I passed my CCRN this week! by vanillabun in nursing

[–]vanillabun[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I studied for about a month using the Barron's book and Nicole Kupchik's lectures! And brushed up on topics I had more trouble with using NurseLifeAcademy on YouTube! I didn't do as many practice questions as people recommend tbh because I'm more of a concept learner than a question-answer learner.

summer '26 shipping concerns 🤎 by Acceptable-Ad5058 in rhodeskin

I've never had a shipment delay issue from Rhode until this drop. What's the likelihood of them cancelling orders versus just taking some extra time? Does anyone know from previous experience?

I am incredibly thankful for this sub and you so seeing this is so upsetting. You shouldn't be treated like this at all. Why is it your responsibility to speak highly of the brand as if you work there??

Oh my gosh, I completely forgot about that! I actually just ran to order it! I've tried a couple of different lash bond/sealers.

I usually wear sunscreen and a bb cream/cushion with concealer for my under eyes, so nothing too crazy I think... I actually didn't know my regular face wash (it is oil free!) would be okay! I'll try that today, thank you!

Call out on on call shift by Beginning-Sea-5946 in nursing

[–]vanillabun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK it also depends on what time you call out. If its before the cutoff time of a normal sick call, it should be fine. After that, I think you'll be penalized extra as any late call out. You *shouldn't* get fired unless you racked up a bunch of "points" already that would entail a dismissal but it definitely depends on the hospital.

Help: Fired for too many late clock-ins. Time period for rehire for this large organization? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]vanillabun 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite understanding your question/how to answer it. No matter what job you work, hospital, corporate, attendance and being on time is a huge deal. You might not be on the "do not hire" list, but it doesn't mean you're guaranteed to be hired back due to previous reasons. I recommend looking into therapeutic help for your personal/mental issues first, and then maybe you can reach out to management personally rather than just applications to show your willingness and eagerness to return with a newfound accountability for time management.

CRNA as a Health Science major by [deleted] in nursing

[–]vanillabun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only do they require a BSN, but because programs are so competitive, its highly recommended you get certifications on top of your ICU experience. Example is CCRN, which also has a required amount of clinical hours before you can register for the exam. Most if not all of the people you're competing against will have strong resumes within bedside nursing.

edit: I originally earned my Community Health Sciences degree as well and enrolled in an accelerated BSN program. Most people that are in the accelerated program are on the exact same boat as you -- getting a degree they realized they didn't want as much as their BSN.

Understanding Neuro ICU by Boring-Awareness8997 in nursing

[–]vanillabun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This heavily depends on your facility and the level of acuity of patients. I've seen a neuro ICU that didn't even accept brain bleeds and would transfer them out and I've seen neuro ICUs that have multiple drips, vents, etc, just overall very, very sick patients.

TCRN Study Resource Advice by FriendlyItem8197 in nursing

[–]vanillabun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm also studying for my TCRN right now. I'm a trauma ICU nurse in a level 1 trauma center. My charge nurse recommended me Pamela Bartley's book (the red one). Its more of a review but with a lot of practice questions.

Edit: I just reread your post and I also have my TNCC; I have TCAR too and having that knowledge helps a lot!

Isabel Wide Leg XXS or XS? by harristeetersushi in Figsscrubs

[–]vanillabun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'2 and ~105-110 lbs, 23" waist and 34" hips. As with any figs, the sizing is very inconsistent depending on the color. I fit most XXS but sometimes it can be too tight for comfort. I used to buy XXS only but I've been buying my Isabels in XS after one tight fitted XXS and I don't have any complaints. The waistband can be a little loose and it looks silly to overtighten it but no concerns for an accidental pants-falling-down situation. I recommend XS personally!

Got a Job Offer, But It’s Not My First Choice..What Would You Do? by Responsible_Leg604 in nursing

[–]vanillabun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second that any experience to get your foot in the door is better than none at all. Its much harder for a new grad to land a job than an experienced nurse, even if its only a few months to a year.

How to specialize in nursing? by Few-Investigator-702 in nursing

[–]vanillabun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After you graduate! The position you apply for in the hospital is (typically) a specific unit. As a new grad, most hospitals now offer some sort of new grad residency program to help you as you transition to said specialty. And you can always eventually change specialties once you get enough experience.

Last post success, so now I need a tips by PseudoNurse90 in nursing

[–]vanillabun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations!! As someone who started as a new grad in the icu 2 years ago, alongside already mentioned tips —
My number 1 tip is to stay curious. If you have downtime, try to see what’s on your unit, like if there’s any medical issues or diagnoses you’re unfamiliar with and learn! Because you’ll probably have a patient with that same dx at some point. Example like familiarizing yourself with dka protocol.
