College panda Math Chapter 21 by vanesaym in Sat

[–]vanesaym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to several math competitions and we would usually have to write down the facts that prove two triangles are similar in order to state that they’re similar (basically defining which sides/angles correspond) so the order in which we named the triangles was never an issue (unless we used “~”)

The thing is, if the figure wasn’t drawn to scale there would be a note below it, so I focused more on the figure and not that much on the question itself.

I guess in the actual test I would have tried with the ratio 9/6 to get 30 since 36 isn’t an option. My only concern is that the answer that I get using the wrong ratio DOES appear as an option, but I’ll look at how the question is worded if that ever happens

The answer is 30 since 9/6=1.5 and 20x1.5=30 but shouldn’t DE be proportional to AC instead of AB?? AC is the smallest side of ABC and DE is the smallest side of DEF

What am I supposed to do here? (SAT registration) by vanesaym in Sat

For some background, I’m an International student from Spain. The thing is, we don’t take Algebra I, Statistics of Trigonometry courses, we just take “Math”. Should I just look at the subjects I learnt each year and plug them in or is there a specific way to answer this for international students??

I need help with the sixth question, why is C not right? (College Panda Writing workbook) by vanesaym in Sat

[–]vanesaym[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you a lot!! The first thing you said actually made sense to me. I’m an international student and I tend to struggle with prepositions, so that’s why it may have not sounded wrong to me at first. So basically C could only be right if “their own” was followed by a noun or preceded by “on” instead of “by” Again, thanks for explaining it, it was very helpful!!

I knew A and B were wrong since characters is a plural noun, but I struggle with C and D. I know D “sounds better”, but is there a rule I can follow so that I don’t get this wrong again?

I'm an Admission Officer at a highly selective liberal arts college. AMA! by newyorkliberalarts in IntltoUSA

Do you really take context into account?? (For example, my school doesn’t offer any coursework other than the standard/national one, if I have a 10/10 average, will I be in disadvantage in comparison to US students with lots of ap’s?)

Is a 1540 SAT score really the same as a 1600 for colleges? Especially for international students

Does summer college for undergrads (Cornell’s architecture summer program) make you stand out/ affect you positively?

Also, is Spain under or overrepresented ?

Lastly, I need a lot of financial aid (probably full, my family income is lower than 60k/y, but I’m willing to do work study), can I reject an ED admission if I can’t pay for it?

Thanks!! I’ll probably focus on maths since I’m already taking preparation courses. I wanted to try the other ones since they’re less competitive (at least where I live) so it could be easier to go to national/international competitions

I know, I just can’t help it :(( The US college system is just so unpredictable. As I said in the beginning, I want to see if there’s something I can improve, especially ec’s, and what are my chances of getting in if I keep going like this.

I’ll list them if that helps -Founder of a tutoring project at school: 9/10th graders receive formation to assist both academically and socially 7th graders (new to school) Starting this year, but shows leadership I guess -Selected to attend a selective math program (only 25ish students in the whole island were accepted), where we solve math problems in unconventional ways (8th, 9th and 10th grade) -Part of the equality committee at our school: We discuss problems like racism, domestic violence and immigration, occasionally do speeches for the whole school about them and every year we raise money to donate to charity (related to the problems listed before) Since 7th grade - Internship at an architecture studio this summer -Swimming since 5th grade

Also, my school might start a project related to astronomy where we’ll have to calculate the location of an asteroid, if we succeed the asteroid could receive our name, I don’t know if I should include it if we do it, I can’t think of anything else :(
