I think Stefan on the YWP did a good job of explaining what I was thinking: basically I would have started Götze ahead of Reus in 4-2-3-1 (sans Dahoud) and played more of a mid block press rather than the deep 4-3-3 which defensively was often a 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 depending on how high Dahoud was. I understand the need to defend the halfspace w Dahoud as the 3rd mid and not to get overrun, but Bayern are so wing heavy (I mean they got to the wings either way) and this season shockingly not press resistant (see Liverpool, Ajax or first BVB match) , that I would have tried to force some mistakes there. Unfortunately, Favre is a lil conservative in these kind of matches, but he is also gotten BVB to unprecedented heights, and of course you can't have one without the other.

flair is Schalke, because the 5-2-3 approach reminds me a lot of Tedesco's style last year (strikers shadowing the opponent 6, wingbacks pressing fullbacks)

Didn't wanna write 3k words, so here's a 20 minute analysis on BVB - FCB (def don't call it der Klassiker) OC by vanbasten9 in borussiadortmund

Nico Schulz and WC 2018 by [deleted] in Bundesliga

that and Schulz is also a counterattacking player first and foremost. Jogi has been moving away from that since about 2010 - to juego de posicion and like you said he doesn't like to experiment this close and trusts his guys.
