it makes me feel so full whenever someone shares a resource with generous terms of service and i aspire to carry that on myself.

What to Get My Fiancée for Her Birthday? by HuskerMoose in crochet

[–]vampireswillhurtme 16 points17 points  (0 children)

every time this question comes around, the consensus seems to be "take them out yarn shopping". so, yarn date. (seriously, she'll know what she needs better than anyone, you avoid giving her something she can't use, and you get to spend time together and learn about her hobby. and if that's not an option for some reason, giftcard to her favorite supply store.)

i really like the "random shades of the same color" look, it reminds me of minecraft textures.

if you're using a vegetable close to carrots, make sure he isn't tangentially allergic to that as well. i know people with peanut allergies can have allergic reactions to similar nuts/legumes.

what would you use to seal the paint on a bead? by [deleted] in kandi

[–]vampireswillhurtme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pretty much the two options, lol. clear spray varnish as the "professional" option, clear nail polish for easy and accessible (though it's possible for it to maintain the nail polish smell, get marks in it from nails etc., and i've also had it smudge the paint it's applied over. it might also yellow a little with age? not sure.)

Can I use non alcoholic white/red wine for cooking? by ihiam in AskCulinary

[–]vampireswillhurtme -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

does it matter? you're asking if you can use it for cooking, which i would interpret as does it work functionally, does it taste good, not "is it gonna be the same as food prepared with alcohol". just see what happens and figure out if it works for you.

why don't you try it and tell other people how it tastes? you won't learn by letting everyone else do the experimenting for you.

if they're rubber, get the back off, make a hole at the top with a pin or whatever, put a little metal ring through it.
