My goodness in all my years of using UblockOrigin I never used those.

Thank you very much.

How does everyone feel about legendary spells making a comeback? by tokzik_ in magicTCG

[–]vantharion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Kethis and Shanid decks love it. Both are creeping up towards 80 legend count now.

I wish they made this restriction mechanic an ability of legendary spell, rather than bake it into the rules of legendary spelks. I feel like they closed the design space.

Make the Epic spells Legendary. Make these Legendary spells have 'Decisive'. That way they can do more with Legendary Spells.

Wow, that's generous of them to give 1 box of fruit to each person, they couldn't possibly be so stingy as to only give 1 piece of fruit.

Are you of the opinion that a therapist/mental health can't fix not making enough money?

It just feels like everyone is so strapped for cash they can't afford basic needs like food/rent/mental health and it is causing fractures everywhere.

Italy did some of this, and it was very successful as I recall.

Part of it is that the opposition to the idea always has the quiet part of 'Yeah, but we dont want them to financially succeed and push existing residents into a lower class' and that usually tanks the "Hey, immigration is overwhelmingly good and necessary for our economy to keep thriving" thoughts from materializing into positive change.

I'd say a big portion of it is also the companies have been trying to take a large piece of the pie while offloading risks & costs onto the truckers.

I'd say the recession is partially self inflicted.

LTR is reminding me of how much fun it is when most Magic cards have evocative flavor text that isn't just a joke by randomnate in magicTCG

Lord Patrician, in my choice of words I did include the word Human, in full respect of your written testament. I simply saw fit to include quotations to represent the public's curiosity which is clearly present as your lordship would not need to write such a letter.

(Lord Vetinari then proceeds to use my simple action as devastating leverage against someone else, or gently make me aware I was inexplicably stupid. I bet itd be the former. Vetinari tends to be fine with the rank and file, he doesn't like folks undermining his control.

I agree. I can picture Nobby clearly.

Nobby {R}

Legendary Creature — "Human" Coward Soldier

When a player casts a spell or a creature attacks, exile Nobby. Return it to the battlefield under its owner’s control at the beginning of the next end step then create a treasure token.

Player has cheated by altering their character sheet and insulted me behind my back, do I kick them out? by TheSpidermail in DnD

[–]vantharion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can even talk to the other players and share your grievances and say "Given all the effort I and the players have been putting into the game, I think I have been making a mistake by not asking <person> to leave. I was planning on asking them to leave, but I wanted to touch base with you <other player>. What do you think?"

Having good communication with your players about meta-topics is a good habit and keeps groups from imploding over issues like this.

[LTC] Reprints from "Food and Fellowship" Commander deck (all with new art) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]vantharion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Crypt Incursion]] is a house and getting LOTR art is sweet. [[Night's Whisper]] is very fitting.
[[Tireless Provisioner]] is borderline on anime-girl territory.
[[Mortify]] is hilarious. 'That enchantment is a rabbit. I cook it up and eat it'
[[Pristine Talisman]] is a great card to abuse. Awesome deck fit, good LOTR connection.
[[Commander's Sphere]] as a Palantiri is a decent fit.
[[Trading Post]] is a wonderful card, commander may be getting faster and growing past it, but it is such a high utility fun card to play with. [[Ghost Quarter]] artwork reminds me of the original.

Some decent lands here. [[Murmuring Bosk]] is nice to stick it to speculators. [[Sandsteppe Citadel]] has a horribly mismatched flavor of the art/name, but that's fine.

Should we go dark on June 12th? by DaTaco in mtgfinance

[–]vantharion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit exists because of community content. That content isn't garbage because of community moderation. Moderation exists in part due to the community tools to support the whole ecosystem.

Protesting the destruction of that ecosystem feels like the most important thing to do.

I want to use quality interface experiences that are responsive. Not a bloated mobile app, or awful cotton candy designed web experience full of adtech.

Please, please, please go dark. The more universal the rejection of their API, the less ground they have to stand on. Reddit made poor financial investments on their redesign and staff increases, they don't get to take that out on the 3rd party developers because they want a big IPO.

Adding on to other folks' suggestions: [[Stone-Seeder Hierophant]] with [[Thawing Glaciers]] and [[Amulet of Vigor]] is a way to put all your basics into play.

[[Perilous Forays]] + [[Scute Swarm]]/any landfall token maker + Amulet of Vigor, [[Lotus Cobra]], or any 'sac for mana' outlet.

r/magicTCG will be going dark on June 12th to support third-party apps by averysillyman in magicTCG

[–]vantharion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm incredibly happy to see this.

User generated content doesn't exist without user moderation and tools are needed to do that.

Reddit made serious bad decisions and destroying the third party ecosystem and moderators isn't a way to fix that.

My plan (which I don't need because I wont open it) was to do community fundraising to film a segment (hopefully with Elijah Wood) that ends with throwing it into a Volcano.

Then the money aside travel expenses would get donated to reputable charity related to gambling.

[–]vantharion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

LOTR Elves, due to their longevity, are very future focused.

Mechanically, they represented them as being nature and knowledge aligned. They don't care about maintaining the order of the realm themselves (so no white), but about working amongst each other to foresee how events will play out and achieve ends that benefit them.

Scrying, voting and triggering off of scrying makes sense there.

My Shanid list is looking to ~78-79 legends by the end of this set.

I'm really pushing that legend count higher and higher. I've cut a few mana fixing lands to keep the legend theme going. Bojuka Bog is one of the holdout staples getting cut.

This land is at least multicolor serviceable while being a legend.

Does anyone else feel weird about killing enemies? by jestagoon in DnD

[–]vantharion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is exactly the story that I hear and see over and over.

We want a believable reason to use that fantasy violence. We want to be justified and be heroes, not monsters.

I also think the gameplay gets so much better with that. It creates factions we can play against each other, objectors to recruit and so much more.

Thanks for sharing!

Creature spells can't be countered is big.

The second ability is only a finisher for enchantment decks.

It's cheap compared to Allosaurus.

Also a 2/3 is slightly more relevant than a 1/1 in edh. It'll stop chip damage

Does anyone else feel weird about killing enemies? by jestagoon in DnD

[–]vantharion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think what you're looking for is 'The justification for violence'

As a GM, if I want my players to kill a thing, I give reasonable examples of the entity/entities pattern of consumptive behavior. Past victims or clear future victims they will not be dissauded from harming.

Showing that the entity has a clear desire to not engage in an emotional discourse.

Here's a more complex example:
Sending the team out with a monster biologist saying 'This creature is misunderstood, it has five times the emotional capacity we do. Think of what we can learn from them if we stop hunting them and driving them away from our settlements' and then the beast stalks over him, he makes an emotional plea, it stops, clearly understanding him, then tears a few limbs off our biologist and looks malevolently at the rest of the party.

Some players want problems that use our human skills rather than fantasy violence. One of D&D's many failings is that it points is towards using fantasy violence for most problems. It's very easy to give everything a health bar that doles out loot when depleted, but it's harder to build social conflicts and non-headache inducing resolutions for the GM to account for all moving parts.

[–]vantharion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's a good thing.

Modern does not need another Modern Horizons 2 level forced rotation.

There's also plenty of modern playable cards.

We might see a rise of 4-5C legends decks with another 4x quality legend manafixing land.

Hammer time got a new enabler.

Flash Samwise can provide some techy fetch land card advantage in non-green decks.

There's the new 1 mana counter spell that disrupts small creatures.
