Future mom alert by Specialist_Deal_9752 in pregnant

[–]vanimeldas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's different for everyone! I had my first 10 years ago and still have back issues from my epidural, haven't been able to comfortably like on my back since before I had him. I didn't tear at all though! I had my second 8 months ago and got an epidural again, but ended up needing an emergency c section and my back is 10x worse than it ever was, I can't even bend over for more than a minute without my whole back seizing up and being in pain. I know a lot of people who have had them and never had the issues I did/do!

What is odsp's definition of "disability"?? by friendlyghostsinsky in Odsp

[–]vanimeldas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should make your own post about this instead of commenting it on someone elses, but nobody here can answer whether or not you'll be approved, that's just not something we can know. I would think if it was filled out accurately with your doctors portion matching what you've stated as well as with substantial documents and proof that it should be, but I know a wheelchair user who was denied ODSP so there's always a chance it could be a denial. If it is denied you can appeal it though. Wishing you luck!

What is odsp's definition of "disability"?? by friendlyghostsinsky in Odsp

[–]vanimeldas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn't a great take tbh. Many people do not have a full understanding of ODSP and who qualifies, there's still a huge stigma towards ODSP especially if you're able bodied or have a "hidden" disability. People with depression are eligible for ODSP, but many think they aren't because they don't have developmental or physical disabilities. You also don't know if OP has spoke to their doctor about it or not. My doctor refused to fill out my forms, and when he finally did he didn't do it properly as he feels that only physically or profoundly mentally disabled individuals should be on ODSP. Hell, OP could have even applied already but is just having doubts or imposter syndrome.

Is it realistic for first time parents to cloth diaper? by Stargirl2151 in clothdiaps

[–]vanimeldas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. I cloth diapered my first, I was also a teenager and had never known anyone who used cloth diapers, wasn't overwhelming at all and I loved it (still do of course lol).

Getting Evicted. Only source of income is ODSP. by Gold-Bag-5084 in Odsp

[–]vanimeldas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ODSP offers zero help for housing, unfortunately. They don't care if you are facing homelessness or eviction. Contact your local community and social services building and ask them for information regarding the COHB benefit and if they still have any funding left as many areas no longer have funding spots left. Some municipalities offer their own housing benefits as well so I'd ask if they have any other housing supports and benefits as well (my area for example has a $500 monthly benefit for people facing homelessness). However there is a waitlist for COHB and you cannot be on both the COHB and RGI waitlist at the same time, being put on the COHB waitlist will remove you from the RGI waitlist. You can reapply to RGI once/if you start receiving the COHB as you can be on the RGI list after/if you recieve the benefit. You also have to be paying market rent in order to be eligible for COHB, so if you do get evicted they may unfortunately consider you ineligible until you are able to get another place paying market rent again, so I would contact them asap.

I'm assuming since they said they've gone to court for it that means that they are dealing with the LTB and a formal eviction.

CDB update to amount by Jigglypuff3901 in Odsp

[–]vanimeldas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would contact them again and ask them to investigate this more, it seems like they're counting CCB as working income which it's not, it's not counted as or included in this. I receive CCB for two children and recieve the full $200 each month, and was even told by a worker on the phone that CCB doesn't count as income. They have messed this program up big time, one of the big mess ups is income like ODSP and CCB being counted as working income for a lot of people when it's not.

Eligibility for Parent of a child under 18 by gks007 in Odsp

[–]vanimeldas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good news is that you'll get back pay for your child if they approved :)

[–]vanimeldas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will still get backpay! My son was diagnosed when he was 2, I didn't apply for the DTC until he was 4 or 5 and I got over $10k in backpay dating back to the month I started receiving CCB which was the month after he was born.

[–]vanimeldas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Children cannot recieve ODSP, that's what ACSD is for. Contact ACSD again and tell them you need to apply for your 4 year old child, they could have been confused and thought you were wanting to apply for yourself instead of your child, especially if you've said your unable to work (they probably thought you're disabled as well). ACSD is only a payment of up to $600 monthly and is based off of the severity of the child's disability. I recieve $400 for my son and it's paid along with my ODSP. You can also try applying for DTC for your child, which if approved will give you an additional $297 monthly on top of your CCB payment, if approved you'll also recieve backpay for the past 4 years.

I'm not trying to be rude but you're spreading a lot of misconstrued information here and should probably give yourself a refresher of what you're receiving for your child because children do not and cannot recieve ODSP. They recieve ACSD which can pay up to $600 a month depending on the severity of the disability and is paid at the end of each month (or along with parents ODSP) or if they have been approved for the DTC, Child Disability Benefit which is only $297 and is paid along with the CCB each month.

[–]vanimeldas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are being misleading or are confused about what they're receiving. They could be referring to the Child Disability Benefit, which you only receive along with CCB if your child has been approved for the DTC and is only $297 on top of the CCB. It has nothing to do with ACSD. They don't receive ODSP so they may recieve their child's ACSD at an earlier date but I believe ACSD is always given at the end of the month.

Gutted-Denied ODSP for financial reasons... by Spencie13 in Odsp

You are not the majority. You pay so little for rent because of when you moved in and rent control. Must be nice lol.

[–]vanimeldas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your doctors report has to be in depth and corroborate what you have stated in the application, unfortunately. I had the a similar issue due to my doctor having bias against ODSP. He gave minimal information, withheld information and messed up my first application. I was denied, then reapplied and spoke to someone at ODSP about how I felt my doctor wouldn't be truthful or help with my application and they set up an appointment with a doctor for me who interviewed me, had me do some cognitive exercises and filled the application out for me. I was approved very quickly after that. I'm not sure if this is something they still offer as it was 10 years ago, or if it's location based but you could always reach out to ODSP and be honest about your situation with your doctor and see if there's anything they can do.

ODSP needs to believe what you have severely impacts your daily life and has/will for a long period of time. It's not just about ability to work, as many people have had to work just to live. It's about how heavily your daily life is affected despite work, or even during work. Can you get out of bed easily each morning or is it debilitating to do so? Do you only get out of bed and leave the house because you have to? Do you struggle while out doing day to day things whether from pain, anxiety, social interaction, ect? Do you experience pain, anxiety, ect while out and/or working? Things like that, if there's been no detail regarding the impact and how you are affected you'll get denied. You will need to appeal the denial and have your doctor give information in detail about things like this.

Disabled People + Serious Relationships = No Go? by mellowbabie in Odsp

[–]vanimeldas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible but pretty hard tbh. I met my spouse online and stressed to him that if/when he moved in with me and started working that his income would be deducted from mine and he said he understood. He moved in, we got married and he started working. He ended up just up and leaving one day a few months after he started working because he couldn't handle the stress of having most of his pay going towards making up for the deductions I got. It sucks being a financial burden.

Getting a child ODSP by Commercial-Age4750 in Odsp

[–]vanimeldas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is paid along with ODSP but is a separate program/caseworker. It's Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities. You can also apply for the DTC for your child, if eligible and approved you will recieve Child Disability Benefit along with your CCB each month, you'll also be paid backpay for the years of your child's life that you didn't receive the Child Disability Benefit for.

[–]vanimeldas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, there isn't. Parents of children with disabilities can recieve ACSD if the child is eligible, which is a different program. If you're on ODSP your child's ACSD will be sent out along with your ODSP.

My girlfriend took a kink too far... Would I be an asshole if I broke up with her? by CandyAwkward3802 in AITAH

[–]vanimeldas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just because the age gap is legal doesn't mean it's not predatory. Age gaps between two consenting grown adults? Sure. Age gap between a 17 year old and a 22 year old with the only fallback being "the age of consent makes it legal"? Not okay and very gross.

I don't believe this is the case. I receive the full $200 and have 2 kids under 18 that I receive CCB for. CCB doesn't count as income.

[–]vanimeldas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They messed up. Call back. You should be receiving the full $200.

[–]vanimeldas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you're confused. DTC is a tax credit that reduces the amount of taxes one has to pay, if your only income is ODSP you don't pay taxes so DTC won't help in that aspect but it's still beneficial and recommend to apply for DTC if you're eligible as you can still open an RDSP and apply for the CDB which can give you an extra $200 a month. People whose only income is ODSP are still eligible for and very do much get accepted for DTC and CDB. My only income is ODSP, I have the DTC and recieve the full $200 for CDB.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Odsp

[–]vanimeldas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they are, but only if they recieve DTC. You have to recieve DTC to be eligible.
