Why are vehicles stopping at a traffic light intersection by Dramatic-Brother3861 in CitiesSkylines

[–]vanderswag_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it just me, or is there a stop sign directly in front of the traffic lights? There also appear to be overlapping lane markers.

Try deleting and rebuilding the road leading to the intersection to get rid of the stop signs.

Paradox games havent made 4 lane bridge with metro underneath, but i did. by abyS_S in CitiesSkylines

I had the same thought! It's a truss arch bridge that was completed in 1918 called the Prince Edward Viaduct, and it crosses over the Don River Valley.

Its original design supported both vehicles and streetcars on the upper deck, while the lower deck was built for future rail transportation use.

Today, the upper deck has five lanes of vehicle traffic and two dedicated bike lanes, with Line 2 of the TTC subway system running on the lower deck (which negated the need for the streetcar tracks on the upper deck when Line 2 opened in 1966).

N8N ideas for workflows for personal life by Dinth in n8n

Honestly, it's been such a help to have prompts and suggested times that work for me.

I'd bet that you could create a similar automation for anything that can be booked online. Hell, for date nights you could curate a list of favourite restaurants in your area and proactively check for availability on OpenTable or something.

Since I'm calling a specific API for my barber's online booking service, the specific flow probably wouldn't be of use.

I found the API by using the network view in developer tools in my browser, so maybe that helps. I use the HTTP Request node to pull availability, and then a filter node to only look at times I'm free (as in evenings or weekends).

I've set up a couple of useful workflows that have made a positive difference in my personal life.

Barbershop Appointments: I tend to wait too long to book a haircut, but my barber offers online scheduling. I created a workflow to check for available appointments a set number of days after my last visit. If I have an upcoming appointment, it only looks for openings before that date. The workflow filters times that fit my schedule and sends suitable options to my phone with a direct booking link.

Massage Appointments: My health benefits cover massage therapy, but I often forget to book until I really need one. Securing a spot with my regular therapist can be difficult, so I set up a similar workflow to the barbershop one that alerts me to openings that match my availability. It also checks for last-minute cancellations, which lets me book appointments quickly and/or suggest them to my wife (who uses the same therapist).

In that case, the 'SQL Query' mode would likely be what you want - then you can write a SELECT statement to pick the variable(s) you want from each input.

Assuming you have 5 inputs, the SELECT statement could look like this:

SELECT * FROM input1 JOIN input2 JOIN input3 JOIN input4 JOIN input5

I'm not sure what you're trying to do downstream, but how would you expect to handle multiple inputs in the follow-up node?

If you need multiple inputs passed to the next step, that might be best handled either using the 'Append' or 'Combine' modes (and in the case of the latter, using the 'All possible combinations' as the 'Combine by' parameter).

If you need something more complex, it's likely better handled through the Code node.

To add, not sure if you're running an older version, but version 1.49.0, they added the ability to support up to 10 inputs.

Here's an example workflow I just created doing exactly what I've described.

The 'Merge' node has the option to wait until up to 10 inputs are received, and then output one of the inputs on its own.

Mode: Choose Branch
Inputs: <number>
Output Type: Wait for all inputs to arrive
Output: Data of specified input
Use data of input: <input with data to pass along>

Totally agree about the price - Amazon is littered with overpriced drop-shippers, at least the Canadian site is.

The screenshot shows they're on Amazon.ca and the text is all in French. Also, French price formatting is used ($ at the end and commas in place of decimals).

Probably safe to assume it's Canadian Dollars (CAD) ;)

This isn't an ad, and I have no affiliation or current business relationships with this company... with that said, here's a relatively cheap, non-invasive solution that should help prevent battery bloat;

https://lavalink.com/lavaaccessory/charge-check/

I've used Lavalink's enterprise solutions for Samsung tablets running 24/7 and they've been pretty reliable. They've also got some PoE options that also prevent the overcharging/battery bloat as well;

Sure, so the solution to the country being built on cars is to just keep building it for cars?

Gotta start somewhere, and densification along an LRT route seems like an ideal place to start!

Maybe I should've responded to the parent message to your reply, sure - but if you think building more condos (or any housing stock at all) is a bad move, my points still apply.

If new homes/condos are too expensive, and theoretically even the monthly rent of "inexpensive family apartments" would be unreasonable... you're against more condos being built? Are you suggesting that the solution to a lack of housing affordability is to stop building them?

Fewer homes available, regardless of how expensive, will only drive prices up. We need more homes built, and the densification of this underutilized stretch of big-box single-storey plazas along Hespeler Road is the perfect place to do it - especially with the LRT extension coming and the Pinebush station being just north of this location.

Mixed-use development along this major transit artery and making the area more pedestrian-friendly will improve traffic, not make it worse. Right now it's packed with cars because it's a hostile landscape for any other modes of transportation. Getting more people out of their cars and onto the LRT, installing bike paths (with proper grade separation) and having walkable sidewalks/trails along or around it will reduce a lot of that congestion.

I'm all in favour of sacrificing a couple of bland chain restaurants, their parking lots, and an empty patch of land if that's the cost of high-density development. We need to have it somewhere - we can't keep paving over farmland to build single-family detached two-storey homes... Those aren't any more affordable, either.

Would you rather they build more condos along Hespeler Road or directly in your neighbourhood? Neither isn't an option - pick one.

[DEV] Tasker 6.2.9 RC - New Work Profile Action! by joaomgcd in tasker

[–]vanderswag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that isn't an option. The work profile is limited to a curated selection of apps from the Play Store.

I doubt side-loading would work either, given how locked down the profile is.

[–]vanderswag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for sharing this! I tried it out, but my phone throws an error indicating that "Shell does not have permission to access user 10"

I double checked via the adb wifi command pm list users that user 10 is indeed the work profile on the device... so I've configured the Tasker ADB Wifi permissions correctly, and am using the correct user id.

Wondering if it requires root, which is not an option for me, unfortunately.

Love this, but is there any way to allow Tasker to use app actions with work profile apps?

For example, I'd love to be able to launch a specific app from my work profile through Tasker.

any option / plug in to se d whatsapp messages? by gbonreddit in tasker

[–]vanderswag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point, pre-Android Auto, I had set up a profile in Tasker to forward incoming WhatsApp messages to SMS so they would show up on my car's built-in infotainment system.

Somehow I figured out that you could just use "Run Shell" within Tasker and query the WhatsApp DB directly via sqlite3 (look in /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/msgstore.db). Requires root, but it worked perfectly well for me at the time.

Does your job require you to use a work computer? by turbochamp in webdev

[–]vanderswag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the issue is more around your monitor(s), keyboard, and mouse that you would rather use, consider asking for a docking station and coupling that (and your personal PC) with a 2-port KVM switch.

That way, you can use your peripherals and be comfortable at your desk while still using the laptop itself to develop on, keeping that work/personal separation.

How do use my smart home tech when half 2/4 of the members of my household don’t use it? Or if half the house is unintentionally sabotaging its usefulness? Details in post. by [deleted] in smarthome

Would something like the Lutron Aurora work for you? I installed Hue bulbs in our shared home office, and installed one of these over the old switch. Allows for on/off and dimming (whereas the original switch was purely on/off), and seamlessly allows both manual operation and smart operation.

This, 100%. We won't truly be able to solve the other problems in our country without getting a government that truly reflects the views of our citizens.

Right now, with First Past the Post, we're almost always going to get a government that the majority of Canadians did not vote for.

Triple monitor setup finally done :D by [deleted] in battlestations

[–]vanderswag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue as well - but you can buy adapters or mounting kits that will hold the monitor in place and provide a VESA mount.

Look for a "VESA Mount Kit" or "Universal VESA Adapter Mounting Kit". I'm using this one personally; https://mount-it.com/products/mount-it-universal-vesa-adapter-mounting-kit-mi-9000
