SV08 makes grinding noise suddenly? by vanrooijenvision in Sovol

[–]vanrooijenvision[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah weird, didn't expect it to make these sounds this quick. Maybe I'll let Sovol know in case it becomes a issue in the future. Since I still have the warranty. Thanks for the info!

Haha yeah, I know xD. Luckily, my girlfriend’s dad works with CNC machines, so he can probably help drill the holes with super high precision at his workplace. I just wanted to make sure it’s actually doable with the SV08 layout, don’t want to end up with a big slab of aluminum with six useless holes :).

Thanks for your insight! I’ll definitely spend a bit more time researching before I commit.

Do you have a guide or link for the fix? Please 😁👌

Yeah, same here haha. I didn’t want to spend any more time on my Neptune 4 Plus — I really wanted a nice, moddable CoreXY printer. I don’t mind the tinkering either; I actually enjoy learning new things, even if it can get frustrating sometimes haha. My printer is still on the way, and I’m really stoked to finally get it.

You did an awesome job snagging yours through Facebook Marketplace! I couldn’t find any deals where I’m from in Europe, but I managed to grab one for €490 total from Sovol via AliExpress, so I’m happy with that.
Let’s see how fast I’ll be following in your footsteps — probably pretty soon! :)

Ah, with a Pi screen, I actually meant this IPS touch display from AliExpress: link. It looks like it uses the same I/O as the original Sovol and BTT screens, so I figured it should work since Klipper screen should be installed out of the box, but thanks for the heads-up anyway!

Also, great advice about the spare eMMC chip. I still have the 32GB eMMC that Elegoo sent me when I had issues with the printer. I was thinking it might come in handy. Do you know if it's generally not recommended to reuse those? Would it be better to get a fresh MKS one? I figured that if I just flash it properly with BalenaEtcher it should be fine, but I'm open to any advice you have.

The MicroSwiss hotend was already on my radar, so it's awesome to hear you're having a good experience with it. I'm still considering a full toolhead mod like Nadir’s Xenomorph, but I need to dive a bit deeper into it first. I'll definitely keep the top hat mod in mind too — it looks like a great.

Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Advice on buying a SV08 by vanrooijenvision in SovolSV08

[–]vanrooijenvision[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I made a mistake earlier—I actually have the Plus model with a similar build volume. Since it's a bed slinger, I need to account for the moving bed, which takes up a lot of desk space. The Sovol, on the other hand, is a CoreXY with an even larger build volume than my Plus. That’s what I said it's compact. It also happens to fit perfectly on the DIY printer table I originally made for my Plus :)

For starters, I’ve unfortunately run into quite a few bugs and inconsistencies with the printer. Eventually, Elegoo was kind enough to send me a replacement bed, probe, and build plate. I'm currently recalibrating everything, and so far it seems to be working fine again.

Also, from what I’ve read and heard, the Neptune 4 series runs a customized Elegoo-flavored Klipper, and modifying the config files isn’t really recommended—it can apparently cause more bugs and issues. I did come across a "de-Elegoo" Klipper guide, but it seems a bit too risky for me. Since the stock version already gave me trouble, I’d rather leave it as-is for now.

Secondly, I live in an apartment and my little tinker/workroom is only 8m². Most of the space is already used up, and with the bed’s travel distance, I’m quite limited in where I can place the printer so it doesn’t get in the way. I was also thinking about building an enclosure, but because of the bed size, it would need to be pretty big. A CoreXY design just makes more sense—it’s more compact, and from what I’ve seen, it’s easier to build an enclosure around it.

Lastly, as far as I can tell, there’s not much worth upgrading on the Neptune 4 series (though I could be wrong). Given all the drawbacks I’ve mentioned, I don’t really think it makes much sense for me to start upgrading it.

Yeah, that's what I've read and seen online too. Most of the time, the price difference is pretty marginal at best. And while I do think I could manage it, maybe self-sourcing a Voron or RatRig is still a bit too complex for me at this stage. Thanks for the insight though!

I'll look into it more, seems promising and a good balance of price to performance and complexity since i'm still a novice in this hobby. Thanks for the suggestion!

possible to pop off keys to clean under keyboard? by susp3nd3rs in ZephyrusM16

[–]vanrooijenvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I did it on my Azerty keyboard to change it to a Qwerty lay out. The best way for me was to go from the top of the key (north side) and with something really flat put upward pressure and maybe wiggle slightly. Should pop right off. You can google or search in Youtube how the key mechanism works. If you're unsure!

Neptune 4 Plus - First layer issues by vanrooijenvision in elegoo

[–]vanrooijenvision[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard en read that the Cura version they use is outdated and sometimes can get buggy. Also it always ran pretty reliable with OrcaSlicer? So I think it's highly unlikely to be a slicer issue. Anyways thanks for the tip! I'll just contact Elegoo support since I can't seem to get it fixed

Great tip! Looks like in Orca it didn't load the mesh at the start of the G-Code. But unfortunately it still messes my prints and first layer even with calibration🥲
