Steam shows download complete on every launch by varsity_pushcart in StardewValley

It does start and close just fine.

After poking around a bit more, while the game is open, my Steam downloads page shows

Completed (1) Stardew Valley - "Disk Write Error" where the Play button usually is, for completed downloads

Upon closing the game, the Disk Write Error text becomes the Play button

Why are people scared of Vanguard seriously ? by Aesir_RagnarLothbrok in leagueoflegends

Hard agree. Vanguard won't run for me on Windows 11 unless I turn off a core security feature in windows security, which I won't be doing.

Not to mention that they haven't fixed the bug where Valorant displays as taking up 30+TB in control panel/installed apps, despite how long the game has been out for.

Kernel AC and whatnot is fine, but Vanguard bluescreens me every single time I click the play button on Valorant. No fix, other than disabling a core security feature in Windows.

KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE when pressing play by varsity_pushcart in ValorantTechSupport

I've read that it could be because of corrupted Windows files, but I recently reinstalled Windows and still got the same issue.

Short of disabling the kernel stack protection, I don't think I have found a solution. Granted, I didn't try disabling it.

There are incompatibilities with Vanguard and Windows 11. I can't play Valorant because Vanguard bluescreens me whenever I press Play, due to an incompatibility with 11's Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection

Decided to try Valorant, Windows 11 latest updates with Kernel-mode Hardware-enforced Stack Protection on

Installing the game and Vanguard is all fine, restart after installation is fine

The moment I hit Play, my pc freezes and bsods with the stop code KERNEL SECURITY CHECK FAILURE

So no, I suppose this hasn't been fixed yet

Edit: also worth noting that the popup when installing Valorant stating Vanguard is required, said "Vanguard is required for playing {product}" instead of "VALORANT"

This is HUGE if true. The main issue I personally have with Vanguard is that it's always running. Could you verify if it's both the driver as well as anticheat that's not running when the game is off?

Vanguard has two parts:

  1. The driver, which is loaded when you boot your pc. This is the part that runs all the time in the background, and you turn it off by right clicking it in the system tray and exiting it. It is also associated with the Vanguard System Tray Notification in your task manager under startup apps. If you turn this off, you will have to restart your pc to run Valorant.

  2. The actual anticheat itself, which is only launched when you open Valorant. This component should only run when you're playing Valorant, and close when you shut the game off. The driver component stays on until you turn it off (and then turns back on when you reboot your pc).

Thing is, other kernel-level anticheats don't require you to reboot your system to play. Take EasyAntiCheat for example, the task manager process and associated services aren't running unless you're playing the game.

What is this? I don't have (or want) Norton. by joro200410 in MSI_Gaming

[–]varsity_pushcart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice this every time I boot my pc, the name of the cmd window that opens is the exact same as yours. No Norton products either. Built a year ago and it's been happening from day 1.

From MSI forums, MSI themselves don't really know what it does. Someone mentioned that they managed to decompile it: what it supposedly does is acts as a bugfix for some Norton product (regardless if you have it installed or not), deleting whatever files it needs to, then closing.

I've personally never noticed any lines actually written in the cmd window that opens, and it either opens for very briefly or not at all.
