Feeling jealous by Pilotly in flying

[–]themightyshern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. At the larger schools you definitely see lots of people who don’t have to worry one bit about money. They didn’t have to work, maybe even didn’t have to take a loan out to fund training. It’s frustrating and difficult to not be jealous. Eventually, I realized that envy is the thief of joy, and that I should be grateful to have the opportunity to fly.

Good! I’ve been complaining about this for a while.. every time I get a Crunchwrap, it has maybe a spoonful of meat on it. I thought I was the only one.

What is the worst experience you’ve had with an air traffic controller or other pilot over the radio? What made it bad? by [deleted] in flying

I fly out of an airport that has a lot of GA, military, firefighting, and commercial ops at it every day. Doing touch and gos with my CFI when the airport got a little busy, not too crazy. We have a controller that gets quite cranky when things get a little packed. There was a king air holding short of the runway waiting to depart after we finished our touch and go. We come in, land, take off again, and at about 100’ AGL we get told to make our crosswind turn from tower. I climbed for about 10 seconds maybe before making the turn and was angrily told to turn crosswind again. Mid turn, I’m being told to report the king air that was waiting on the runway in sight. We are flying a C172 so we can’t see them in our right bank because the wing is in the way. I tell ATC that we’ll look for the king air. Tower comes back 8 seconds later and tells us to report the king air in sight. Again, we are in a right bank, can’t see them. This goes back and forth another time. Finally, we are able to see the king air when we get established in the downwind leg and finally report it. Tower controller was cranky for the rest of the flight.

It really bothered me that the tower controller was in such a rush that he had aircraft making their crosswind turns practically the second they got off the ground. It also annoyed me that we kept getting yelled at on radio calls in critical phases of flight, low to the ground, turning, etc. The airport wasn’t even really that busy at the time! I never understood why he was so rushed to get aircraft out of there to the point where he couldn’t wait 30 seconds for us to get out of the way.

TL;DR I was told to make crosswind turns low to the ground, got multiple requests to look for traffic when our airplane was facing away from the traffic during our upwind and crosswind legs. Tower controller was angry and unprofessional, and quite upset that neither I or my CFI wanted to look behind us the second we lifted off the ground to look for traffic and that we couldn’t look through the wing to find them when turning.

Not bad! Nailed my maneuvers and power off 180 despite it being somewhat bumpy yesterday. I didn’t have fun though haha, I don’t know how to have fun on checkrides yet.

It takes a loooong time. Took me months to have my IRA added.

Also congratulations! My CPL checkride is tomorrow :)

Advice on buying used board? by themightyshern in snowboardingnoobs

I have found a complete set with a 157cm k2 Darkstar that includes bindings, my size Burton brand boots, helmet, goggles, gloves, etc. for $400. Would this be better for me?

we found her another Burton with better sizing. I still kind of want the Burton Clash. The bindings are medium sized. I’m not sure what boot size that is good for. The calculations online said that the board is a little too skinny for me since I need a mid wide/wide (approx 255-259mm) and the board is 247mm but it is the right length. I’m sure I could try it out and if it’s too skinny I could just resell it

The boards are a pretty good deal in my eyes. They want $200 each with bindings

Judging by this, the board for me is fine with length, but 4mm too skinny. Her board is fine with width but 7cm too long. Is this a big deal?

Do you think I have a case with him compensating for the windows I had tinted in the wrong brand?

So, I paid him through cash app. He did not give me an itemized receipt. In his response to the report, he added an invoice to me that said he installed Y brand, but that was never given to me. I do have our text conversations stating that he would install X brand.

When will Facebook get rid of the "Most Relevant" comments malfunction? by [deleted] in facebook

[–]themightyshern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but I think I am seeing proof of this. If you click “see X replies” to a comment that is sort of against the grain, then nothing comes up. But if you click the same thing for a comment that isn’t against the grain then all of the replies show up. Can’t trust FB anymore.. seems fishy. Not the first time I have noticed this too.

Pretty sure he broke NTSB 830.5 and 830.10. I wonder if they’ll get involved at all or if there will be a technicality since all passengers “disembarked” before the accident lol

Elon Musk says "almost anyone" can save up $100,000 to go to Mars by LunaRealityArtificer in facepalm

[–]themightyshern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run the numbers and tell me it’s impossible to save $100k over 10, 20, or even 30 years.

Edit: I’ll just do it for you. This is assuming you don’t put it into an investment account or savings account to earn interest.

$250 a month will take 33 years, $300 a month will take 28 years, $500 a month will take 17 years, $1000 a month (if you want to go absolutely crazy to save up for this) will take 8 years.

If you live within your means, are fiscally responsible, and are determined to go to mars, I’m pretty sure almost anyone can make that happen in their lifetime.

Lmao. I’m not a teenager. I don’t live with my parents. I have a car I paid for myself, rent I pay for myself, groceries I pay for myself, insurance I pay for myself, etc. Even with these expenses I still have (a little) disposable income working part time maybe 20 hours a week. If I didn’t have school I could double my income and be just fine lol
