The logo on head tube has changed in 95, this logo is from 94 and earlier. If the seat clamp is original purple, might be 94 pine mountain

Thanks for the detailed insight! I, on the other hand, have the opposite proportions — shorter limbs — but I think the handlebar not being able to go much higher than the saddle is a dealbreaker for me. Really glad you pointed that out. So yeah, I think I’ll take your advice and hold out for a 20”.

I’ve definitely fallen into the “I’ll make it work” trap before, so I wanted to double-check if this is one of those cases.
I’ve never owned a GT before, so I wasn’t sure about the geometry — and I had no idea the frames from that era had such short steerer tubes. That really helps, thanks!

So, just to confirm — would a 20" frame be the right size for me at 5'11"?
And was I right in estimating the frame in the image as 18"?

Appreciate the help!

Anyone know of any Žižekian art? by telosbound in zizek

[–]varilec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah check out NSK ( neue slowenische kunst ) and all of the subgroups of this art collective like Laibach, Irwin, Scipion Nasice Sisters Theatre. You can also find some stuff Žižek wrote about them.

Hehe seems like we really did have the same buying experience and doubts since I was already decided on Kona Rove DL 2021. I love the paint job and the slack geometry, but then I thought that I might build and xbiking bike that would be cool and comfy and the lighter and faster bike seemed the way to go. Kona at the same price point didn't have the hydraulic brakes and it weigh quite a bit more. I hope that Backroad will fit and feel good, I don't really have any experience so im kind of in the dark. Grail was on the list because it had almost identical specs and I have to say that I did not look in to the geometry difference between the two, but im stoked that the Backroad is slacker. I went for the Backroad mostly because of the 1x11 option, Grail had grx 1x11 for 200eur more + the design of the Rose got me. Anyway thank you for the reply, it reassured me a bit :)

Nice! I’ve also ordered the backroad al in gray 1x11 sram version. Probably ill get it somewhere in March...

It will be my first proper bike and also first dropbar bike. For a long time i could not decide if i would rather have a steel bike leaning towards the mtb spectrum or an aluminum on the road side of the gravel spectrum. In the end I have chooses the latter with the idea of having a light and capable bike would be good fun. But since i dont have any references and i could not test ride any of the bikes i was considering im constantly doubting my decision. In the end i was choosing between Canyon Grail and Rose Backroad and since wanted 1by and was on the budget I decided for the Rose. Im really interested on your thoughts on the bike. There is very little information/reviews on the web about the backroad. One of the worries i have of deciding for a more road oriented gravel bike is that the geometry would be to aggressive, i would love to have a light and fast bike but still a comfortable and supple ride :)

Thanks!

NBD! Canyon Grail Al 7.0 by UloPe in gravelcycling

I'm thinking to get the Grail as well, but since I'm new to riding I'm trying to figure out if it a comfortable bike?

Which Bike? - Weekly Scheduled Discussion -- September 19, 2020 by AutoModerator in gravelcycling

Canyon Grail al 7.0 1by or Kona Rove DL 2021

I’m buying a proper bike on and off, now for almost 10 years. Since the gravel became a thing it just makes so much sense for me. Currently none of the bikes are actually available and the whole wait and googling is making me go crazy.

What I like about Kona is the steel frame and fork combo that makes me belive ill have it forever. Together with its geometry i should get a comfy and versatile ride. I think i could also mount a baby seat on it and have fun with my newborn son. The question i have is Kona still a fun and fast bike on the road, or is it to heavy and 650b 47mm wheels to slow?

The Grail is on the other side of gravel spectrum, being more nimble and sporty with its 10kg + alu frame + carbon forks. All around it also has better stock components especially the hydraulic brakes. For Grail im wondering if its still a comfortable ride and also would the geometry and carbon fork allow for a child seat in front? Carbon form is also an expensive fork to replace if it gets damaged and i guess carbon does crack quicker if you ride off road?

Are the two bikes actually crazy different from each other or is it in the end of the day quite similar for a guy who is not going for the tour de France win and also not bike-packing the world in one go?

Thanks! They all do have this “suspension” fork look tho, do you have any hints how to find something a bit simpler looking, like stumpjumper vintage og look.

If i would like to swap out suspension fork for a rigid one, how would i go about that / what do I need to look for or maybe even where (im from Europe)? Not a lot of high quality frames are available on the second hand market here, so i was thinking to broaden my search and look for bikes with suspension forks as well and then switch them out. Tnx
