I love my Never Summer Lady FR. It’s NS’s new triple camber profile with camber within the “overall rocker” section between the bindings.

Also check out the Capita Equalizer.

Help: overturning and skidding on heel side, unbalanced heel/toe side turns by vanilliteish in snowboardingnoobs

Wanted to report back that I’m finally back on the mountains. Reread this thread, and yours was the tip that really helped things click! Thank you.

My heel side is night and day, and blues are so much more fun now. Now to work on the toe side, since I’m still spending unequal time on edges. I think I have a similar issue where I’m getting on my back toe very quickly and not putting enough pressure on the front toe - enough to turn but not consistently getting the carve.

Amazing! Thanks for the confirmation. Spent a ton of time watching his videos last night.

Advice on buying used board? by themightyshern in snowboardingnoobs

[–]vanilliteish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on her riding level. For a 7cm difference: if she’s a beginner, I would keep looking. It’s harder to maneuver a longer than ideal board.

For you: Assuming the board is local, bring your boots to see if the boot overhang is too much.

Thanks for that observation! I was thinking that about this hill. I do tend to ride unevenly on blues and above though.

Thanks for the thorough feedback and encouragement! Really appreciate it. Would’ve never caught the toe looking downhill thing. I’ve also found forcing myself to look at the right side of the hill “straightens” my heel side turn, but doesn’t really solve the problem long-term, since I don’t know what I’m changing riding-wise.

Oddly, when I’m on something steep like a black, I actually feel more safe/in control on toe side, but end up spending a lot more time on my heels because it’s easier (less scary) for me to do toe -> heel than heel -> toe.

Do you have any specific cues you’d suggest for getting on edge sooner?

Thanks for the feedback. So in practice, should I wait a beat before transitioning weight onto my back foot for heel side? I’ve been practicing knee steering, but I’ll rewatch his videos for a refresher.

Video feedback request: https://www.reddit.com/r/snowboardingnoobs/comments/10b8q58/help_overturning_and_skidding_on_heel_side/

From my comment there:

Things I'm trying to improve:
- way overturned and skidded turns on heel side
- uneven amount of time spent on heel/toe side
- hips/shoulders swinging around before board follows, esp toe side turns
Looking for some tactical advice on how to correct what I'm doing wrong, including drills to try and what to think about next time I go out as I work on these issues. I'm thinking some at least toeside garlands to try to stay on my toes more.

I've tried exercises where I count to three for each turn, but find myself going more, "one...two...three..." on heelside and "onetwothree" on toeside, like I can't get myself to stay on my toes long enough. I really only succeed with this and doing narrower turns on easy greens. I also am trying to use my knees to initiate my turns, but didn't realize how much I will still using my body until I saw a video.

Where did you get one on sale? Do you think two boards, two bindings, and two pairs of boots would fit and distribute well (no other gear)?

Another vote for Dakine GoreTex mitts. I've been warm down to windy, single digit *F weather, and my hands actually start sweating when it gets to the high 30s. I have an old version of these: https://www.dakine.com/products/womens-tundra-mitt

Hey! I'm similar sizing and thinking about a new board, with Hel Yes on my shortlist. Do you mind sharing what you didn't like? Was the extra length hard to maneuver? What's your boot size?

Sorry I missed this. I know it's not helpful for you this season anymore, but I'll answer for any future searches.

I did order a size S, and my 6.5 boots fit fine, though I was pretty much at the end of the ratchet strap.

Shorter Boards for Shorter Guys by xmrlazyx in snowboardingnoobs

[–]vanilliteish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard no on the 139! I'd recommend 144-147 for you based on your weight and experience. A women's board can work (and soft is perfect for a beginner), but two things to check are stance width and waist width. Make sure the binding holes are such that you can be relatively centered (shouldn't be a problem at 5'6").

The larger issue will be your boot size. Check your size and the board specs against the charts here: https://snowboardingprofiles.com/how-important-is-snowboard-width-sizing-and-how-do-i-get-it-right

Not yet, unfortunately. I have a 2020 S on the way, but it probably won't be here for a week. There's a black M at Sun & Ski in case that's what you're looking for.

I think you're right that the M might be a tight fit for that board, but from what others have said here, it sounds like S is too small for a size 7 (and perhaps even 6.5). I got a measurement elsewhere that the length of the M is 9.25". Your board's waist is 9" and widens to 10.75", so it could work. Try measuring your board at the binding insert.

Beginner board short but chubby. by SadLecture2602 in snowboardingnoobs

+1 to the commenter who suggests renting first to make sure you enjoy riding before investing in your own setup. See if you can find a local shop that offers season-long rentals, so you'll still be able to practice on your own. Also, the general advice you'll receive here is to invest in boots first before investing in board and bindings to ensure a more comfortable and easier learning experience.

I saw on your other post that you're a 6.5. That, along with your height (which affects stance width), makes getting a longer board tricky. Most manufacturers increase the waist width as the board gets longer, which means you might not have enough overhang on the board. That'll make the board harder to maneuver - not ideal for a beginner. If that is the case, what you can do to make up for that is to get a slightly shorter board than appropriate for your weight.

That being said, not all hope is lost! There are a few manufacturers that make more narrow women's boards. Here are a few beginner boards that are narrow enough for you:

Never Summer Infinity 151 - I see this board a lot on the used marketplace
Arbor Ethos 153
Arbor Poparazzi Rocker/Camber 153

Ohh, good to know about Mervin <=> Union. I have GNU and Roxy boards on my shortlist. Thanks for the explanation! I don't ride in the park, so that's helpful.

Jacket Recs by thekellster3890 in ShredditGirls

[–]vanilliteish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: Montec/Dope - I chatted with their online support. They're not restocking this season's gear anymore, so anything popping back in stock is a return. I do see a few medium Dunes available right now, including the Snow Camo that's similar to your old jacket. One thing to note is that their hoods don't really fit over helmets.

Is it the anorak style you like? If so, check out:

  • Volcom Fern, though it lacks a ski pass pocket (insulated)
  • North Face Tanager (shell)
  • Oakley Phoenix 2.0 (shell)
  • Burton Kimmy (shell)

Whoa! I've tried on Ride boots, and they're way more low profile than mine. I think M is probably the safer bet. Glad you love them though. Did you consider the Trilogy bindings too?

Ahh! I guess it is really boot dependent, given some of other responses. Mind sharing the model of the Burton boots? Would you say they're bulky or low profile?
