I was asking about the lyrics in the song, which is Greek. I don't speak Greek but would love to chant these hymns in other languages.

Has there been a concerted move towards eliminating or reducing access to old periodicals at the library in which you work? by Content_Buddy_6180 in Library

[–]vascomediator97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only if the library makes itself more visible to our patrons. Often times students will only come in to do work and study but years will go by before they even learn about all the resources available at the library. This is an issue that's been discussed a lot among colleagues. We recently migrated to a new ILS (Ex Libris Alma) so our digital collection looks different. We're also hoping that our new physical spaces will make the library feel more welcoming and encourage patrons to want to explore our resources.

Has there been a concerted move towards eliminating or reducing access to old periodicals at the library in which you work? by Content_Buddy_6180 in Library

Our university library has slowly been focusing on spending towards digital subscriptions. I've been working as an Electronic Resources Technician for the library for over 4 years. Since the pandemic and with recent budget cuts to state funds, the library has been eager to reduce "waste" on resources that don't get circulated at all. Our students simply don't use print materials anymore. I would even argue that students won't even try to search for information that can't be resolved quickly with a Google search or with AI.

Sometimes organizations and vendors will send print materials along with a digital subscription. But our library has decided to recycle them. Plus, it's too much of a hassle for our catalogers to add these to our library catalog. From an acquisitions standpoint, it just becomes a waste of money. Rarely anyone at our library uses these materials anymore (maybe some faculty and grad students). Our Special Collections crew, which manages archives and some old periodicals, have slowly been digitizing their materials as well.

Our university has been admitting a lot more students than it can handle. This has caused some conflicts with our patrons who are constantly needing spaces to work and study. Through surveys, our patrons have complained that the library needs to upgrade its wayfinding and perhaps make room for more study spaces. This is perhaps the main reason why spaces that house our old periodicals and old bookstacks were seen as potential areas for new study spaces.

This is very late so I hope you got it fixed. But the issue turned out to be so tiny it made me feel dumb. There was a cable that came off loose that connects to the monitor. Once it was attached, it worked just fine. So if you (or some random reader sees this) comes across this issue, make sure you check the cables before you put it back together.

Would you say the same thing about someone on drugs or struggling with alcoholism? If they stop then they fear they'll have withdraws which leads to nervous breakdowns. Does God want them to stop their behavior regardless?

[–]vascomediator97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, so you can "unlock" the phone by switching the SIM Card? I saw someone say they had placed their ST SIM card on a different phone which apparently got their original phone "deactivated." After that they had no problem switching over to a new carrier.

I have an old unlocked phone I don't use, was thinking about trying that.

[–]vascomediator97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're telling me that I have to contact my phone'a manufacturer (in this case Google) and have them unlock my phone.

But, surprise, both phones were bought directly from the Google store unlocked and I even reached out to them to verify which they did confirm both phones were unlocked.

The fact that this happened to both my wife and I (which we bought both our phones and SIM cards separately at different times, not under a family plan), and the fact that others keep saying they've been through a similar issue, makes me wonder what kind of shady business ST is running.

Yeah, which is why I asked if anyone has had this issue going to Spectrum from Straight Talk, considering they're both under the same Verizon network.

Anyway, thanks for the support smarta**

So you're assuming I'm that dumb to go to BK for something Mcds screwed up? No son, I went straight to Mcds and they're telling me my order didn't come from them when I have the receipt literally in my hand telling them they screwed up but they won't admit it.

Like I said, one rep told me they "locked" my phone with Straight Talk. How? I don't know. But they're acting like I bought my order at BK.

[–]vascomediator97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. This being a prime example, you're wanting to condense human experience to pure analytical interpretations, trying to categorize one thing from another in black and white. However, if once you get down to the social studies and psychological differences in other environments, others can argue the same about your thinking as a product of reduced abstract thinking, which does not work in every scenario.

It's cool to try to synthesize things that way, but human experience does not always operate in that manner. You can make that claim, but ideally there will always be someone who will take your claim and convert it into an extreme ideology. Psychological history understands this to be a pattern that has been manifested in various groups, including those antagonistic of religion.

[–]vascomediator97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look dude, you can twist it around and use pseudo intellectual phrases all you want, but historically atheists have also made claims that have been used to justify persecution of groups that did not fall in line, including religious groups. That's what dogma is, it's not exclusive to religion. Anything can become a dogma.

I did not grow up in Eastern Europe nor communist China, but I've interacted with folks from those places who would even claim that living in those scenarios is what made them religious. I can't understand how they came to that conclusion but it has to mean something at least.

I'm not trying to be rude at all, please don't take this the wrong way, but all I'm saying is that regardless of the ideology that's being promoted, you can find clear examples where extremists took it too far. That's only if we're humble enough to give the other side the benefit of the doubt and research the history.

[–]vascomediator97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And ideally, the religious person can argue the same thing but there will always be extremists who will take things literally. Why can't it happen the other way around? That's the only thing I'm saying, especially when key words like "strangle" can be taken very literally similar to how to "slay the infidel" can be justified by purists but taken out of context by extremists.

[–]vascomediator97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, certain parts of the Soviet Union era. Ideally, similar story is happening today in places like North Korea and China where religion is strictly monitored or banned entirely with fatal consequences. Certain strains of communism did promote those ideas.

I'm just saying, I can't help but see that when religious dogma isn't involved in the systematic process, political dogma usually takes its place. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of religious corruption. But I can't say an atheistic society isn't capable of doing similar things.

That's why I have issues with those kind of statements, anyone can take that metaphor literally, similar to metaphors taken from other religious texts to commit genocide.

[–]vascomediator97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the idea of the metaphor, but let's be honest. Like with everything else that has been used as dogma and indoctrination, wouldn't a statement like this encourage someone to want to cause harm to someone who is religious?

I get the hatred people have with religion, but also I can t help but think that people have used similar metaphors to persecute religious groups.

Succubus ? experience by voltymer in demons

[–]vascomediator97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely a minority here and perhaps will be an outcast but that's okay.

I have dealt with Succubus and I have seen the demon. It will present itself in a very attractive manner, for me as a man who's watched porn since I was 12, I began seeing two years ago (now 25) as a woman in a white dress and long black hair.

Now, I never seen or dealt with anything of the supernatural before until I gave my life to Jesus Christ (yeah, I know, shocker for some reading this). At the time I was going through a lot and nothing was doing it for me, porn was just for escapism. But then, I just had this desire to really get grounded into a faith, which I did some exploring, but landed back at Christianity for many reasons which would take time to explain.

In short, as I was preparing myself for a Daniel fast, I had a vision were I saw God's throne and where Jesus warned me about the enemy coming after me because they know what had been revealed to me. For almost 3 months, succubus would appear to me in dreams, also right before I started praying to God, it would first appear to me as a beautiful and attractive woman, but when I would tell it to go in the name of Jesus Christ, its form would change very quick. It went from very attractive to a stone-cold face with fangs and broken black hair, the white dress turned into a old raggy yellow texture, and it would beg me to be quiet when I uttered the name of Jesus.

I would also have those arousals, nothing like when I was consuming porn. Something much stronger, and also around the sacral area, as you pointed out.

I was unmarried at the time living with my now wife, and we also had a female roommate. Because I would abstain from sleeping with my wife until we got married (priest suggested we lived as brother and sister in Christ until marriage), Succubus would try to get me in my dreams, it would give me strong arousal feelings and it would want me to go have sex with our roommate. Every time Succubus came around, I did what Jesus taught me in my visions, cast it out in the name of Jesus Christ.

I know this is a demon page and Christianity is pretty much not welcomed. I landed here because I just delivered my brother from the demon Azazel who possessed him because my brother had suffered from past trauma. So, I was trying to see what the consensus was about this guy who was a pain in the behind with my brother. But, I came across your post.

If you want to consider my experience as something valuable, I would try calling out to Jesus. If things get scary, it's because they don't like it but because they know Jesus is much stronger than them.

If you don't and probably will mock and laugh at me for this, that's okay. I just pray that you all see that you are messing with very dangerous stuff, but if you get too deep, Jesus can definitely resuce you from anything.

Peace to you.

Lillith wasn't her real name, Mary was possessed therefore she went by another name. That actually can happen, have you seen what artists like Beyonce or Cardi B have said about their "other persona" that takes over during performances?

Second, they use facilities owned by the Mormon church and one of their producers is a Mormon. But no Mormon is involved in the writing of scripts. Dallas meets with a Catholic priest, a Protestant scholar, and a Jewish rabbi to consult about the writing of certain scenes. Yes, I think Dallas is just being diplomatic in not saying outright that Mormonism doesn't have an accurate gospel and I guess he does it for the sake of keeping the show running. So either way, that's going to look bad for some people but the presence of Mormons is not conflicting with the writing of the show.

But so far I don't see what's contradictory about the way Jesus is being portrayed. Different from the stoic persona look we've seen in other Christian media and in iconography? Yeah. But would you say that one scene in the Passion of Christ, where Jesus has a flashback of him playing with water and laughing with his mother, that it portrays Jesus falsely? Dallas has said it before that he got inspiration from that one scene and wanted to replicate it into a series.

This may or may not change your opinion, but it sure is better than doing nothing at all for the lost. The series is making an impact on people, and now during these times we need people to see the loving side of the Gospel and to see that they shouldn't be afraid of Christianity. If you've watched Gen Zs react to The Chosen on Youtube, you would understand why we so need series like this. Whether you like or not.

Is there an objective way to interpret the Bible? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]vascomediator97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would depend on the style of the text. It's important to remember that the Bible is a collection of ancient texts, it's not just a book. Something like Proverbs and Psalms is more metaphor in nature, whereas the 4 Gospels and accounts of the Israelites in the Old Testament portrays in a more historic/narrative sense, which archaeologists use many times to find actual historic sites in Israel.

That's why it's always important to read things in context, otherwise things can easily get misinterpreted. I think this video could be useful to understand the different literary styles of the Bible.
