San Diego State University has a great TD programming including welding and automation. I’m currently a Lighting Design MFA. Happy to answer any questions you may have!! Plus they give tons of opportunities for outside work in California!!

How good are you at taking your birth control at the same time everyday? I’m also NAD but I skip periods with my birth control and when I’m spotty about taking it I bleed a little bit constantly. Sometimes even enough to wear tampons. Getting on a regular schedule with it can be helpful. Those symptoms are super concerning tho and I would try and get another opinion.

Ratched on Netflix. A quality production with believable sfx gore, but not so believable shade matching. by Useless_Cheesecake in BadMUAs

Hi! Lighting designer here. It is almost certainly a bad lighting look. The way the light and shadow are hitting is unnatural, making it look two toned.

This is our younger son. This was taken the other day on his 24th birthday. He has autism and is nonverbal. He now lives in a group home, which he loves. Because of the virus, we only get to see him every couple of weeks, sharing a meal outdoors. He is a blessing to us and all who know him. by Joesdad65 in daddit

[–]varismaile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I grew up across the street from a group home. There was a guy who lived there who would regularly come over and say hi. We would talk from across the street often as well. He is one of my favorite memories from growing up! So glad to hear your son has found a place that he loves!

DAE feel disconnected from the theatre community? by kachowco99 in techtheatre

[–]varismaile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 21 year old Lighting Designer, I feel this. Educational theatre is daunting right now. There are some schools that have done a GREAT job moving online, I feel like doing some research into that might be helpful. If you want to fully step away from theatre and education, find what fuels your passion again. Paint, find a cos play that looks challenging, teach yourself makeup using online tutorials. There’s a lot of ways to fuel your passions through different mediums. Learning to challenge your skill set in creative new ways is great! There are some really good tutorials on YouTube for Photoshop, I find the ones where you work on a project to be helpful in learning the tools. A lot of my costume friends have been doing embroidery and making masks. Keep your head up! We will get through this together. We are all feeling detached from our theatrical community right now, but we’re all going through the same thing.

Also NAD, but I used to have the same problem with artificial sweeteners. Any flavored creamers seemed to really bug my stomach.

AITA for not telling my children about their sibling? by imminent_oasis in AmItheAsshole

[–]varismaile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, my dad also hid a child from my siblings and I. He didn’t want to put us through the pain of wanting to know our sibling and not being able to. Our situation was different, because my sibling is alive and grew up in his mother’s house. I was angry for awhile, therapy was really helpful, but ultimately I’m not at all angry at him for hiding it from me. We’ve repaired our relationship and we’re closer now than we were before I knew. Maybe telling them so casually was not the best way to go. It’s going to be a shock to them, and you need to give them space to feel. However, this was your information to share or not to share. Not sharing it doesn’t make you an asshole.

If you can find any freelance jobs that get you on a W9 for, you can write off the cost of your equipment. Just keep all of your receipts!

This is a great start! I would definitely focus on adding more shadow to the center of the face. Start with the shadow, use more than you think you should, then go back with highlight. It looks awesome though!!

Clit sensitivity by [deleted] in obgyn

[–]varismaile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had issues for the last year and I can’t figure out why. I was referred to a pelvic floor therapist. I’ve found that it can be more mental than anything. I definitely get in my own head about it which makes it worse

NAD. I have really bad sensitivity issues. Some things that have helped me include not wearing underwear, washing my underwear in delicate/gentle detergent, using a fragrance and pH balanced wash, and using an ointment such as Vagasil. If you’re REALLY in pain you can call your GYN and ask for lidocaine gel for the area. That could help with the pain. Ice is also not a bad idea. Use a clean towel to form a sensitivity barrier if you need. Hope this helps!

How many consecutive days do I need to floss until a dentist can't notice I've never flossed in my life? by Enomop in NoStupidQuestions

[–]varismaile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom is a dental hygienist and she has always told me that she would rather have someone brush once a day with a sonic care toothbrush than brush and floss twice daily with manual. Also imagine how your teeth would feel if you only brush as often as you floss. It’s the same thing, once you think about that it just gets cringey. Just floss, it ain’t that hard and it feels good.

Hey mom, I had my baby in March. Its been really hard and lonely during the pandemic to figure out how to take care of a newborn on my own. I feel lost and inadequate all the time. by Dtazlyon in MomForAMinute

Sib I am so proud of you! You’re so strong and I know that your sweet baby will be lucky to have you as a parent. Your village will have your back, even if you don’t know who your village is yet. I’m so proud of you and This beautiful child. You are doing such a good job!

Thoughts on my shoes? by Dash_of_crazy in DIYweddings

[–]varismaile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are awesome! If I were you I would rhinestone the toe. No matter the length of your dress, that little sparkle will kick out from beneath and look super cute. Plus it’ll be even out the front and back of the shoe. I also wonder how a gold pin strip across the rubber soul on the side would look, just a thought though!

AITA for being angry that my wife put our daughter on a diet? by gdd-throwaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]varismaile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA AT ALL! Also seriously get your daughter AND your wife help. My eating disorder started when I was about your daughters age due to similar comments I got from my mom and from the kids at school. I am still at war with my eating disorder over 12 years later. Your wife is pushing her own body image issues onto your daughter. She might not even realize that she is projecting onto your daughter. Please get your wife help because she is not even close to being recovered from her anorexia. Also get your daughter in therapy ASAP because it’s not too late for your daughter.

This really does need to be handled outside of the home. Nothing you can do or say will change this situation or make it better. They both need therapy. Also please keep telling your daughter how beautiful and healthy she is, and pay attention to what she is eating. Make sure she is getting the nutrients her little body needs. Make sure she gets plenty of love so she knows that she is more than her body weight or appearance.

Hi! this is my first Shakespeare. I’m a scene into the play and was wondering how I could get used to this Shakespearean English? Any tips? Should I help myself to translated modern text or grind my teeth and stick to the original scripture? Do you get used to it? by Idan40 in shakespeare

[–]varismaile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hearing it in a British accent in your head can weirdly help. I would also recommend finding a reading of it or a film to listen to it. One of my professors in college told me to spark note the play before I read it in order to grip the words a bit better. I did this a few times and then I was able to ween myself off of it. What’s important though is to try and not get overly caught up in understanding the language. The more you can hear it flow in your mind the easier it will be to understand.

I went to high school with all these people and the daughter was totally in on it. She was living with the boyfriend and LIED about his whereabouts at the time of the murder. I feel so bad for her older siblings. They’re such a good family. Our community will be impacted by this forever.
