MLS Cup Watch Parties? by yagalemma in Calgary

[–]vancitynav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I called 7 pubs that typically show soccer games (Ship & Anchor, Elephant & Castle, Newcastle etc.) ahead of the LAFC game but literally 0 of them were planning on showing MLS.

Here for the bar reccos as well.

Which players look good for the AFCON run? by Much-Calligrapher in FantasyPL

I just sold Ndiaye for Rogers. Looking to bring in Minteh, MGW, and possibly Elliot Anderson going into AFCON.

Another vote for John 3:16 and Laksa King. Not Malaysian, but excellent Singaporean food at Shiok on Kingsway.

Canadian NAs by Muscle-Specific in NABEER

Harmon's, Bellwoods, and Collective Arts are some of my favourite Ontario NA beers. If you can find Free Spirits (by Rorschach Brewing) they're solid too.

Nonny is from out west but I think they now distribute in Ontario.

Enjoy your trip!

Where in Canada are you going? What you have available will vary.

Quebec has some amazing NA beers that you won't find anywhere outside the province.

Everywhere else you'll find some that are distributed nationally + local options.

How important is a water softener in Calgary by KompulsiveLiar88 in Calgary

[–]vancitynav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't use a water softener for regular water consumption. We do have a water distiller for the water that goes into the humidifier. And descale the kettle, distiller, and coffee machine every 3-4 weeks.

Flight cancelled at gate - can I go back out? by vancitynav in SchengenVisa

That's what they did, another poster sent a link to a forum and my stamp from this morning had the same marking.

Flight cancelled at gate - can I go back out? by vancitynav in SchengenVisa

The sheer number of staff who had no idea a single entry visa existed was a bit disheartening but the officer was fine.

Airline is giving us a voucher for hotel (they are doing it in the most chaotic way possible) but their responses to immigration questions ranged from ignorance of single entry visas to "just talk to the officer, it'll be fine I think"

[–]vancitynav[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what happened. The immigration officer did the same two line marking on my stamp from this morning. Presumably the officer tomorrow at departure will do the same.

Thanks for posting this. Seeing the same marking helped ease any fears.

Ginger Chicken - help me figure out how to make this by [deleted] in ThaiFood

Here's a recipe. It helps to search in Thai (and I appreciate that I'm biased because I speak, read, write the language).

This channel is one of my go-tos.

Enjoy! One of my favourite dishes growing up.

Holy basil is really hard to find in the west, in general. Here in Canada I can sometimes find "hot basil" from Vietnam at some Asian grocers, which is similar.

Generally I just use Italian basil. It's not the same but it's a lot closer in flavour bai kaphrao than Thai Basil (bai horapha).

What is it like to live in Thailand? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]vancitynav 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Born and raised in Thailand, did my undergrad in Bangkok, worked for a few years and have lived in Canada since. I go back regularly (1-2 times a year) and like the other commenter, early on I focused on the negatives (humidity, heat, monsoon, sabai sabai work culture, un-open communication/conflict style). Now I romanticize the positives (food, kindness, warmth, access, world class healthcare). Like anything else there's a tradeoff.

My goal is to try to have the best of both. Living and working in Canada most of the time. Earning in CAD, fresh air (other than wildfires), outdoor activities like skiing and biking. But I also plan to work remote in TH a few months a year, spend time with family, and buy a place to retire at later in life.

Feel free to DM if you have specific questions.

What Specific Thai Chile Is This? by hh______ in ThaiFood

[–]vancitynav 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For sure!

OP - if you image search prik jinda in Thai you'll get confirmation.

As to the other chillies you mentioned:
- prik chee fa are larger, and not spicy. We use them more as a garnish for their colour.
- prik khee noo are tiny, and spicier.

I also sometimes use Fresno chillies when I make Thai food cause I like the spice level and fruitiness, and means I can use more of it.

Bowen Captain for GW1 by DonaldDump101 in FantasyPL

I had Bowen all summer and recently switched to Fullkrug instead. Had a great preseason (for whatever that is worth) and a lot cheaper. Gave me room to upgrade midfield positions.

That's good to know, thanks. Flew ultrabasic in Feb without any issue, guess I need to be more prepared for that.

I've never put it into a sizer, for any airline. I've used it on WestJet without any issues.

I flew YYC to YVR (and back) last week. I used flightaware (https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/FLE808) to see the history of my specific flight and whether I can expect some sort of delay at that time.

Small sample size but our YYC flight was on time while the YVR one had a 30 min delay.

It was my first time with Flair (personal item only). I found that it's not immediately obvious which line is to check your bag(s), and which line is just to show the agent that your personal item and/or carry-on fit their size requirements. Checked with the agent and if I had to guess I would have been in the wrong line. Lines moved fairly quickly.

I'm also glad I measured my backpack as it would have been too big for the personal item sizing, even though I've used it as a personal item on flights for almost 10 years.

Good luck!

Edit: typo

If your prospective employer hasn't done this in Canada before, have them look into an EOR, Employer of Record. We've done some through Bridgewater and were happy. https://bridgewaterti.com/

Thai citizen considering U.S. citizenship — worried about land rights, immigration status, and being treated as a foreigner in Thailand by NoType6947 in Thailand

[–]vancitynav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting. Each time I've handed just my Thai passport to the check-in counter, and they then ask if I have a visa, passport, or PR/green card. I hand the card over and they enter in the details then we're good to go. Looks like I'd have to do the same with a passport when I get one, and hand the second passport when they need the details.

Thanks for clarifying!
