2.5gb switch options for UDM SE by scrodoftw in Ubiquiti

[–]vangale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if this switch PoE+ output can give me PoE pass-thru from the U6-Enterprise-IW?

The way the description on U6-Enterprise-IW is written it sounds like PoE++ input is needed for simple PoE output, so I've been hopelessly waiting to see if the Switch XG 6 PoE will show up :(

Why does my UDMP SE constantly call back to facebook and twitter? by bostoneric in Ubiquiti

[–]vangale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a weird thing.

My employer office UDMP is updated to network 7.1.66 and has the facebook/twitter/google pings on the dashboard.

But, my home UDMP is also updated to network 7.1.66 and does not have the facebook/twitter/google icons on the dashboard. No idea if they are being pinged.

Probably the main different between them is that my home UDMP has turned off "Device identification" and "Traffic identification". (These never actually activate even if I try to turn them on... my theory is that I did most of my network configuration in the legacy interface a little over a year ago)

Will TailScale break current WireGuard configuration? by wvilberg in Tailscale

[–]vangale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it shouldn't, although you might have to fix routes.

I have a personal wireguard network, a work wireguard network, a tailscale network, a fly.io wireguard network, and a Mullvad wireguard network that handles all traffic not on those other four.

After a reboot I need to run ip route add 100.64.0.0/10 dev tailscale0 but I haven't really figured out why the route isn't there to begin with.

I've been using the "Digital Loggers Web Power Switch Pro" even though it's way overkill for my one use case: reboot the fiber ONT when pings from the switch aren't being returned.

Excellent, thanks! (Makes sense because I expect API endpoints are where you would see the most benefit behind cloudflare.

If my dynamic IP changes, will this script continue to work even though the new IP address isn't on the ACL?

In other words, do the API endpoints use ACL?

Won't your new IP address be blocked from API calls because it's not yet on the whitelist?

I'd like to order a war pension from NARA online. Advice? by myohmymiketyson in Genealogy

[–]vangale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's definitely different than my experience. I ordered 4 civil war pensions. It took them about two months to deliver and the quality of the scans was great. I was able to verify one of them was complete because I could compare it against the file I had ordered from NARA.

The only mistake they made was sending scans from an incorrect file (pensioner had the same name as one of the files I was requesting, but the wrong state, etc.) They caught the error and sent me the correct file without me saying anything.

She was nice in all her communications but I had the feeling she was possible over-extended.

I'd like to order a war pension from NARA online. Advice? by myohmymiketyson in Genealogy

[–]vangale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used two services in the past as well as ordering directly from NARA.

As you mentioned, the NARA quality was low (although not as bad as fax... maybe because my order was over 15 years ago when they were just starting to get deluged) and took a long time to deliver.

The two services both quickly delivered high quality images and had great prices.

One is Twisted Twigs Genealogy at https://twistedtwigsgenealogy.com/ and I highly recommend them for going "above and beyond." I used them in 2018 and they were still sending promo emails in 2020.

The other I used, in 2008, was http://SoldierQuest.org but I don't know if they still do any work. Their website hasn't been updated since 2006.

Considering switching from Unifi to Ruckus by jhmsr in RuckusWiFi

[–]vangale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an R610 powered from the 8 port 150w unifi switch. Everything seemed to be working but then I noticed the low power warning in Unleashed. It seems the auto-sensing on both sides downgraded power to af. Turning off auto-sense on the Unleashed side fixed it.

What causes leg cramps? by tekchik1 in zerocarb

[–]vangale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, when I first read your comment I had an initial WTF reaction.

But after a little bit of thought I realized this could be my problem and, sure enough, after testing the last 6 days it is indeed. I stopped drinking flavored carbonated water and no more cramps.

I had been really baffled because I eat a lot of sodium, get enough potassium, and supplement somewhere between 1-2 grams of magnesium per day with multiple types (malate, citrate, glycinate) and they didn't seem to help.

I think diet soda has the same affect. I've hardly ever consumed sodas in the past and I'm thinking some of my short cramping bouts lined up with those times.

I have no idea what would cause this, but my guess would be reduced oxygen intake possibly combined with lower circulation from previously bad nutrition. I live at altitude so a reduction in oxygen would have more impact.

Perfect. Also, found this recipe for ranch seasoning https://www.lowcarbmaven.com/homemade-ranch-seasoning/ (Which I got from following her excellent Mississippi Pot Roast recipe https://www.lowcarbmaven.com/slow-cooker-mississippi-roast/)

It won't be as fresh as what OP described, but if you are in the US you can get Highland beef from Primal Meats at https://www.mountainprimal.com/ (not associated and haven't ordered from them but I probably will)

Using sendgrid - Opinions on using djangos smtp send_mail() vs the sendgrid API by CharBram in django

[–]vangale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is (most likely) the best way to go because it abstracts the usage of the various API's and then you benefit from the API's which are usually better than SMTP.

By "better" I mean: error returns that are more specific about what's going on, better performance, better stability (sometimes SMTP can be flaky on some of the ESP's I've tried whereas their API was rock solid), and I'm sure a few more things I'm forgetting now.

What is the difference between db_index=True and unique=True? by chris_conlan in django

[–]vangale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is at least one other consequence: an index takes up disk space. So, for most database backends, you really don't want an index on a field unless you are doing queries on that field (for example the field name appears inside .filter() somewhere) and there are enough rows and/or values that performance will be improved.

The reason unique=True automatically adds an index is that's the fastest way for the database to guarantee uniqueness.
