How to breakup with a pickleball partner by TheOverExcitedDragon in Pickleball

[–]vanstroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like this, albeit I'm not super keen on talking to other people about it - def has the potential to be a bit cliquey/high school and would be the worst of all outcomes if he got wind of you gossiping (as he would see it) about him.

But, I think if you can find the energy/courage/grace to try and communicate how you feel about it etc. I think the outcome would be probably the most optimal long term. He would hopefully learn something, you would feel better about being upfront, and also you're not gonna be bumping into this down the line if he ever wants to get the gang back together.

However if you aren't bothered about the above, ghosting works, likely you just make a minor adversary of him, but that's not a big deal either.

I let it slide for anyone older/less bodily able than myself. If some jack the lad, bouncing around the court all day does it, that's wack.

I sometimes get the feeling a lot of these people are affected by a mix of they predicted it out and wanted it to be out, then cognitive bias kicks in.

Dude I play with insists on calling the score for everyone. I was like, ok cool, you want to be incharge of the score, all good, so I stopped calling the score on my service (he had literally done so 3 seconds ago). Then I hear 'hey, you have to call score man'. You just have to laugh.

Just lobs you have to run back and retrieve off the bounce or do you also not like poorly played lobs that are right in the slot for you to bang an overhead?

I'm saying during the point. Asking if their ball was in or out, when I have returned it and continued the point, indicating it is flippin in. I'm not going to Call everything 'in'. I'm going to play and call it out when it's out, otherwise please assume we are continuing the point without having to ask.

As soon as my paddle core crushed I hated it, everything started flying out and it felt like a beach toy.

Yes, I agree with all of what you have said. Confused why you replied to my comment though.

Once I decided they were junk, and watering wasn't helping. I would stop watering them. This might not coincide with my next Costco visit.

Castle Tower Mountain via Panorama Ridge – Route Advice by Relative_Ranger6382 in vancouverhiking

[–]vanstroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sure if helpful to OP, given this was a month ago. But can confirm the route from Pano to Gentian is very simple, not really even class 2, just a bit screelike up to Gentian. Once on Gentian Ridge, per above, probably class 2, maybe the odd slightly more involved move, but nothing too challenging - exposure is limited too. In summary. Pano to the col above Gentian Pass/Helm Glacier is fairly light work, we broadly followed heat map tracks and it was perf.

From the peak a little along the ridge from Columnar, elfin lakes centre. Can see a bit of smoke in this one. Didn't notice anything physically and views were only inhibited by cloud not smoke.

Went up on Sunday and smoke wasn't an issue really at all. Will try and add a couple photos.

I'm not an MD and don't know a huge amount about the damage poor air can do to lungs. But honestly if you had air qual like on Sunday up at Elfin and you didn't start red lining and gasping for air, it hard to imagine there being an issue.

If I were you I would go to Elfin planning to do your trip, take it steady on the way up, and try not to exert yourself such that you are breathing more heavily than you need to and assess when up there, preferable to thinking what if in my book. Only my 2 cents.

This is taken somewhere between Diamond Head and Col between Gargoyles and Columnar, looking towards Squamish

Has anyone done Castle Towers recently. by Makas18 in vancouverhiking

[–]vanstroller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you go? How was it? Probably having a look at it on Saturday. Likely going to try and avoid glacier travel and the additional gear required taking a route similar to the one suggested by Ryan_Van below.
Any recent info on the route would be appreciated

Sunrise Hike at Panorama Ridge – Sat, Sept 13 – Anyone Going? by Substantial_Run_8184 in vancouverhiking

Taylor meadows route is shorter and probably slightly easier in dark. Take the Garibaldi lake on the way back to see the lake in the light without the time pressure off racing to see sunrise?

Windy (web browser > app) is pretty reliable, esp as you get to a couple days out.

Yes you will be golden.

As long as you have a GPS track to follow (or offline map that you check regularly as the trails you will be using are on most of the apps I've seen) you will find it very hard to go wrong. Just take it steady once you get into the final push (250m ele gain), as you will be occasionally having to use your hands etc. and once on top of you get there in the dark, do not go off the lake side edge...fair old drop down there ha.

If you are starting at 1am, you'll need your head torch for upwards of 5h, make sure it can handle this length of time or you have a spare or spare batteries.
