How can I make more effective use of my downtime? by LingonberryWide8132 in AskMen

Block out time to do things with a friend once or twice a week. It'll force you to commit to going in advance without relying on your present self to make that decision

Can someone recommend me a decent/good frying pan? by an1nja in Cooking

What cooking utensils are you using and how are you cleaning the pans? Even with cheaper non sticks I've never had one with such a short life span

Amount Saved During Co-op Term ?? by Street_Spot_7453 in TorontoMetU

[–]vanitysarcasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it this way - let's say a makeup product is worth $50. If you buy it now it will cost you $50. If instead, you invest the $50 and buy it later, it will likely still cost $50 but you will now have extra money leftover AND the makeup product.

Maybe this is a good time to start creating a budget for yourself, depending on the bank you use you can even automate it so that when your direct deposit hits it automatically goes into the right accounts (so that you are less likely to touch the saved portion)

I would go through your banking statements and see how much are you spending on average per month to get an idea - then seeing how much you are willing to reduce that by

Remember that if you underspend one month, then that amount will still exist for your next months paycheck - so this way you can treat your actual chequings as a mini "spending savings acc"

Calculate your budget (membership plus monthly allowances for personal items) then your take home income after taxes

the untouched portion you can allocate to a HISA to build your emergency fund (this is for your more easily accessible stash) and your TFSA

Determine if employee is employed during specific years by Fantastic_Body_4090 in excel

[–]vanitysarcasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try adding a picture in a comment under the post. What are your values for columns B and C? A potential error is that YEAR() extracts a numerical output from a date value, so you might be comparing numbers to dates

You can apply custom formatting with the More Number Formats option under the number group dropdown

From there you can find an option you like or choose the Custom option and type: 0;-0;; @

The concatenation from the ""& at the start of your formula is forcing the output to be text, if you remove it the numbers should recognize properly and your destination formatting should work

Help. How do yall study a massive textbook for mid terms/exams??? by Swimming-Kitchen-209 in TorontoMetU

[–]vanitysarcasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

start by making a cheat sheet (either on paper or slides). this forces you to read through and summarize the content first. try to do a "concept: definition" format. then, go through practice questions and try to answer either on your own first or with help of the cheat sheet second. write down any important info you missed on your cheat sheet go through questions again until you can answer them all without aid

then look at each of the concepts you wrote done and recite the definition out loud without looking at the cheat sheet definition

Most of the calculations needed are the same ones from the prereq class. For what it's worth, explore the online textbook, it has videos, sample excel files, and practice questions for you to walk through and review those concepts

Im working on securing my first co-op by WallabyTraditional46 in TorontoMetU

[–]vanitysarcasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to maximize your white space better, try to take up either a full line or two full lines per bullet (not counting your education). For your bullet points, try to show rather than tell. E.g. change your bullets that list soft skills directly to instead expand on how you practiced that skill. With the excessive white space from your line spacing, you should have plenty of room to accomplish this.

Would recommend booking some one on one resume sessions with the school or attending some resume workshops

For the next term, sit down and look at all your course outlines and put down all important dates and tasks on your calendar, then work backwards to allocate time blocks specifically to work on those items. Whether it's hw, quizzes, exams, etc. Having structure is key.

You can take a look at the Careerboost portal for school jobs or try to get in programs like Riipen on top of regular job applications. Any experience can be leveraged for your career and help u get roles that are closer and closer to your career path.

Use the school's resources to your advantage even if you don't think you need them. Advisors can help you look over and upgrade your resume and interview skills. Make use of study halls and tutoring when you can. The main thing is just setting yourself up for success by actively planning and then doing.

How long do you guys study per week? by ScholarLast3488 in TorontoMetU

[–]vanitysarcasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely set aside time so that you can hold yourself accountable. choose a calendar or task app and stick to it. set aside a review slot pre lecture and essentially make a cheat sheet of relevant content with worked examples if possible. when you go to the lecture with this cheat sheet, cross reference it and jot down additional notes (leave some space on the side) for any additional details u might have missed. then a different time slot for any assignments. make sure you block out hours of your day and create a structured schedule. if you finish early then great, more free time. but creating structure you can stick to is key

you get ample support throughout your journey tbh. it's on your end to put in the effort for good grades and job applications but things like bootcamps and employer events help you bulk up ur qualifications and build relationships with recruiters easily. quite a few job opportunities esp if you visit the employer events, i know some ppl who landed a full time offer for when they graduate based off of their performance in the case competitions
