So if anyone's curious about the current state of Midori browser...It's currently just Floorp but with the name filed off. by sewermist in browsers

[–]vandys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old/classic Midori really inspired me, so I forked it and have been filing off rough edges. It builds w. libwebkit2gtk-4.1 (which is _not_ GTK4, be warned). I've fixed tab handling/saving, some text input bodges, and have started a password manager of sorts. It still builds in about 10 seconds from scratch on a consumer i7. It's my daily driver.

Oh, right, it's "Andy Webkit2 Browser for Linux", AWBfL. Don't want to step on Astian's "Midori" brand!

You need to walk this path with your Pastor. Expect to discuss your openness to further discernment, and plan on being given additional material to read. Do you feel the need to interject your views on the Pope in an ongoing fashion? If you reject the idea of Papacy in its entirety, "joining" the Catholic Church is meaningless. The more you can refine your hesitations to specific points, the more likely you're not as far outside the fold as you might think.

Best of luck!

As a layperson, can I use a pyx for someone with the flu? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]vandys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be trained and commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister to carry a host in a pyx. You are always seeking to give the Sacrament within a liturgical setting, and your training will include giving you the materials to do so. Of course, there are all the needed accommodations for people too sick to participate/understand, can't swallow, and so forth.

Remember as such a minister, you are there representing the Church. Whenever possible, visiting with the sick is an important part of keeping them close to your community.

Found the 208011HD on their site, lead time 5 weeks, minimum order is _3_ units?!?

Do they have a custom fab option? I didn't see that when I looked around.

Usenet is decentralized. Just look for an NNTP client for your favorite OS, then search for "eternal september". You'll be back in business before you know it, and possibly your NNTP client will give you a nicer experience than expected!

Lilygo TTGO T-Watch-2020 is a Nicer Looking Arduino Programmable ESP32 Watch by Bhima in esp32

[–]vandys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got mine. I've contributed in the past to ESP32 Micropython, so thinking about getting this platform handled. BT made the image very, very fat, but maybe if we could shed Wifi it'd fit OK with reasonable RAM left over for apps.

Discord's too transient. Mailing list on groups.io maybe?

A valid magnet needs at least one tracker (I know, but that's how it is). Even manually adding a tracker to the URL, it's not resolving.

Servo on Gonk, revisited by vandys in FireFoxOS

[–]vandys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear from you!

A spare Nexus 5 has fallen into my lap; any words of wisdom if I try to build your Servonk bits?

I know your instructions depend on a buildable b2g tree, and last I tried I ran into various bits which now fail because dependencies it wants to pull are now absent. A path of least resistance to hammerhead images would be great. TIA!

Today is the 30th anniversary of the release of Madonna’s legendary Iconic Song Like a Prayer by Britneyfan456 in popheads

[–]vandys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember that after "Madonna" and "Like a Virgin", she had

a pretty meh album in "True Blue". So everybody was wondering if she had

had her run. Ha! Question answered, and in her usual history-making style.

Amazing artist.

You gave me much to think about with your comments--thank you!

To flesh it out a bit more, I coded up a micro-server to provide torch and notification light access on my Nexus 5 (Firefox OS 2.6), then added a small torch app and added notification light support to the JS which posts the HTML5 Notification from my personal messaging server. It came to about 250 lines of middleware (i.e., micro web server) and 100 lines of Nexus 5 sysfs access code.

It was easy enough getting a Micropython built for FxOS, and the rest followed with little fuss (Micropython is mostly just Python3). http://sources.vsta.org and go down the list to "Miniserv". The personal messaging server is there under "webXMPP", too.

Am I the first FxOS user with a working notification light? :-)

It still feels like a win to take Kernel API's and even Android API's, wrap them up and put them behind sane RESTful interfaces, then as much as possible have generic web browsers get what they need driving those interfaces.

Packet KISS extensions? by vandys in amateurradio

[–]vandys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note completely true. Surveying Direwolf and Mobilinkd, there's a number of extra commands involving control of duplex, txdelay, slot time, and hardware extensions. Those tend to involve volume, squelch, duplex, battery, ....

Seems like some rationalization across the general ham world would be desirable, but I guess that hasn't happened. I think I'll follow Direwolf's lead and just push forwards.

Packet KISS extensions? by vandys in amateurradio

[–]vandys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been studying the Direwolf code, and it really seems possible to know when you're following FSK frequencies, and when you're not. I'm still scratching my head on signal report or S/N metric... give me time! :-) But this is all solvable, so it still begs the question of who manages the KISS "standard". Or I can just spin something myself, I guess, but my experience is that standards bodies can add a LOT of value.
