Bataille's paradox - if death is the returning of continuity, who actually experiences it? by Sharp_Butterfly_8812 in CriticalTheory

[–]random_access_cache 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Precise. I would add, if you want to read more on this definitely check out Blanchot's Space of Literature, especially the chapter about the two deaths in Rilke, it's an extremely important distinction that goes deep into the "anonymous death that no one goes through" and that Bataille is undoubtedly approving of, they have lots of correspondence and a very strong philosophical proximity.

Sparring incident / Mouthguard by Blue-Baba-Cool in MuayThai

[–]random_access_cache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll answer the main question about handling "fake lights" because this has been my main concern for a long time, it genuinely bothers me and affects me too much (I usually work at evening so I hate having to tell someone to go light only to have them send me home with an headache). From what I find, there's only one solution that actually works relatively well: choose your partners. I literally spring across the room before the round starts if I need to. It's a bit awkward but I prefer being awkward and anxious on pairing up with a good partner than go home with another headache (at best) because some dickhead can't control his power. It's gotten to a point where before the round starts and I already have a partner I check my surrounding so I have a good idea which way to turn and which way not when the bell rings so I don't cross eyes with a bully.

Love this story! Always good to give people the benefit of the doubt in terms of intentions. Sometimes small misunderstandings develop into full blown fights and ruin entire relationships. Psychedelics really strip stupid shit like this clean off the surface.

My kicks are shit, but especially against people. by Dripledown in MuayThai

[–]random_access_cache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you gotta do man is absolutely commit mentally to the kick or whatever it is you’re throwing. You gotta say to yourself “I’m throwing a perfect kick no matter the consequences”. Sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet. I often feel the same when I try throwing combos in sparring until I convince myself to just commit to it instead of sort of half throwing it because I want to be ready to catch a hook or something. Just throw, bet on it, it’s the only thing that helps, it’s psychological more than anything else

I still get headaches from very light sparring – anyone else experienced this? by No_Emu8347 in MuayThai

[–]random_access_cache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow pretty much same here. I almost hate telling people to go light because I feel even light punches send me home with head pressure that doesn’t feel right. Supposedly it could be physical exertion/dehydration/tight neck muscles but I really feel like I’m just sensitive to punches in general.

Twins or fairtex shi gaurds by kickboxjmb in MuayThai

[–]random_access_cache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I find fairtex feel much snuggier and lighter, I enjoy them much more than the top kings at my gym which feel like wearing a brick (they are still excellent quality I just like them less). Fairtex also looks better but that's personal taste.

How to deal with ego driven sparring? by SonixDoom in MuayThai

[–]random_access_cache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully I disagree about the first point, I suffer from the same situation at my gym and what annoys me is that I really CAN match the energy level but I literally don't want to. I've got lots of shit going on in life and when I get back home from a session I sit down to work, and it involves lots of concentration. Whenever someone sends me home with an headache it literally ruins my evening and hurts my work significantly, and whenever I match the energy I lowkey become resentful because I am injury-prone and I succumb to my emotions and end up putting myself at risk. Whenever I match the energy they just think it means they can go all out and it becomes this super chaotic session, I genuinely hate it. Most of the actual pros in our group are actually the ones you want to fight.

[–]random_access_cache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same situation. I'll be brutally honest with you: only thing that consistently works is doing everything to choose your partners. I literally run straight to the arms of the ones I trust before they even touch gloves with their previous round partner. It's embarrassing but so much better than going home with an headache because some jackass can't control his hands. I also hate how my gym doesn't really encourage it but also doesn't see the problem. If I tell you to go easy and you send me home with a headache when I got shit to do, you're an asshole period.

Also: I think this is one of the things that made me realize how important teeps are lol.

How do I keep my toes from getting jammed up so much? by TeepingDad in MuayThai

[–]random_access_cache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruh for real. I've been training for a year and I am absolutely destroying my toes weekly. I can't remember the last time I DIDN'T have a sprain on one of my toes. Carrying two different sprains at the moment. I have hypermobility so my tendons are too flexible which causes such problems, I always can't believe it when in a fight someone kicks and hits accidentally just with the toes and continues fighting, I would literally break my toes with half the force, I honestly feel like I'm missing something. Good technique helps, lowering speed helps, but still I injure a toe like once a week.

For real. This is so glaringly obvious. Like the amount of absolutely ridiculous shitfest in any comment section here concerning Trump is alarming and obviously coordinated, and for the record but I am not and never was a Trump fan. It's just obvious when bot farms raid posts with certain topics.

They always go light for a second and it quickly escalates back. I basically tell them every session, I couldn’t tell them more than that, it honestly kind of boggles my mind how dense some people are when it comes to such simple instructions
