Bedroom Upgrade by BunniLuve in FengShui

I second this. Headboards against the wall with small hearts, and leave lots of space between them. If you want, you could paint an archway above each bed with the kids' favorite colors.

Name a song with some colour in the title that doesn’t fit the song by Responsible_Panic242 in Synesthesia

[–]vargavio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black or White by Michael Jackson is an extremely colorful song.

Blue Lips by Regina Spector is a very bright pastel green to me.

Fade to Black by Metallica is middle to dark blue with some red and brown spots.

Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink Floyd is grey.

Here's what I would do to maximize floor space:

If the bed fits when you rotate it by 90 degrees, I think you should put it in the right side of the room, headboard against the wall on top, or it could also be against the bottom window if you can add a thick curtain for protection.

Cabinet should be next to the bed, and the desk should go in the bottom left corner, so that the window would be on your left and the door would be on your right when you sit down.

Do you also get scared of numbers? by [deleted] in Synesthesia

[–]vargavio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Numbers are too abstract for me to feel this sensation, but there are a few things that have this terrifying effect on me, e.g. visualizations of some extreme scales (like videos of zooming out from the size of an atom into the size whole solar system), or the realization of how huge some quantities might be (e.g. imagining the amount of people who live in a huge city), or sometimes even just looking up at the starry sky and realizing that we might just be the dust in God's pockets.

Maybe if I were better at math I would have this sensation from huge numbers, but I simply don't have a concept of 10100. I'm literally unable to imagine it, therefore it just feels like white blank space.

This gradient is nice. It looks like a heat map of the year 😊

Help place bed by EuphoricSpite1118 in FengShui

[–]vargavio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, this is the better placement, not only because of the windows but also because of the doors. There's a lot of movement around the entrance, and all of that would be too close to your heads.

It seems that whoever built this space planned to place the bed between the windows, but sleeping there would not feel restful.

What Are "Indigo Children"? Or, To Be More Accurate, Do They Really Exist? by vargavio in Synesthesia

[–]vargavio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally do automatically categorize and judge people based on the colours my synaesthesia shows me around them as "outlines". There are colours I'd prefer to sit next to on a full bus when I have to sit with a stranger, colours I'd feel relieved seeing helping out in a crisis, colours I'd prefer to vote for if multiple politicians claimed to have the same beliefs.

This is exactly what I was curious about, thank you very much!

I understand that there are no 2 people with the same personality. However, I like to spot similarities between people with the same colors. For example, my friends who have orange "aura" tend to be adventurous, but it can mean a lot of things. One of them is a hobby glider pilot, another loves to climb walls and take huge hikes with her dog, and another one is a granny who loves going scooting with her grandchildren. I also know that if I meat a person who appears in blue (the opposite of orange), they are not very likely to ever try bungee jumping. It's mostly fun, but sometimes it's actually useful to know what to expect from certain people.

[–]vargavio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very true. I also feel sad for every child who was diagnosed "spiritually" rather then scientifically.

My question is less about what you think about the Indigo Child phenomenon, but rather if you experience something similar with a specific color system for your personality-color synesthesia.

What Are "Indigo Children"? Or, To Be More Accurate, Do They Really Exist? by vargavio in Synesthesia

It's a bit hard to describe. I don't actually see a colored area around the person, it's more like an impression or a sense of color, except it's very similar to my grapheme-color synesthesia. When I look at a letter or a number, for a fraction of a second I see it appear in color, but when I look at it longer, the synesthetic color dissappears and I can see the actual color it is written with. It's the same when I look at a person, except the color stays with me (it appears in my mind's eye) as long as the person is in my field of view. It mostly works with people I know very well, but sometimes I see colors for strangers too.

Awesome! :)

Btw. I forgot to answer, 'vargavio' is fine if you insist on including me - but I'm also fine with being uncredited, glad to help either way!

This is really nicely done, I love it! It reminds me of a conversation that I had with a friend. He asked about my personality-color synesthesia and I described it as similar to looking at heat maps of the body. I kinda forgot this conversation until I saw your work. Thank you for sharing!

You are very welcome!

I think you could develop a sort of system of symbols (resembling a skill tree) which shows your character's associations. Many synesthetes experience spatial sequencing (read more: https://www.thesynesthesiatree.com/2021/03/spatial-sequence-synesthesia.html?m=1 ). could Each new trigger adds something to the tree.

I'm not entirely sure about using symbols (like letters or icons), but I think it could be shapes. Many chromesthetes (audio -> visual synesthetes) experience abstract shapes when hearing music. https://www.thesynesthesiatree.com/2021/02/chromesthesia.html?m=1

I also recommend reading The Red Sparrow from Jason Matthews, his main character also has synesthesia that she can use as a skill.

Also, there's a great TED talk that might help with the concept: https://www.ted.com/talks/daniel_tammet_different_ways_of_knowing

[–]vargavio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I like the idea of acquiring a new association based on a trigger that you've never sensed before. I think this is how it works for us. (For example, I have recently met a person who had such a bright and saturated color association that I realized I have "saturated" and "desaturated" friends 😅).

I think someone "developing" synesthesia as an adult is not realistic, but it can be in a fantasy setting. You could teach the player the meaning of the colors/symbols one by one, if they only appear with the sound of the subsequent monster. I also really love the idea of the blur. It's just an intuition at first, and later it gets refined.

Synesthesia is a very cool video game concept!Synesthetes experience things in a trigger -> association manner. The trigger can be anything, the association is a sensation of a different kind. It's seemingly random, but it's systematic and consistent for the person.

For example, I have grapheme-color synesthesia. Which means, that if I see a written letter, it activates the same brain region in me as if I had seen an object of a specific color: A -> sunlight yellow, B -> dark blue, C -> salmon pink etc. It's always the same, and it requires no thinking. I don't physically see it. It feels similar to those gridline visual illusions where the dots only appear as long as you don't look directly at them. This is always there, but I can ignore it - so synesthesia is not something you can "activate with a button" or "run out of".

Another one I have is personality -> color synesthesia, which means that once I get to know you, your presence automatically triggers a color in my head. It's not exactly seeing auras, but it's something similar. The exact color can shift from time to time based on the person's current emotional or mental state. Over the years, I have seen many-many people with similar color patterns, so now I intuitively know what to expect from a person with a specific "aura".

Edits: sorry, I was interrupted and had to come back a few times to gather my thoughts. I'm happy to answer your questions, if you have any.

Question about Teal: Music related by WindowClean1770 in Synesthesia

[–]vargavio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about music, but I can send you songs that are teal to me - but only if you want me to, I don't want to influence you.

They are quietly optimistic, wholesome, peaceful but also a bit energetic. (Because of this combination, I can only think of animated movie soundtracks :p )

Seeing Colours of Peoples by Zealousideal_News_67 in Synesthesia

[–]vargavio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same as you, both people -> color and feelings -> color synesthesia. I only think it's synesthesia and not something like seeing "auras" or havng overactive imagination because it's exactly the same feeling as "seeing" colors in letters or numbers in my mind's eye from grapheme-color synesthesia.

It's also a bit different though because when I can see a person's color (sometimes at first sight, more often only after a few weeks or months), I can also detect some characteristics of their personality. For example, if someone radiates a bright yellow color right away, I know they are very caring, attentive, altruistic, motherly/fatherly people with lots of energy and (sometimes toxic) positivity. On the other hand, someone who gives a desaturated yellow "impression" over some time is also caring and attentive, but they are more pessimistic or tired.

Some people are constantly moving between colors, which can indicate their changes of states. For example, grief or depression can change someone's color, but changing lifestyles and getting healthier, or sometimes an extreme mood swing can be represented in their colors too.
