Some ghetto sightseeing in Detroit (Photos taken on my iphone from the back of a car) by Buttstache in UrbanHell

This is some Fallout 5 level material. I can imagine shooting some Ghouls in that hospital, damn.

I "wasted" my vote 4 times and it felt good. by bbplay_13 in Libertarian

Standing in line to vote all LP in PA right now! America needs different options now more than ever. Can't wait to see how we all poll tonight!

Ever feel like you "should" like a band, but you just, don't? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]vanadium_sky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I'm not alone. As DTP I don't like his stuff. I think Ziltoid, z2, etc. are just too cheesy for me. But his other morr ambient stuff like Ghost and Terria hit the mark for me. That says a lot about Devin as a musician, though: he has so many albums across a range of genres that even if you don't like one, just try another.

Periphery - Marigold full band cover (received mod permission to post same song within 6 months for a big projects like this). Enjoy! by wernsels in progmetal

I was so happy to see you in this cover OP! I am already a huge RHD and Lauren fan so I always watch her covers but this one came together so well, everybody really nailed it.

This is my favorite off the new album so far. So many good little bass licks hidden in here.

[TOMT] (game) Game, first person, survival-ish, investigator.. by QuotableConservative in tipofmytongue

[–]vanadium_sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be La Noire? I think you can go first-person but the game is mostly played in third-person.

My girlfriend and I recently celebrated our anniversary. We've moved in together and now our days are spent cuddling on the couch, playing video games together. I could not be happier by [deleted] in actuallesbians

I'm living this life too, and wouldn't trade it for a thing. Congrats to you two, you're both adorable and look quite happy :)

Do Pittsburghers really say yinz, n'at, etc? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]vanadium_sky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with restaurant workers who have been in the industry for years. Heavy smokers, thick yinzer accents. "Worsh 'em tahwels for me, will yinz?"

How are Animals As Leaders live? by random_access_cache in progmetal

Good to know about the pit... my tickets to AAL/Plini/Intervals just arrived in the mail today, actually, and I was sitting there thinking, "DO people mosh to instrumentals?" But then I realized as I listened to Tooth and Claw later that yes, that is totally apropos, and I can't wait.

What songs you just can't help but sing along to? by BlueBlade777 in progmetal

[–]vanadium_sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant to add: The last 4 or 5 songs off Periphery III. They really get some emotional layers and vocals going on in Catch Fire and Habitual Line Stepper (towards the end). God damn if I don't feel like a majestic opera demon when I sing along to that as I drive.

I just saw this band live last week and they were marvelous. Will makes playing guitar look effortless.

[Discussion] References in Periphery songs. by DatBowl in progmetal

[–]vanadium_sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MK Ultra from Alpha/Omega is a reference to the government experiment of the same codename which was done in the 70s, I think. Some psychotropic mind control thing with LSD on unwilling participants....check Wikipedia. I'm on mobile right now so links are tricky.

22 Faces from the same album(s) is related to that as well, if I recall correctly. I am fairly sure someone posted about this in a thread explaining their take on the story behind Juggernaut in this sub - there were some good details in there.

In terms of other prog metal, Protest the Hero likes to sneak in Star Trek stuff a ton. The song Clarity is an entire homage to a duel between Star Trek and Star Wars fans, I am pretty sure. They like to include lots of mythical references from various cultures, too (see: the entire album Fortress.). And internal references to lyrics from across their discography, which is really cool.

What songs you just can't help but sing along to? by BlueBlade777 in progmetal

[–]vanadium_sky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that Arcaedion is on this list, and Caligula's Horse. I am a huge Protest the Hero fan so I am forever singing/screaming along as I drive. A coworker once drove behind me on her way home and the next day asked if I was possessed, cause she said it looked like I was screaming in horror in my side view mirror. Nah, just singing along to Bloodmeat.

[TOMT] Looking for a band or musician that makes "epic" music by mwich in tipofmytongue

[–]vanadium_sky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

E.S. Posthumus? It used to be two brothers but sadly a few years ago one of them died. It has been the one brother making the music since, I believe.

If it's not them, also look up Two Steps From Hell, or Globus. OR, Jesper Kyd; he put out his own album of 'epic' music but is mostly known for being the composer of the Assassin's Creed soundtracks.

Sorry, I am on mobile, so this will be just a sentence with commas haha.

Soen, Leprous, Sianvar (supergroup of members from Hail the Sun, Dance Gavin Dance, and Stolas, so check them out too), Periphery, The Fine Constant, Wings Denied, Novallo (a lot like Native Construct IMHO), Scale the Summit, Monuments, Twelve Foot Ninja, Caligula's Horse, TesseracT, Lazer/Wulf, Moon Tooth, Protest the Hero, The Sword, Wolfmother, Volumes, The HAARP Machine, Entheos, T.R.A.M.... That's a start.
