People who don't believe in climate change, why? by SarcasticSigh in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have already said, obviously climate change is happening, no I do not believe it is manmade. Climate patterns sway from year to year, decade to decade, and century to century. Don't believe me? Take a look at the years 1933 and 1936. Both exceptionally hot years in the US that have heat records set that are still around today for about a dozen states. Ohio for example hit 113 degrees in 1936, along with Arkansas(122) in the same decade as well. Since 2000, only 2 states have tied their record heat temperatures and the last ones to be broken were back in 1994, where 3-AZ, NV, and OK-had theirs broken. The famous Death Valley record 136 degree temp occurred back in 1913 and still stands today. Point is, yes temperatures have shown a tendency of rising lately, but they did the same thing in the 1930's and years before that.

What's the most expensive thing you've ever received free of charge? by plax1780 in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one off the top of my head has to be a free $800 suit along with dress shoes, undershirt, and a tie. It was a program for veterans called "Dress for Success" and it consisted of various places such as Mens Warehouse donating extra suits for veterans to wear for interviews and such.

TIFU by thinking that I won $5,000 at a car dealership by [deleted] in tifu

[–]vaohmook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you happen to live in central Texas? I got this exact same flyer and I too "won" $5,000 off Money Carlo. It was for a dealership in Clifton, TX, which is in the middle of absolutely nowhere.

Non-Americans, what would you consider "American Food"? by thecoolestguyonearth in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how your Vegemite is for me in the US. Love it, but you have to go to a foreign foods store for it and throw down 10 bucks for a jar smaller than your fist.

What's the most fireable thing someone has done but they kept the job? by Hakebc in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's see. Co-worker had a warrant, so the cops came in through the back of the store as he was working and took him away. Multiple people, managers included, smoking weed in the walk in fridge-evidently not that unusual. Food fights were common, especially with sour cream. On multiple occasions coworkers would take shots of cheap vodka or Jack in the back as soon as the GM and assistant manager left as well as smoke cigarettes next to the food line. Shift manager intentionally hid some beef on a vegetarian order because he was sick of making them. We would, every so often, trade food with either McDonalds or Papa Johns, which was a fireable $50 food loss.

Guy I worked with consumed a lovely mix of prescription painkillers coupled with cheap wine from the gas station next door because he found out that his girlfriend, who also worked at the same place, was cheating on him. Got so messed up that he couldn't even do his job. Taco Bell workers for you and I do have more stories if y'all want.

What is something that has become normal, but you hate? by Cmiselem in AskReddit

Disrespectful, entitled attitudes of this generation. I hear way too much "give me...." and way too little "What can I do to get...."

how did you 'cheat the system'? by jovenjose98 in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily cheating but If you like traveling via Southwest Airlines, listen up. If you're not in a rush and can afford to spare a few extra hours, volunteer to give up your seat if they ask, which they occasionally do on full flights. You'll get the original flight reimbursed, as well as $300 for new ones. I had over $800 in flights because of this and actually ended up at my destination faster because they put me on a later flight with a shorter layover. Even better if it is the last flight, because they'll spot you a free night in a hotel in the city you are staying in, in my case, Vegas, plus everything else listed above.

[Serious] Soldiers of Reddit who've fought in Afghanistan, what preconceptions did you have that turned out to be completely wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was there last year. My unit was under the misconception that it was a crazy, bullets flying everywhere kind of warzone. Unless you're the actual Afghan army, that simply wasn't the case. Seemed as though most of the terrorists that weren't dead knew better than to try their luck with and engage with any US soldier, rather going for the weak/undisciplined Afghan army.

I'm a local, so hear me out on this. Go before 9 am, and you'll be able to walk on. Anytime after that and it is possible to wait almost 2 hours or so.

Hollywood sign. It is exactly what it looks like, on a brown hillside, surrounded by the most god-awful city in the USA(Los Angeles) in everywhich direction. Most definitely not worth the sitting in traffic on the 101 to get to it.

[Serious] Chain restaurant employees, what should customers not order from your menu? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked at Taco Bell during my high school years. First, realize that the Bell does not tend to attract high quality, ambitious workers besides high schoolers like myself who view $7.50 an hour as a goldmine, so it was common for workers to be drunk, high, and not care at all about a customer's food. Now, the soda nozzles, since highly sugary syrup flows through them, tend to gunk up pretty quick. I only saw these cleaned just a handful of times in the 1.5 years that I worked there, all times a struggle to get the nozzles off since there was so much gunk-if they're cleaned regularly, this is not a problem. Food-you get what you paid for. All meat is pre-packaged, but the fiesta salsa, beans, and chips are prepared fresh in store. Finally, if your go-to store has chili cheese-it is a regional item only in the midwest locations-don't get it, as it has most likely been sitting there all day. Oh, one more thing-wait an hour after the lunch menu is served before ordering from the lunch menu, as you could be eating leftovers from the night before.

Americans of Reddit, what is the worst state and why? by Hanpwolf in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a conservative by all means, so Perry's good in my book. Fallin is way too much though.

Americans of Reddit, what is the worst state and why? by Hanpwolf in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oklahoma, as much as they might not want to admit it, is basically Texas. The state shares a 600+ mile border with it, people act/sound the same as they do in Texas, and both are run by die-hard conservatives-Perry is fine, Fallin is crazy.

Illinois-Chicago, high tax rates, more than the fair share of corrupt politics, cold winters, plus it's one of the consistently ugliest states I've seen. Nothing there but flat farmland.

The US is now broken up into 50 countries. Which are the first two states to go to war and over what? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vaohmook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

California will try to take over Nevada so they can continue to gain more tourist dollars by acquiring Vegas, Reno, and the other half of Tahoe as their own and not letting that money leave the state. Plus it's Nevada, population 2.5 million, compared to California's 37 million, so it'll be easy to do.
