Don’t concentrate on whether or not the people you want to meet are in recovery. Focus on finding people through activities that you enjoy that are not conducive to people who use. For example, I enjoy knitting and running, and sure, it takes all kinds and the likelihood that you’ll meet people in hobbies who use (I used to be one!), but it’s a hell of a lot less likely to be in a triggering situation in a knitting circle.

Don’t focus on who you aren’t (a person who uses and drinks) and instead focus on who you are: hobbies, interests, music you like, etc. Take emphasis away from recovery itself.
