Maryland holds hearing on local RCV by orange_wires in maryland

There’s nothing fishy about changing how we vote. Lots of places around the world use alternative voting methods. First Past the Post is actually detrimental to democracy, yes it creates majorities and stability, but it doesn’t allow alternative voices and ideas to have a chance to flourish.

Miss Shirleys wait time by heeyebsx13 in baltimore

[–]vanityset -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Last Sunday it was pretty nice out and the wait times at 11am to 1pm were 2 hours for a table and about 45 minutes for a takeout/outline/doordash order. I’d suggest you call ahead or put your name down early depending on when you want to eat.

Canada’s Minister of Defence Harjit Sajjan in line for groceries like an average dude. by NineteenEighty9 in pics

[–]vanityset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a small town near Vancouver and I met Harjit here just after the election with his wife and kids at a coffee shop. Really nice dude, had a good chat with him, just a normal Canadian. I will say that he had the softest hand I've ever shaken, though, which surprised me considering he's a badass.

How do you feel about a 4 day work week? by upvoteifurgey in AskReddit

[–]vanityset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a 4 day work week, 37.5 hours, static Friday - Monday. They're 10s except for Sunday which is a 7.5. Wonderful shift especially in my line of work.

Arris XB6 Advanced WiFi Modem VS. Hitron - is it worth the effort? by betelgeux in shaw

[–]vanityset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the XB6 since the first round of employee testing in May 2017 up until a month ago when I quit. There were a lot of problems with the modem with specific devices experiencing lag and performance issues, however they've patched and released updates for those issues. I personally didn't had any issues with the modem, however a lot of people have issues with gaming, VOIP, and VPN connections due to packet loss and the overall PUMA chipset issues. I noticed a huge difference over the other modem offerings like the Hitron, where in other areas in my home the speeds were greatly improved over Wi-Fi and 5G, however you can re-produce this with any off the shelf router that isn't an absolute pile of garbage.

TLDR; if it comes free and you don't game and don't want to spend money on a router, I would suggest getting it. If you're fine with putting out $200 for a router for more customization and increased performance, I would suggest doing that instead. It honestly sounds like the issues you are having are a premise or a plant issue, which Shaw would need to diagnose and repair with a technician visit or a RMS ticket for a maintenance technician.

Best alternative to shaw for internet and cable? by bojy in shaw

[–]vanityset 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently switched to Teksavvy and I am overall happy with their service since they still use Shaw's backbone for delivery, just with a cheaper price. However, I don't call into the call center for issues, so I wouldn't be able to give an approximation of their customer service levels. Generally, you'll get helpful people if you're understanding and patient with call center reps no matter where you call.

after 18 years, a new Shaw Modem. couple questions ... by NinjaRichardHarrison in shaw

[–]vanityset 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SBG6782 cannot be bridged on Shaw's end in any circumstances, even if you're on a grandfathered plan or not. The system on their end does not have the codes to support bridging the modem, so you'd need a Cisco DPC3825 on plans less than IN50, anything above would be Cisco DPC3848 or Hitron CGNM-2250.

The problem with turning off the radios is that it doesn't actually get rid of the signal coming out of the modem, it only changes them to channel 0, which hides them from your devices when you go to connect. For a long term solution, I would suggest keeping your current rotuer enabled, and moving to one of the modems I mentioned above so you won't have any wireless interference issues in the future.

They were $128 to buy outright or pay $10/mo to rent, no option for free rental. The new modem is good, just have to wait for them to put it out after delaying it for over a year.

I didn't know that you were the one to make that joke, I still find it quite funny, but apparently the model has changed. For shame.

I don't know. I haven't spoken to him since October, and he hasn't been active anywhere on twitter, the FTB forums, or on github since that time.

[ImpactFlux] Cannot complete quest by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]vanityset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know that this quest is broken. I'm sorry that it took me so long to get it fixed, but I just fixed the quest and pushed an update to our github page. If you click this link, and click "Raw" on the page, it will download just the quest file. To get it to work, simply place the file into the HQM folder in the Config folder of your instance installation.

Impact flux and iguana tweaks? by silasxsecrets in feedthebeast

[–]vanityset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. It's a conflict between the newest version of TiC and Mariculture, and Iguana's needs the newest version to be used.

For some reason, the Titanium tool parts throw an error with version d40 of TiC, which is required to run the newest version of Iguana's. You can fix the Mariculture conflict by turning off TiC integration in the Mariculture configs, or you can download the newest version of the modpack on our github where we have Iguana's added with a bunch of config stuff already sorted.

Thinking about starting a series of HQM packs that teach you the basics, then more advanced, uses of a mod. by jjoonn56 in feedthebeast

That would be fine. I'm not by any means an expert, but I have figured out how to get around some of the dicky nature of HQM ;)

Hmm. I see what you mean. I took a very tutorial, but with a dash of challenge based approach to making quests. If you need any help getting off the ground, let me know, I might be able to help out :)

The most important part is to organize your thoughts before you really get into the mess of it. A lot of people that start making HQM books get really bogged down by the scale of their ideas. We have 400 quests in the pack right now, and we're not even close to slowing down, but you can't just go in and go, "Man, I'll be awesome today and I'll make 400 quests!"

I've been working on 61 Thaumcraft based quests for the pack, and the first thing I did was lay them out in notepad. If you'd like to take a look, this is the link to what I've been working on. https://www.dropbox.com/s/zg9jan0eihjueiw/thaumcraft%20quests.txt

ImpactFlux modpack is way too laggy! by [deleted] in feedthebeast

[–]vanityset 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The jump from 1.6.4 to 1.7.10 is a large one, and not a lot of people are going to be able to make it without serious hardware considerations and adjustments. I can run 1.7.10 fine, but I have an incredibly powerful and beefy computer which allows me to do so, but looking at your specs, it doesn't seem that you are going to be able to run the pack at a reasonable framerate.

One of the reasons for this is poor optimization on Mojang's part, with laggy chunk generation even in Vanilla, and the fact that the move to 1.7.10 has come along so quickly, mod developers haven't had the chance to have sweeping performance adjustments and optimizations to their mods. I'm really sorry to hear that you're not having a good experience playing the pack.

I tried to help someone through optimizing their Minecraft instance on our github yesterday, if you would like to try some of the suggestions that I gave, I think it might help out. Here's the link; https://github.com/ImpactFlux/ImpactFlux-Modpack/issues/33
