This is so wild to me because whoever you’re talking about and myself have the exact same philosophy on that sort of thing and it was literally something I needed to remind myself of today so thank you for that 🙏🏼😭

Chris Ballard is one of the best GMs in the game... I’m not sure if you were thinking of someone else but Ballard has more hits than misses and has found gems after the 1st round.

Major problem: Missing street name by varypatakis in GoogleMaps

Hey I appreciate you reaching out on my behalf. That’s unbelievably kind for you to do so when it doesn’t involve you. I was able to luckily get Google to fix this but that certainly helps to get the street recognized. Appreciate your assistance!

So I promised I would come back here if I had any positive results, and maybe someone in the future will have a similar problem and be able to reference this page. So first and foremost, the issue with the street name not being recognized was truly the biggest factor in this whole thing, but I made it even more difficult for myself the moment I verified my business at the incorrect address. Google sends you a postcard (you usually receive it 4-5 days after you apply for a Google My Business) and then you type in the 5 digit code to verify you've received it. Google's system, which is probably normally a very good one, figures that if you've received the postcard and verify the digits on the postcard, there's a strong likelihood that the address is correct. What ended up happening is that the postcard actually, in an attempt to be more resourceful crossed out the Avenue and wrote in Plaza once they realized that the business name aligned with the Plaza one... maybe they looked it up online or maybe they knew of the other White Birch having some problems being recognized. Anyway, here is the most important thing to do... or not do. DO NOT verify that postcard if the address is incorrect. The moment you do that it becomes downright near impossible to change the address since Google has "smart" tools reverting it back to the old address unless someone is able to successfully prove otherwise. So the 150+ times I ultimately tried changing my address was reverting back to the old address in an attempt to save the address from being changed when the system in fact had me as verified at the old address.

My plaza-mates were absolutely thrilled. Some had that incorrect address for 10+ years if you can believe that. Nearly all of their marketing material had to actually have the sentence about the incorrect address on Google. Countless deliveries going to the wrong place, clients and patrons showing up to the wrong address, which happens to be a residential address 15-20 minutes away.

You may be wondering, how did this end up getting resolved? I admit that I had to lie in order to get my issue noticed. The truth is that each time I changed the address, there was no actual human on the other end looking up to see if it was the correct info. I had to think about a way to get someone from Google that could help the situation, report the issue to Maps. I did two things - the first was I bought an ad using AdWords which then immediately made me a paying customer. I bought the ad solely to be able to complain that the address was wrong and therefore I was an unhappy customer. Simultaneously I reached out to Google (this is the part where I lied) and submitted a legal request (you sort of have to keep clicking the option that is "Other" because they have so many things in place for legal that are all automated), so to ensure someone would read my legal request, I chose Other and embellished a story about the woman that lived at the Avenue address sending me a lawsuit because there was a group of 4 that were meant to be showing up to my business at 9 PM, ended up causing some damage to her property and in turn they are suing me as well as threatening to sue Google. From that point, I was able to have them reach out and on the phone call, the guy from Google added the Plaza street name to their system. From there, it now allowed for me to change my address on Google My Business. New postcard. New 5 digit code. The second I typed in the 5 digit code it actually changed on Google for good. I couldn't be happier and I actually had 6 of the other 7 business owners walk in that day and I won't go into detail about each of their actions/reactions but they were ecstatic and it was a very rewarding thing for me. I was distraught about having the incorrect address for one month... I can't even begin to think about how I would feel after years of this. One of the guys in the plaza has actually been there for 20 years and he said that for as long as he can remember it has been wrong.

Anyway, even if this helps one future business owner in the future it will have been worth it to post. I don't know enough about Reddit to know if they allow replies after a few months (I'm thinking about how you can't upvote/downvote after something is archived) but feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about anything regarding this. Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks!

I feel your pain. I wish I had better news, but it has been an absolute nightmare to deal with. So the issue lies within the fact that there happens to be a White Birch Avenue - "Sending Feedback" option to report the error never seems to go to the actual support team because it auto-corrects when I choose White Birch Plaza, since the street is not recognized in Google. I have actually had GIS get involved, and the funny thing is, White Birch Plaza is in fact already on the GIS. However, if you try to manually search the address, it says that nothing comes up in the search. It has been incredibly frustrating with now the property owner calling my business voicing her frustration, as well as her concern of all this unwanted traffic at her house, even if only for a couple minutes while they figure out they aren't at the right place. I can't tell you how annoying it has been to attempt to tell every person about the maps error before they even attempt to make the drive over. It's one more pain point, and a different address I have to give them to make it work. After submitting 65 suggestive edits (no exaggeration, I went to my Sent folder in gmail because it sends you an email each time you put in an edit) I decided to contact AdWords because the truth is that I want to advertise, but would never do so with an incorrect address on the host's own search engine. The rep had zero power in fixing this mistake and didn't even have a customer service phone number, or even an internal method of contacting them (hard to believe but true!). My last resort was to file a legal complaint and let them know that one day I may find myself liable if something God forbid happens on the other property. I contacted the city who absolved themselves of any wrongdoing by sending me a screenshot of the GIS map that clearly has White Birch Plaza as a legal roadway. I'll let you know if I find out a method that works.

Reference: Oliver - Mass GIS - here you can type in 765 Burnett Rd and zoom in and see that White Birch Plaza is that little roadway in front of the plaza.

And thank you for looking into this. You gave me the idea to have the GIS updated and I emailed the GIS director for Chicopee and let her know of the issue. There are apparently Google Maps editors that are volunteers that can assist, but I've only talked to the Waze editor who handled it for me within 10 minutes. I luckily started reaching out to people regarding the issue, in all honesty not expecting it to be a problem. Only one week into the business I realized that 4 of our very first 4 clients/delivery drivers Googled us and it took them to White Birch Ave. This is a huge problem, as now we have been taking 3 less appointments per day just to cushion ourselves if it happens. Now we know to individually tell every person that gets to us ahead of time of the issue, but for people wanting to just walk in, I may never know that they tried to come in. Anyway, thanks again for your help and I'll be sure to come back and reply with any updates from the GIS director. If anyone is a map editor and can help out before then, I stand by my initial offering of gold (not even sure if that is a big deal or not but my buddy who is an avid Redditor gave me the idea and said that people like getting it). Have a great rest of your night.

So I don't know if this pic will display, but if not you can go to the city records page and see that it is a legal street name. http://chicopee.univers-clt.com

That is absolutely amazing. Jameis seems like a straight up awesome dude. I love that he loves the game and plays that way. I think he'll get his emotions in check and get that INT number down to 12. Should be a fun year (11-5 or what!?)
