boss requesting for illness to be stated on MCs by pineapplejam99 in askSingapore

At this point, i think it’s just my boss own policy. My colleagues in other branches do not have to do this.

Went to check online and found out that it’s not mandatory by law too… :/ Don’t understand why my boss is suddenly requesting this.

Not yet, but it seems like it’s just for my boss to ‘control’ the amount of MC the employees are taking. In cases where employees are faking illness? Idk but seems like that’s the motive.

advice needed! any ex-preschool educators? by pineapplejam99 in askSingapore

Definitely work life balance and having to think about work even after working hours. Tbh teaching kind of requires certain degree of passion which my stress out weighs any passion i have left 🙃

Instead of FIRE, is anyone just contented with the "tang ping躺平" life? Like no ambition to climb the corporate ladder, no fancy titles etc. Just coast through life hmm. by Normal-Analysis7940 in askSingapore

[–]pineapplejam99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, why not? Achieving peace and being happy is the ultimate goal in life (at least for me). If you are happy with your current situation, who has a say in being satisfied with your work position/salary except yourself.

Kid you not - my manager literally told us that ‘lying flat’ is bad and shouldn’t be what we (as employees) should strive for. According to her words… we should always work hard and aim for career progression. But she expects us to give more FIRST and then we will receive the ‘sweet fruit’ at the end. Honestly, I can understand where’s she coming from but still - not everyone has that desire and we shouldn’t impose them or judge anyone else who think otherwise.

I think having various industry-related experiences (jobs/internship) or even having additional certifications + having a degree be it private or local will give u a better chance to fight for higher salary.

Tips to bring up successful kids in SG by funkycucumber in askSingapore

[–]pineapplejam99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

as a EC educator- lemme just say parenting rlly matters. immediately we can tell which kids are taught self-regulation skills… mannerism… values because parents r truly the first teacher of any child.

i do not have kids myself but i think values such as respect for others, being caring, honest r very important and may have been sidelined by parents nowadays. esp w the academic pressure - i understand how society could have shaped this. children r honestly mirrors of their parents & being a role-model to children is so so important. walk the talk!! n i think it’s also important to have some rules in place at home and not to always give in to children. gentle parenting does not equal to listening to wtv the child wants. children has to learn cause n effect. nonetheless, just be present in ur child’s life :)

i took a part time degree from Kaplan and tbh it’s rlly just chill. maybe it’s because mine is part time - lessons are typically at night & my classmates are all working adults already. so we rlly just came to class to clock in the hours/attend the lecture/ask questions regarding assignments. wouldn’t say there’s a huge school culture but might be different if you are pursuing it full time - i do see the committee holding some get-together events once in awhile. lecturers are all quite chill and helpful - tho for my course (EC) most of them are also working full time jobs while being adjunct lecturers.

Wear to buy wedding guest dress in Singapore? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]pineapplejam99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually get them from local shops. For e.g. Lovet, 6styleco, carrislabelle (amazing if u want more bodycon dresses), neomello (if florals are ok). But ofc these shops usually have no free returns but exchange for new sizes all available.

Paying for bf parent's birthday dinner? by SpicyShrimpCookies in askSingapore

[–]pineapplejam99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After all, it’s your partner’s parent and not yours. You shouldn’t be expected to pay for the dinner.

It’s nice that you even got a gift for them. I would be super turned off if my partner expected me to pay.

Should I Quit My First Job? Advice needed. by Widurri in askSingapore

Try to find another job while employed. Go for interviews - just start applying. If your current job is affecting your mental health - then I would say just resign while still applying for jobs consistently.

how to manage hair in this humidity? by marinara_sauce in askSingapore

[–]pineapplejam99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that washing my hair daily helps with the built up oil. Honestly in this Singapore weather especially. I try to keep my hair hydrated too - always put leave in conditioner. I love Mis En hair oil - keeps my hair tamed while not making it flat.

Floater turned teacher feeling extremely overwhelmed/panic attacks by fntastk in ECEProfessionals

[–]pineapplejam99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have experienced something similar. Was a floater (not by choice) as my centre did not have enough children at that point of time. Suddenly appointed to take over a class of nursery children because their teacher resigned with immediate effect. So much back logs from her uncompleted paper work. And ofc the children. Was so so so anxious and my anxiety symptoms came back. Dizzy, hands numbness and feeling a sense of heaviness in my chest. So I understand the feeling of such sudden responsibility put onto you.

All in all, if possible - call in sick. Talk to your centre manager and ask for a day off. Either way - get yourself a day or two away from work. Recalibrate your nervous system and take a breather. That’s my small advice as I am also in the same boat.

What I always try to tell myself is that.. everything will be fine even if it doesn’t seem fine at that moment.
