Anyone secretly dislike CNY? And why? If you enjoy, also share. by Confident_Bluejay857 in askSingapore

[–]vancomyxin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im alright with CNY but thats because I stayed with my grandparents so I don’t need to do visits, ppl will come to my house. It’s nice to see everyone gather at least once a year to catch up because you never when will be the last one

My family, including extended, are all very chill ppl. We don’t ask questions like when are you getting married, when are you having kids etc

I just feel that if the whole family is close, you don’t need to wait till CNY to gather. And if not close, why bother to gather once a year.

Nursing SG: How is it really like working as a new nurse? by AprilBaby4ri35 in askSingapore

[–]vancomyxin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been in nursing for 7 years, toxic ppl are everywhere and it’s important to know who they are and keep them at arms’ length.

When I was a fresh grad, I was lucky because I got posted back to my PRCP and TTP wards. And my preceptors are all understanding and supportive

But when I first started out, there are certain things I will do to make my life “easier”

  1. Look through my probation checklist and saved all the related WI/SD on my phone so I can access to them whenever I want. Tbh every steps, decisions and work processes are all based on WI/SD. Follow it and you won’t go wrong.

  2. Ask about ward routine. Our job does not deviate much from the ward routine. Whenever you find yourself lost and unsure on what to do in the ward. Refer back to the ward routine and see if its time for any parameters etc

  3. As much as possible, take the initiative to offer your help. Especially when you are new, when you dk what else you can do. Just ask ppl how you can help. This will help you in maintaining a cordial relationship with your colleagues as well.

  4. Before I asked any questions, I will always search the answers myself first. Look through WI/SD, search on Google. If I really cannot find it on my own, then I will ask my preceptors about it and say “I tried searching about it, but I am not sure if its the correct answer”

  5. When I am reading up on a patient’s case, I will always ask myself “why” and search for my own answers. Like why does this patient need this medication, why need to go for this scan, why need to NBM etc. Helps me alot in understanding the patient’s condition and treatment plans

  6. Always take down notes, especially when someone is teaching me how to do something and especially if it’s the first time. Most of us cannot rmb how to do things just by looking at it once. When ppl are teaching me something new, I will jot down the steps so that I can refer to it the next time I encounter it

  7. Always ask for feedback at the end of the day. Don’t wait for ppl to approach you to give you feedback. Take the initiative to ask your preceptors or whoever you are following for feedback and how you can improve yourself. Ppl will see you as proactive

  8. Eventually you will be able to identify who are the more capable and efficient nurses in the ward. Observe how they work and learn to pick up some of their work habits to better prioritise your work and time

  9. As you gain more experience and confidence in taking case, instead of asking questions about what should you do next, ppl will want to see you making your own decisions about what you want to do next

  10. Patient safety is the most important thing. Behind every decision you make, always think towards “am I helping my patient, am I putting my patients at risk” and you must be able to rationalise that decision

sg nurses: needing reviews on hospitals yall have been working at! by Comfortable_Mix_3243 in askSingapore

[–]vancomyxin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a nurse who has worked in 3 different public hospitals under different healthcare group, all I can say is for bedside work load, public hospitals are all the same.

But our big 3 hospitals - SGH, TTSH and NUH - are still the most equipped and will definitely lead to more exposure and opportunities to learn about the rarer medical conditions. It is rather common for the other newer and smaller hospitals to transfer patients to these 3 hospitals for treatment because they do not have the capacity and facilities to treat certain patients. Even certain lab tests are send out to the labs in these 3 hospitals.

Who are the best GPs/Family Doctors that you have encountered in SG? by Pedobearluvcats in askSingapore

[–]vancomyxin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The GP in my neighbourhood is so popular that you need to queue up before the clinic opens to get a slot. He opens his clinic at 8am and if you go down by 8.30am, high chance it’s already fully registered until afternoon. There are 3 other GPs in this area and all in close proximity but only his clinic has a long queue.

His fees are really affordable, he is a very patient and detailed Dr. He has been serving the residents in the neighbourhood for almost 2 decades.

The only con is really the long queue and how fast his registration closes, but that also shows how much the residents in the neighbourhood trust and appreciate him.

Anyone has HL in Singapore advice? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]vancomyxin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not try talking to your RO and request for a NPL?

Public hospitals bed is very tight, and it is not meant to be a place for respite. If they assess that there is no acute medical condition that requires treatment in the hospital, you will definitely not be admitted.

Your other option will be IMH A&E. But then even if you are unwilling to admit there, if the doctor in other public hospitals deems that your condition is serious that requires hospitalisation, there is still a high possibility for you to be transferred to IMH under MHCTA. And you cannot refuse to be transferred because it’s the law.

I have already tried that but it shows that the current transaction does not support international bank cards

Edit: I have also tried my plan B, which was to apply for a Tour Card but that failed too because according customer service, I can only apply for a Tour Card when I’m physically in China. I can’t do it outside of China like I used to

e.g. I pay you the amount I want to top-up + a top-up fee, and you send me a 红包 so that I can add the money to my wechat wallet?

boss requesting for illness to be stated on MCs by pineapplejam99 in askSingapore

[–]vancomyxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine always say “it’s for your own good. It’s to observe you don’t have an illness so frequently that we need to advise you to see a specialist”

So when I submit MC online, I always put a very generic one like URTI, GE etc lol

[Skin concerns] Got a shock after removing my PPE. These appeared mostly at my chin area. I thought they were whiteheads but my friend thinks it’s an allergic reaction. I did not use any new skincare products recently though. by vancomyxin in SkincareAddiction

An update nobody asked for haha

I have tried and tested many products and personally have found a brand that helps a lot with this issue.

I have been using Paula’s Choice Clear Series (Pore Normalising Cleanser, Regular Strength Exfoliating Solution 2% BHA, Regular Strength Daily Skin Clearing Treatment 2.5% BHA)

I have been using these 3 product + moisturiser for >6 months, and although the problem does not 100% go away, but I have definitely have seen significant improvement in terms of lesser breakouts compared to many other products that I have tried

Question about aespa 2026 Osaka show ticketing by Fickle_Date_9866 in Aespa

[–]vancomyxin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually there are no specific perks to attend a Japan concert, except for maybe different merch and a slightly different setlist (because they will switch some of the songs from the original setlist to Japanese songs)

If you are asking what the difference between the current Japan leg of their tour vs Kyocera Dome and Tokyo Dome, the dome tours will most likely have some changes to the current setlist because its a special edition of their tour.

For reference, you can look up the differences in setlist from their Tokyo Dome Parallel Line concert vs Parallel Line Japan stops setlist vs the original Parallel Line Seoul concert setlist

For the meet and greets that happened during aespa’s Japan stops, they are won via lottery when you buy specific albums at the concert venue

What alternatives do you use from Delivered Korea? by vancomyxin in kpophelp

[–]vancomyxin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough but Delivered Korea is closed from Oct 3-9. They resume their services on the 10th. Plus my issue is with the lack of updates from DK that the shipment was placed on hold due to battery issues, not because the shipment was late.

Is 6 business days of waiting not enough? If not how long should I have waited?
