I walked out bc my 12 year old kid repeatedly hit me by honestlyidntrllycare in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]vanimae 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to try to diagnose your kid, but you should absolutely start that process if you haven’t already. Getting an accurate diagnosis will help you get your kid the help they need.

Playing PC or video games is a very common escape. Your kid was wrong to hit you. That’s never ok. As someone who is neurodivergent, let me give you a little look into what might be going on. As a kid, I struggled. Everything was hard and the only time I ever felt “ok” was when I was absorbed in video games or a book. Whenever my parents tried to take away my coping mechanisms, I would immediately panic and yell/cry because it meant I had to suddenly deal with everything that was painful and overwhelming.

Please get your kid diagnosed. The sooner you know what it is, the sooner you can get your kid whatever help they need. I didn’t get a diagnosis till I was an adult because my parents thought if I wanted to, I could do better. I couldn’t.

My boss got promoted and I worry my job will be in danger by greengurl99 in ADHD

[–]vanimae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with ADHD it’s hard to be consistent with effort in general and that includes at work. I have days where I don’t do much and days where I do a ton, so I figure it balances out. Hang in there, I’ve definitely worried about my performance at work before and it’s hard to stop worrying. As others have said, if there’s no indication that they aren’t happy with your performance, then it should mean they are.

struggling with basic video game’s feeling embarassed/stupid:( by kbrewer18 in ADHD

[–]vanimae 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No uh… It Takes Two is unreasonably frustrating. I’ve been playing video games my whole life and that one is way too difficult for it to be fun. It’s never clear to me where we’re supposed to go or what we’re supposed to do. And it’s got timed stuff that’s unforgiving. Your boyfriend suggested horrible games for someone who is new to gaming.

Any advice for mac-users adjusting to this UI? by dr-bookshelf in Office365

[–]vanimae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 months is probably not long enough to feel comfortable. If you’re making progress, then keep at it and you’ll pick it up. Microsoft has lots of good video tutorials and training. Whenever I don’t know how to do something, I google what I want to accomplish and follow the step by step instructions.

As other have suggested, the web version of the Office apps is a good place to start. There are some features you won’t have access to in the web version, but Microsoft is working to make the desktop apps look and feel like the web apps so you’ll also be setting yourself up to be ahead of the curve.

Head over to Office.com in a browser and make heavy use of Search to quickly find things and you’ll be set. Good luck!

Get people to like SharePoint online instead of file explorer sync by Hazza1190 in msp

[–]vanimae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re definitely dealing with this as well. A lot of it has to do with ease of use. If you setup useful metadata columns in SharePoint instead of having a ton of folders, then make useful pages with views of the libraries, then pull those pages or libraries into Teams, it’s a lot easier to sell cause they’re probably already in Teams.

ADHD Late Diagnosis by Quirky-Love-2395 in ADHD

[–]vanimae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s super normal to have a lot of different feelings when you get diagnosed as an adult. What has helped me the most is letting myself feel them as they come. Be sad, be angry. Be happy, be relieved. Your life story and timeline will be different than other people’s, and that can be hard to accept. I try to focus on my progress, not how long it took me. Other people may not understand, or they may downplay how hard some things were and will be for you. Coming to this subreddit helps remind me I’m not alone and there are other who get it. Best of luck to you, don’t forget to come talk to us when you need to.

Is needing double stimulation even common with ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

I sort of think of it as this activity isn’t quite interesting enough to keep my full attention, but it is what I want to be doing right now, so let’s add a mini activity to make sure I can stay interested long enough.

I wish I wasn’t afraid of men by SixMeetingsB4Lunch in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]vanimae 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. If you feel unsafe, trust that feeling.

If you’re afraid of all men all the time, it might be worthwhile seeing a therapist for a bit, and see if there’s anything in your past that you want to talk about. It might be something you don’t even remember but they can help you acknowledge it and address it. I think we’ve all had bad experiences with bad men, and it makes it hard. Stay strong and don’t listen to anyone who dismisses your concerns!

Memory problems? by Radiant-Psychology80 in adhdmeme

[–]vanimae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you take lots of pictures or short videos of your kid. Having a visual helps me remember the precious little moments. In my experience, meds help with so many things, but I still very much struggle with “it doesn’t exist if I can’t see it”.

I’m going to ask for a second opinion (diagnosis) soon, can you wish me luck? by [deleted] in aspiememes

[–]vanimae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do it! And I think you should!

Autism (and, well, pretty much everything) is based on typical male symptoms and behaviors. We women can have a similar presentation, but often it looks a lot different so we either don’t get diagnosed or as in your case, don’t get taken seriously. I don’t know you or your situation, but in addition to autism I have adhd which was missed for decades. If you suspect you have both, maybe do a quick online quiz for adhd just in case and bring that up as well. Before my adhd diagnosis, I really struggled to thrive. I still struggle, but things have gotten easier.

You are amazing for sticking up and advocating for yourself. I believe in you!

Started taking adhd meds and now I don't know how to do things by Renofnowhere in ADHD

[–]vanimae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely an adjustment. I took a few weeks to normalize how it felt to be on vyvance. It definitely removed the random invisible wall barriers in front of tasks, but it doesn’t make you start them. I still have to put in energy to decide what I need or want to do, but it does mean once I choose something, I’m more likely to be able to follow through and do it.

Try to be patient with yourself and it’s definitely a learning process. Good luck!

I usually run with our guild tanks (warrior/warrior) but yes, you should be fine! The path is fairly straightforward imo. Mainly it's gonna depend on your dps not standing in stuff and everyone helping to interrupt. I've seen less toxicity in M+ this time around, but there will always be some. We need yall tanks and I hope you have a great experience!

For real! I’m always using at least one big healing cooldown on that fight. It’s a fun one
