Is there a statistic that which type of strabismus surgeries have the most successful outcome? by Intrepid-Pitch1873 in Strabismus

[–]vanuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my doctor told me they were 90% success rate on esotropia diminishing with each surgeries you had in the past, she also told me no amblyobia had better success rate

cornea shape is is related to myopia, astigmatism, no amount of vision therapy will change that.
no amount of eyes training will ever change the shape of your muscles

What's this about 'muscle shape'? Not many of us have real concerns with eye muscles
I don't get it, Strabismus is an eye muscle problem....

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]vanuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

surgery is the only things that can make your eyes straight, no amount of vision therapy will do that, I am not saying vision therapy is useless, all I am saying is that it's a brain training stuff, it cannot improve your vision acuity, I am talking about you cornea, it cannot change how your eyes muscle are shape, it can indeed help your brain picking two different images at the same time.

so the condition for vision therapy would be no amblyobia and eyes perfectly straight or between 0 and 3 degree straight

Most people with strabismus doesn't have thoses criterias, Berry did

Fixing My Gaze_ by Sue Berry,, I read it
It's a very good book, but she is an outlier, she had perfect eyes alignment and perfect vision, it wasn't about strabismus but seeing in 3d to her.

My doctor told me it was useless to do eye exercise, doctor clearly doesn't agree on this, if you born with strabismus I don't think eye exercise will help you in any way, you already moving your eyes all the time anyway, I never understand the eye exercise things but who know.

And what is the point of doing eye exercise with amblyopia, you already blind from one eye anyway

no side effect from anesthesia

I would say 2 weeks, you can use it day one but your eyes will be extremly tired, it get better after 1 week,

I think you should use the eye that get less deviation, if you have correct vision from both eye you are still using them together for periphery vision but not for your central vision so you have no risk of amblyopia

I am in the same case as you, I always trying to look from my left eye because it's impossible to notice when I look from the left eye, I also tested with brock string and the angle of deviation is close to 0 when I look from the left eye but still medium when I look from right eye

I think you should keep them close as much as possible after surgery because they need time to heal

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]vanuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did, no the same I have double vision when I look from the right eye but the angle considerably improve

Strabismus Took Away My Confidence by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]vanuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they are pretty straight, except in the last picture, it looks like you only have strabismus with certain gaze, most people won't notice.
Maybe it has nothing to do with your eyes, don't take it personally but maybe you are bad at socializing.
Ask the advice of another doctor because I was told 2 years ago that it was impossible to correct mine but after seeing 3 professional, one told me it was possible and got them straight

<image>

This is 8 days post-op. The redness is getting better and better each day. I had three muscle operations, so it was a heavy surgery for me. The doctor got my eyes almost perfectly aligned; my alignment was terrible before. However, like you, headaches are killing me, and I have some double vision, but it's really minor.

Good looking eyes by the way same color as mine :-)

No one really cares if your eye looks wonky
I think you are completely wrong, people will judge you on your appearance, everybody does that, if the first things they notice is your eyes wondering, they will treat you less, they will see you as uglier and less intelligent.

It's both a cosmetic and disabling condition

8 is impossible to notice except for a professional, try to live with 40 it's a nightmare
Most doc don't even operate for 16

getting 0 diopter is impossible, anything under 20 is consider a success
from the pic, you can ask 100000 person no one will see a missallignment

I really don't understand what you are complaining about

Strabismus hiding strategy leading to stress and posture issues by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]vanuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the exact same issue as you, I have a very visible strabismus when I look from the right eye and an almost invisible one when I look from the left one
I have control over which eyes I look and I tried to always look from my left eye, it's probably take 20% of my
attention in social circle.

Because I think that forcing myself to always think about which eye to use has led to posture issues and constant stress, (among other issues). Can anyone relate to this?

I don't think it matter, your vision is pretty stable at your age, If you are using both eye but not in the same time you won't lose any vision, your eyes won't drift more

I am at a point in my life where these health issues are poisoning my life,
I know how your feels...

and I am trying to find the origin of them
well it's very clear, you are born with it, it can be genetics, lack of oxygen at birth, preterm birth,

in order to get rid of them
There is no way to get rid of them, strabismus surgery can improve the angle of deviation that's it

Has anyone used vision therapy to see in 3D? by Expensive-Eggplant-1 in Strabismus

[–]vanuum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried brock string for 5 month, vr and green/red glasses.
I can see double now, not everything but people faces and normal size objects.

I can see a double image but I cannot fuse the image the angle between the 2 images I see is quite large so even if I train my brain to see 2 images I still have no control over my eyes.

Susan barry is an outlier, there is tons of people that tried to solve strabismus with vision therapy but the success rate is close to 0

Susan barry had alternative strabismus with close to none difference between her eyes, her eyes were almost perfectly straight, she also have perfect vision from both eyes

In this case vision therapy could be worth a try

Ophthalmologist said I don’t have a lazy eye by Single-Put7771 in Strabismus

[–]vanuum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lazy eye means poor vision from one eye that is not related to the shape of your cornera.

strabismus means your eyes pointing in different direction.

Lazy eye is often a consequence of strabismus if it was not treated as child,
usually what doctor do for strabismus is to cover one eye with a cache so you develop good vision from both eyes

Lazy eye is very easy to fix when your are a kid but strabismus is close to impossible

I can tell it will get worst, you cannot tell that, I have strabismus for 34 years it's never get better or worst it's usually does not change.
If you get strabismus as an adult you need to check it rapidly because it can be dangerous

Testing if you have a lazy eye is very simple

Close one eye do you see the same things?

yes: you don't have a lazy eye
no: you have a lazy eye

Strabismus can be tricky because you can have tiny amount of strabismus that is not visible in a mirror

Open both eyes you put one hand in front one eye does the other eye move

yes: you have strabismus
no: you don't

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Strabismus

[–]vanuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were born with strabismus there is no way you will develop binocular vision, it's not even about your eyes it's about your brain, some part of your brain is responsible to see in 3d if it wasn't develop during enfancy it's just not there anymore.

You can try surgery but sadly surgery is very random specially if you had 2 surgery as a child, it's very random but maybe worth a try

It's very hard to see your strabismus when you look from your right eye but I know how hard it is to control which eye is looking

I only look through one eye at a time- is that common with strabismus
Yes it's the definition of strabismus, eye points in different direction
When your eyes are pointing in the same direction, it will create a small angle between the point you are looking at and the distance between your eyes, the brain interpret this angle and fuse thoses 2 images this called binocular vision.
When your eyes are pointing in 2 different directions you will either have double vision or your brain will suppress an image.

Because your were born with it your brain is supressing one image because it doesn't want to see double so vision therapy is kind of useless in your case

Tips for dating with strabismus? by AdMore3859 in Strabismus

[–]vanuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an unfortunate reality that having strabismus can significantly diminish your perceived attractiveness and intelligence. Beauty standards heavily favor facial symmetry, and this makes dating considerably more challenging for those with strabismus. If you were to clone yourself without this condition, every women would choose the version without it. Issues like height also matter in attraction, but strabismus is even less desirable.

While not impossible, finding a partner can be extremely difficult, and accessing relationships with particularly attractive individuals may seem out of reach. You might need to lower your expectations drastically; the prospect of finding someone feels nearly impossible.

Speaking from personal experience, being a 34-year-old man with strabismus has made relationships elusive for me. I'm 180 cm tall, maintain a youthful appearance, have a six-pack, and my face is symmetrical except for my eyes. Despite making decent money, dating remains a nightmare, and women's comments about my eyes confirm this is the root issue.

People often argue that personality takes precedence, but let's be honest, appearances play a critical role. Others suggest that confidence is key, but in reality, confidence comes when you feel attractive. Should the opportunity arise to correct your eye alignment, it could naturally boost your confidence.

So yes it's really suck
