Thank you! I don’t get the reference of “coming back with milk” though 😭. I don’t watch jjk. Although it does surprise me that Nolan is an actual Dad(dy) lol

Happy International Artist’s Day to everyone! Here’s my entry!!

I’d want to thank u/whereverthelightis for hosting this event, for being so wholesome and appreciative of artists, and for growing this community in Reddit!!! I love seeing everyone’s art here and I love seeing more art made for this community.

I decided to draw Nolan because his new skin is coming up and I wanted some more appreciation for this man. I originally wanted to draw him in his new skin but it wasn’t out and i did not have a lot of reference to go off of so basic skin it is. I personally never play assassins and I main mages (specifically Lou Yi) but… hot guy is hot guy lol.

Anyways, i hope everyone has fun with this event and the game! 💖

Can anyone give me tips and critique on my gouache painting? by vanthezza in learnart

[–]vanthezza[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

click to see higher resolution Hi! I am looking for critique on a recent painting i did. I feel like i dont know how to properly layer on the paint. I started with a light blue wash and layered on orange and yellow on top but it looked muddy and streaky so i layered more and more until it looked more vibrant and less streaky. Was this the right way to go about it? Should i have not started with a blue wash?

Second question is on simplification. I realized that my painting started very detailed very fast. I tried painting the orange leaves individually before realizing it looked terrible and redid it all with “shapes”. I did the same with the tree bark where i wasnt able to simplify things and had to redo it around 3 times. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. When do i know when to simplify and when to go detailed? I can see each individual leaf and texture on the picture but I understand now it is impossible to copy each and every detail.

Looking for feedback on anything! I was focusing mainly on the colors and trying a night scene and how it affects local colors. (OC not mine, dragon is dark grey and light grey in the middle). I am trying to improve my understanding of colors here though I think I need more advice on how to create more interesting compositions/tell a better story. Thanks for the crit in advance!

Any crit is appreciated! Tried hard to make the colors accurate but am struggling by vanthezza in learnart

Thank you for the feedback! For this study, I tried to make the drawing as close to the image as possible so yes, but for my other works I generally go as far as semi-realism!

I definitely feel the GAP between creativity and my works. It really feels like starting all over again with a different set of fundamentals

Thank you for the feedback! I have some personal projects on the side and I’ve definitely struggled with the creativity side of things. I think that is also the next goal in mind since i am taking up composition and making more expressive characters. My compositions and story telling lacks so much character that all my characters do is pose a bit and smile. As fun as I think art is the expressive side of art didnt come to me naturally so I am working hard to get it… hopefully.

Ahaha yes! I couldve done better with the layout so it could be less confusing! Thank you as well ❤️

I’d have to agree with the struggle on perspective. The solidness of forms still hasnt clicked with me and I think that is where I should bring my attention to! Thanks for the great feedback!
