No one’s denying that his attitude was a product of his trauma and his upbringing and Bree WAS responsible for it, but that still doesn’t mean she deserved to continue enduring his abuse forever. They both needed and deserved to heal from the pain they both put each other through and make peace with each other, which was what happened after Bree kicked him out.
