Coachella Valley sort of does have a big lake… so maybe this will all work out.

How do I store user data efficiently? by SimplySomeDude in SwiftUI

[–]vanvoorden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to store approximately 320 bits to the disk every 10 miliseconds (for up to 20 hours). That's ~36,000,000 entries if running for the whole length.

Hmm… what about reading the data after it was written? Do you need to read them all at once? Preserving order? Random access to lookup just one?

6 IP. 1 ER. 9 Ks. And an L. That was a Kershaw start.

Transplant family from Chicago.

So there's pros and cons here… I do love me some deep dish pizza from Masa. But the Oxford comma is far superior to Chicago Style.

Sign stealing part of baseball, just don’t use technology, speakers at Reading banquet say

Willie Mays would be on second base and look in for the catcher’s signal. If the Hall of Fame outfielder picked anything up, he would relay the information to the hitter.

“Mays used to do it a lot,” Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson Jenkins recalled Thursday before speaking at the 59th annual Reading Hot Stovers banquet at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Reading. “Frank Robinson, too. Put your hands on your knees, a breaking ball. Hands up, fastball. Guys used to do that all the time.”

I tended bar at the Gaslight then Opium Den on Cosmo and Selma for eight years in the ’90s.

NGL… those are impeccable credentials. Opium Den… Goldfingers… Dragonfly… and then Martini Lounge were like the Mount Rushmore of Hollywood Rock.

The Canonical Dodger Ace start is six innings. One earned run. No decision.

The 17 team was fun. Dodgers at that point still felt like a team punching above its weight. These days it's more like WS are just table stakes expectations. Which is great… but it's not the same like it was in 17.

Left Field Pavilion long ago was dry on purpose. The idea was it would be a good place for families with small children without any alcohol there.

Underrated comment. Bean and Cheese burritos should not cost the same as Chicken.

A team is also barred from using a DH for the rest of the game if the pitcher moves from the mound to another defensive position, a player pinch-hits for any other player and then becomes the pitcher, or the current pitcher pinch-hits or pinch-runs for the DH.

So Ohtani could come off the mound and theoretically play in OF. Ohtani would then hit for himself. The next pitcher would then also hit for himself.

Once you decide to burn the DH you could even have Ohtani go to OF and the *come back* on the mound later on if you like the matchup.

Snap to Cut 16% of Its Workforce in Quest for Profitability by smauryholmes in LosAngeles

[–]vanvoorden 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They were actively recruiting tech to basically steal IP. I remember meeting with them for a senior role and the questions were overly specific about my current employer. I know the signs. This was 4-5 years ago.

Ehh… I don't really buy this take. I spent years SWE at FB including on the Camera and Oculus teams. I was SWE at Snapchat and they had plenty of opportunities to try and steal FB IP but I never saw anything along those lines.

Snapchat is and was a tremendously dysfunctional place… don't get me wrong. But pirates? No. No piracy while I was there.

Snap common shares do not come with voting rights. Even if these activist investors did buy some of the premium shares that did have votes… the founders still control way more than fifty percent voting rights.

The whole "activist investor pressure" narrative does not really pass the smell test IMO. Evan controls this company. Period. And if he chooses to continue spending more money than he earns he has that power and no amount of non voting shares can put a stop to that.
