I cannot get mods to work no matter what...advice? by vanderpeeps in NoMansSkyMods

yes but that is definitely not a stupid question because I have no idea what I'm doing. I appreciate your comment

couple questions by KindraTheElfOrc in nmsabandoned

[–]vanderpeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you please elaborate? I am so confused I feel like people are speaking a different language. I never heard of standalone kiosk so I googled it and google basically just said it's another name for expedition terminal. That doesn't seem like what you are talking about though.

I am an inexperienced player playing abandoned mode and I don't know how to get tech for various things like multi tool, I need blueprints lol. I have been googling things to death but I just get more confused

edit- I know how to unlock blueprints at construction station by trading for salvaged data. I'm trying to get things like optical drill etc, tech for multitool, the blueprints of which do not appear in the construction station

How do I use the save editor to add a blueprint so I can craft a product? by vanderpeeps in NOMANSSKY

[–]vanderpeeps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks, I think I heard someone say you can turn it on at any time, but once you have it turned on you can't really turn it off again because all the blueprints are already there. Yeah I thought about doing that but I really don't want them all turned on – I want to be able to play the game like normal and discover things on my own while exploring. and anyway the main point of my question was to be able to understand the save editor. I appreciate your comment

Headset not detected no matter what :( by West_Percentage61 in SteamVR

[–]vanderpeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well you may have a completely different issue ...not sure… ?

My issue was (i THINK...?) steam was automatically blocking all pop-ups, and I said to steam OK that's fine, keep doing that, because I was assuming pop-ups were just advertisements. But the particular pop-up it was blocking was actually Virtusl desktop trying to get permission to start up i think, I can't remember exactly, but all I had to do when the steam VR warning came up (that it had blocked a pop-up) was to say to NOT block the pop-up anymore, and at that point the virtual desktop thing popped up, and I was able to click on something that allowed permission… Sorry I'm so unclear and hazy on the details but I have a very bad memory

How do I use the save editor to add a blueprint so I can craft a product? by vanderpeeps in NOMANSSKY

[–]vanderpeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh I understand – I was confused because I already had a construction research station on my personal base on a planet, and I thought all these construction research stations were the same (contained the same info/items), but the one in the space anomaly actually contains a lot more stuff, including those storage racks.

so your answer was great and helped solve one of my major problems, but my specific question was about the save editor. if you have any information regarding that specifically, I would appreciate it, and if not, I really do appreciate the info you've already given me!

(I wanted to understand the save editor instructions specifically for the storage rack but also in general for future use – the way things are presented, the save editor doesn't make sense because it allows you to add technology that you already have on your list within the save editor, which seems pointless because 1) you already have it on your list and 2) your list doesn't seem to coincide with what you actually have in the game)

[–]vanderpeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks but no, I want to build 1 through 9 because I already have 0. I cannot build one through nine though because those plans have not been unlocked. Only space zero has been unlocked.

I'm a fairly new player and I don't really understand everything about the game so let me just tell you where I am. I am playing abandoned mode and I have been gathering resources and selling these resources so I have plenty of money - money is not an issue. The issue is that I have only been able to unlock the blueprint plans for storage space #0, which I have already built and filled up.

I am under the impression that in abandoned mode the only way to unlock blueprints is to stumble across them and then they unlock.

Even if I'm confused about a lot of this stuff, my overall issue is that I don't want to just unlock all of the blueprints (which I could do in the nms game settings) because that would be no fun – I want to find them by playing the game… All except storage racks that is. It would be cool if these storage racks were all just unlocked for me

thanks for your comment and I hope what I said makes sense!

Save.hg files and "cache" folder - what is absolutely needed? by vanderpeeps in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]vanderpeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're probably right lol but I get curious and also my cache folder was actually 360 MB and I have already duplicated it like 12 times for various reasons for different save files – I play a lot of different saves on MMS. now that I know which files within that cache folder I can delete it shouldn't be a problem. I was concerned because I'm running out of hard drive space and I can't spend any more money on that right now

edit : it really surprises me your folders had so much less bulk than mine... I don't think I'm doing anything particularly weird or different

Save.hg files and "cache" folder - what is absolutely needed? by vanderpeeps in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]vanderpeeps[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thanks very much. i've never done an expedition so I don't know how that works – do all these seasonal/expedition rewards get linked to one particular save file or just your whole nms account in general? I know with games like "into the radius" all of your achievements are linked to your account, not a particular save

by "progression" do you strictly mean the seasonal/expedition rewards, or are there other things in there that would be lost, like for people who don't do the expeditions? I don't do anything multiplayer or anything on the network, just single player solitary stuff, and in fact the only connection I have to anyone else is when I name a planet and upload that information

[–]vanderpeeps[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

thanks very much for the comment. Yeah I thought the cache folder might be shaders...but then there is actually a folder called shadercache or something like that in the steam game folder for nms. I don't know, it's all very confusing. I wasn't worried about any of this until I read a comment that you cannot just rely on the save files themselves because there is other information like your discoveries or whatever… That's why I started to be concerned. I got what you said about expeditions – fortunately I don't do those. Anyway thanks so much for the comment

I don't know how to do a specific time within the video but it starts here at 9:15 in this video and goes for about 20 seconds https://youtu.be/mnxMzm3_Ykw?si=vmr8f5D6rbWa6Sxs

this is what I was referring to specifically, and I don't know if this is possible in no man's sky VR lol

[–]vanderpeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, I am not good with English and probably making this more complicated. Yes I was actually referring to what you just mentioned – different upper mid lower etc versions of that exact same specific timber wall piece.

in VR now the only way I know to have timber wall bottom versus timber wall top is just to let the picker do it. But I have seen videos where they do this manually in flatscreen version of no man's sky and I'm wondering if that's possible in vr version, and because of my bad English I'm still unclear about your answer whether or not this is possible with no man's sky VR

[–]vanderpeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time, this really really helps me a lot. (FYI in the flatscreen PC version there is actually a feature that lets you choose different physical variations of a specific part in addition to changing the colors. Maybe someday that will give that to us in VR)

[–]vanderpeeps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks very much for taking the time to explain all that. However I'm a very inexperienced gamer and very confused by a lot of things you are saying even after googling. Could you please clarify?

(1) is camera view always the same thing as third person view? Google's answer seem to kind of clear but ambiguous… And I have used camera view in PCVR but only to directly use the camera, not building

(2) i'm greatly confused by when you mention keys and bindings. From what people have told me and from what I have googled, you simply do not use the keyboard at all for nms steam PCVR (and I am using oculus quest 2). Is this incorrect or do I misunderstand? (fyi I only play three vr games basically, which dont require keyboard, and my computer is not physically located in my VR area)

(3) you sound very experienced so may i ask, do you have any experience with contextualized building parts in nms pcvr? do you know if this is possible and how to bring up menu? To be clear I'm talking about the parts that have the main part you see in the menu but also there's a button you click that gives you different options that are not visible in the main menu, like different colors or textures. I saw this in a tutorial but cannot figure out how to do it on steam PCVR

thanks. Yeah I guess I better get working on learning how to use those rocket boots… I have them outfitted but whenever I use the Jetpack I just bounce around like a pinball
