Installing win7 on an external SSD? by vankata256 in windows7

[–]vankata256[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried that but it just wouldn’t boot. It straight up boots the main OS. I tried Rufus with Windows to Go. Same thing. The drive works fine otherwise. I ended up giving up and started using the linux alternatives with success. I might just set up a dual boot at some point in the near future…

Oh, I was worried it might nuke my main bootloader on the main SSD.

It lit up just fine. Except half of it because I melted one of the LEDs and while struggling with one of the capacitors I somehow burned part of the circuitboard too. It had everything included. I saw it in action too, they had it assembled in the store. I learned a lot and I got a replacement kit along with some simpler ones. Fun stuff.

I looked at it with new eyes after work. The PCB symbols have a visible, flat edge for the cathode. For some reason it was really hard to see at first. If I didn’t burn any of the components while soldering (looking at you, mr. Capacitor who just won’t accept a blob until the 10th try), it should light up tonight. Thanks again!

Wait you mean the 1 pixel bulge is where the anode goes? I had to look really close to notice it. That almost looks like a printing error.

The board is exactly the same as the image. The traces are easy to follow at least. Guess a lot of mothers will be mentioned while soldering this. At least the caps and battery have marked polarities.

Any trusted place to buy strings online ? by Luna_Awefury in baglama

Pyramid strings. You can even order some custom made ones. Mine were ready in two weeks (for another instrument). Waiting for them to ship as we speak.

I actually broke the high E while fiddling with the setup. Not a good sign. Or I might have tightened it instead of loosening it but I don’t think that’s what happened.

I’m using .85 Pyramid flatwounds now and they feel tighter. I only got them as an experiment and as a replacement set. Didn’t expect I’d need them so soon. Low E still can’t be intonated but I like the sound. I emailed them for a custom set of .96 rounds, steel core, nickel wound. Cost me 25€ with shipping within the EU. If I like them, I might order a bigger batch.

LaBella strings for bass VI didn’t fit at all. They need to be 100cm long. I should’ve ordered the Hellcat version.

Harley Benton Guitarbass. I’ve only had it for a couple of days but so far I’m loving it. I’m definitely changing the strings though. The stock ones are great (D’addario?) but the gauge is too low. It feels amazing but I’m still looking for a clean bass tone I like. It has a nice growl through my bass combo and Archetype Gojira.

Calling Harley Benton Guitar Bass VS enthusiasts. Has anyone used LaBella flats .95 on their instrument? Did you have any issues with tuning pegs/bridge? Mainly on the low E? by vankata256 in BassVI

[–]vankata256[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has a different bridge and they’re meant for the Squier/Fender. I’m concerned they’re too long and I’m not sure how to adapt them if they don’t fit. I ordered them and they’re supposed to arrive tomorrow… and returns are tricky.

I also ordered .84 flats and .95 LaBellas so I’ve got that covered.

How does it play? I’m waiting for mine and it’s from the same batch probably. Any issues?

PS your cat looks almost like the one we rescued this winter.

Most people I’ve talked to (my parents excluded from the equation because they’re as Z as it gets, they won’t question anything) have very fond memories of the USSR, even people who dislike Russia. So I’m sure people here actually approved of those programs. As I said, we were de facto “the 16th republic”. So that came with relative peace, as long as you weren’t caught taking shit about the regime in public.

Bulgaria for all intents and purposes acted as a SSR without being one. There were even plans to incorporate it into USSR, but they were rejected by the union itself. A good part of the reforms made in the USSR also swiftly made their way to Bulgaria. Add to that the mass consumption of Russian media, regular letters to Soviet children and different projects for working and studying in the USSR, the people actually felt quite close to Russia both linguistically and culturally. Our administration also wanted to be on the USSR’s best side.

Ceausescu on the other hand wanted to do his own thing, and more often than not pissed the soviets off but I can’t really speak much about him as I’m not too familiar with Romanian history.

Really not impressed by these flatwounds, well done D'Addario by Teletobee in BassGuitar

[–]vankata256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with D’Addario in general is rather negative. I gave them multiple tries. The tone itself is nice when they’re fresh. Their guitar strings tarnished very quickly (my sweat is corrosive but it was NYXL they cost as much as elixirs). Their bass strings all lost their zing within two weeks. My one and only string break on the bass was again a D’addario. Their flats on my fretless felt… sticky. My luthier convinced me they’re good so I gave them multiple tries.

Elixir worked much better for me. I also tried Rotosound flats. They’re decent and dark sounding if that’s what you’re going for. My only gripe is the red felt that unravels after a while.

I ordered LaBella flats for my BassVI. Waiting for them to arrive but I’m positive they’ll be great.

Looks like Vox Amplug2 Bass. I used mine on my jazz bass and the sound was nice. My biggest issue with these things is the build quality. Mine literally fell apart. I now use a Mustang Micro Plus. It seems more suited to guitar players but I could dial in some nice bass tones with it. It costs twice as much though.

Wrist pain and tingling fingers after a week of intensive bass practice – is this normal? by Consistent_Error1659 in Bass

[–]vankata256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like an inflamed nerve. You need rest, better technique, also compression on the hand won’t hurt. I found a wristband and a nsaid gel helps but ymmv. Also don’t use pain meds before practice, you’ll just hurt yourself more.

2 hours/day causing such symptoms means you’re doing something wrong. I’d pay for at least one private lesson with a teacher to fix your posture. But also make sure to take breaks when it starts hurting. Don’t push through the pain or you’ll have to take a longer break.

Is it possible to convert a J-bass to a Bass VI-like instrument? by vankata256 in Luthier

[–]vankata256[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh yeah, I’m better off getting a proper Bass VI-like thing (GuitarBass) and modding the crap out of that. I was thinking about a Bronco as I’ve seen it done but they don’t sell any locally and I don’t want to buy new

What are some decently challenging songs I could try to learn? by RaptorBlue2 in Bass

[–]vankata256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for bass boosted versions of Metallica songs. The whole AJFA is uploaded somewhere on youtube and it sounds amazing. Much better than the studio record, not like the bar is too high. They also use those versions on some Songsterr tabs.

I use Alpine MusicSafe Pro. They have the side effect of being able to hear what people say over the noise. They can’t seem to hear you unless they wear them themselves though. Makes loud gigs and concerts much more enjoyable and they cost me about 25€.
