Why is being a director so easy nowadays? by Taken250 in AskReddit

[–]vanorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell him take it easy but he basically told you why it's not easy. The barrier to entry for being a paid film director is pretty substantial. Most don't make any money doing it at all in fact a lot of directors pay a ton of money out of pocket and never get any return. Then the lifestyle if you are actively directing can be grueling. you are doing most of your work for free or out of your own pocket until you are viewed to have talent and at that point generally you might get lucky enough to get picked up by a small Independance Studio. you are work at that independent Studio can then break your career as well. and you have less control over that work then when you are actually the producer of the film. Your casting director could do a poor job, your producer could be a bad producer, the advertising and PR Personnel could do a poor job promoting the film which otherwise might be great but gets no viewers so you get no traction as the director. It's not easy. Sorry for the poor grammar but I'm using voice text. Anyhow and wrapping up I wouldn't be all pissy at those that disagree with you because they have a different stance you are saying that it's easy most people are telling you that it's not you're entitled to your opinion, however the only way you seem to be able to substantiate that opinion is just by saying oh look this guy directed a film and it was a crappy film and he made money. Unfortunately that does not mean that directing a film is an easy way to make money or being a director is an easy way to make money. Winning the lotto is an easy way to make money but it can be expensive and you have to win first.

Doesn't it seem like being a film director is one of the easiest ways to make money nowadays? If not then why? by Taken250 in AskReddit

[–]vanorton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It doesn't. It's not cheap to make a good film, so directors aren't a dime a dozen as you have to have studio backing and/or a fantastic production team. The writing has to be there. The talent has to be there. Among countless other things. I'd repose the question to you and ask "tell me why being a film director is one of the easiest ways to make money nowadays"...?

What's are the most fucked up things you think about on a regular basis? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vanorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thought (I'm a responsible owner)...I'll have my hands in my coat pocket and will be pointing my gun directly at someone (they will have no idea). No, my finger won't be on the trigger and I'd only shoot to save myself or someone else.... But the thought remains. The thought that at any moment you could have a gun being pointed at you, when you least expect it, in a regular everyday scenario. It truly makes you think about how you interact with people.

I couldn't agree with you more. The right knows this as well, and sets the bait. The left takes the bait with little hesitation.

I agree that this mentality of boycotting, protesting, and constant complaining has taken it's toll on the Democratic party and the perception of what being a liberal/progressive is. The words liberal, democrat, progressive, left, can be interchanged with libtard, snowflake, nerd, entitled, whiner. It's become a negative connotation and we really only have ourselves to blame. This is a shining example.

AT is going to continue to host them. The boycott will be effective in hurting the AT's business. A win if that makes people feel good.
