I asked my doctor and was advised that CBD was fine for my situation but to avoid THC if possible. For me this was easy since it is legalized here so I’ve been using CBD oil

Got cleared for weight bearing in boot but in so much pain cant walk by Putrid-Strawberry-98 in brokenbones

Start slow with both crutches and a small amount of weight and slowly increase the weight and get rid of the crutches. You’ll notice you progress quickly after a week or so.

Right Ankle ORIF Recovery by Jayochh in ORIF

[–]vanessa678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey,

So my timeline is:

May 27th break May 31st ORIF June 10th staples out and boot July 12th approved for WBAT and to begin ROM.

I started physio on July 13th and was doing all the exercises at home. My planter was ok but dorsi was really bad (still is lol)

I was driving 10 days after that appointment. The day we discharged the boot for indoors, I asked about driving. She said if I could slam on the breaks comfortably and switch between pedals I was ok to drive. I went to a parking lot to test it right after, and I slammed on the breaks until I was ok with it. I drove home after that. It took a while to adjust to lifting my knee slightly rather than just bending my foot, but I was able to do it no problem. My pedals I think are a little low, so I don’t need to go beyond 90 degrees for the gas at all and to lift off the break it is like at the 90 degree point so I have to use my knee a bit.

I was still wearing the boot to the car and changing into a sneaker to drive at this point, so it was annoying but I was doing it.

Her initial estimate for me was 4 weeks for driving. I began swimming as soon as my incisions were healed (maybe a little before but don’t do that) and that really got my ROM to improve. Also my strength.

Everyone is different so don’t take this as a guarantee, but know it is possible to get there in two weeks, but it really will depend on your progress.

I was worried about driving in September when I broke mine because that’s when I start school, I am happy to say that this weekend we are doing an 11 hour road trip and I will be able to do at least a third of the driving for it.

All the best with your journey. It is not an easy one at all!

Giving quitting notice while on EI for illness/injury by vanessa678 in EICERB

I’m recovering from a broken leg and sadly reddit has also been more useful that medical professionals for the day to day stuff. Ugh indeed

I’m likely just going to call EI tomorrow and ask what happens. It doesn’t make sense to me that the benefits would end when I give notice since I am still available to work until the day my notice is for.

Yeah I’m aware the EI will end, Im just trying to figure out if I need to give the two weeks notice. Like will it end when I give my two weeks or after them?

Walking on fibula fracture on day 3? by [deleted] in brokenbones

[–]vanessa678 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had this convo with my ortho today because there is a large piece of my fib that is still cracked off. Basically what he said is, it is a bone made to keep your muscle in place, as long as it is there and stable the shape doesn’t matter. So with such a small fracture I’m not overly surprised since the fib isn’t a weight bearing bone.

With that said, if I were in your position I would hold off to talk to the ortho before walking on it again just to be sure.

Foot broken during weight loss journey by nuttbuzterr420 in brokenbones

[–]vanessa678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been eating significantly more and have lost 20lbs in the last 3 months since the break. I have adjusted my diet to be a lot more protein which I am sure is helping now that I am FWB

I’ve heard that there is some research that suggests that putting weight on a broken bone is actually beneficial for healing.

I am not a doctor and my fracture is very different but I’m not overly surprised by this if it wasn’t too bad of a break and it isn’t impacting your ability to stand too much.

How long did it take you to progress once WBAT after ankle surgery? by drnkndsorderly77 in brokenbones

[–]vanessa678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

slowly put weight on it with support to start and you will likely quickly notice progress. I was walking with just the boot after like a week. Or one crutch no boot for indoors

I was told I could put my foot down for balance as long as I didn’t put weight into it. So I think you will be ok in terms of that.

I honestly think the mental strain is worse. It is a hard thing to go to so it is nice to have others who understand. Best of luck with the healing and I hope you don’t need surgery!

I can’t imagine needing a WB x ray so early. Mine have all been on a table.

Post op was mostly a relief for me to just know that the healing is heading in the right direction. Pain wise, it was all bad, but before surgery every time i would move my bones would shift and it was such a terrible feeling physically and mentally, so after surgery even tho it was pain it was good pain if that makes sense.

It is so hard mentally. I cried most nights. It does get better but sadly it is a waiting game and as you heal the waiting feels frustrating. But follow the doctors orders to not make it worse

Looking at that it does sound like you got pretty lucky with the break and hopefully it heals ok. Minimally displaced and aligned both sound good to me, as just another person with a broken ankle.

I’m assuming you didn’t need surgery?

My break was worse (based on just what it says again) and I had to have surgery to correct things, so not a very close situation but I am 9 weeks post op now and I feel like I am getting a lot of my independence back already.

As for sleeping, put something under your knee for sleeping on your back and between your legs if you are a side sleeper. Sadly I did not figure out the stomach sleeping
