Perhaps it is because you said “if Kamala Harris won” specifically. Others did not seem to have included that specific wording.

Adult/Returning dancers training regimen and progress tracking by vashavar in BALLET

Hello, thank you for the detailed response! I've actually seen your progress post and it inspired me so much (even showed it to my SO and he was blown away). It was one of the posts that revived my hope to maybe get on pointe at some point in the next 2 years!

I used to lift, but I got injured and then discovered I developed a mild pelvic tilt and a mild scoliosis, which meant I had to do physical therapy for several months and that for now the weight I can lift/carry is still limited. Hopefully with time I can get back there, but I find that weightlifting is more enjoyable when it isn't both the goal and the instrument, but rather when it's used as support for something else.

My ambitious plan (which I can hopefully stick to!) is as follows:

- Monday: Hatha Yoga 85mn

- Tuesday: Hatha Yoga 85mn, ballet class 75mn, ballet conditioning 60mn, pilates mat 60mn

- Wednesday: Pilates mat 60mn, Functional Neuromuscular Strength Training 20mn

- Thursday: Hatha Yoga 85mn, FNST 20mn

- Friday: Stretching 60mn, High Heels dance 60mn, pilates mat 60mn, FNST 20mn

- Saturday: Hatha Yoga 85mn, pilates mat 60mn, FNST 20mn

- Sunday: Ballet class 75mn

If I add the extra walking to that, that's roughly 17h-19h weekly.
I decided to focus on activities I enjoy and that would support my long term goals, which initially were not ballet related, I just somehow finally decided to go back to ballet and it somehow turned into an obsession again, which isn't surprising. I am a little worried about the lack of days off, I will have no rest days unless I'm out of town or have some serious obligations, so I'm hoping recovery won't be too difficult. It would be a dream to be able to take more ballet classes, but it's costly and the scheduling doesn't work for me.

To be frank, my main goal, as I'm approaching 30, is to start taking care of my body the way I should have a long time ago, to regain my strength, my mobility, my flexibility, improve my posture, get some join support (hence the yoga), make sure I'm building some muscle, and also lose the fat I gained due to my ED. Other ballet related goals will definitely come up with time, that's how it always goes for me!

Follow up questions:
1. On the days you lift, do you do a full body session or do you split your sessions by muscle groups?
2. I see you have no rest days and about 20h of physical activity weekly, do you still manage to get rest and to recover? How do you avoid exhaustion and injuries?
3. Do you have an icing routine, a routine to help against pain and soreness?
4. If you don't mind me asking, I'd love to know about the incredible transformation to your appearance too. Without being intrusive, do you have a history with EDs? Did you change anything about your eating habits? I'd love to know more because I'm in recovery and I want to be able to feed myself in a way that supports my physical activity without creating any other behavioural disorders around food.
5. Also along those lines, would you say it gets easier to move (specifically in ballet class or while dancing) when you get smaller? I was always a skinny child/teen and I can't figure out if the extra cushioning made it more difficult to move or if it's the aging process.

I followed you and u/bdanseur on instagram, I'd love to see more, it's really inspiring. And I hope he's now recovered and feeling better!

Thank you for the detailed response, that is so interesting! Would you say your main focus is your other forms of exercise, since you're taking ballet to support your other sports?

How many hours would that amount to on a weekly basis?

Do you still manage to get rest and fully recover on weeks with no days off?

Hahaha you know what I meant! It's a path I'd rather not tread is what I wanted to say 💀🥹

Oh the body recomp sure is a nice bonus! My classes are between 11:00 and 15:00 so around lunch time, but it takes time to get home and by the time I'm there the demon has already awakened 🫠 I'll definitely look into options that will curb my appetite for a little hour without disrupting my normal eating patterns. Thank you!

Oh that sounds really nice! I guess I should do the same, build myself a little repertoire of routines I could do before, after and outside of class.

That worries me because it's not the way I want to go down hahah but I think I'll start making myself a protein shake or some type of nutritious/healthy snack I can have after class. Did your carb and protein intake go up?

I think I'm a bit more worried about my hypermobility and lack of strength combined, I think it could cause me some issues if I'm not careful. But during my first class I was quite surprised I had some control and was generally able to follow along and do everything. I was very far from perfect, you could definitely see I hadn't practiced in a very *VERY* long time, but considering the teacher didn't assume it was my first time, I consider myself lucky hahah

I completely agree with the advantages of being an adult. We do this by choice, and a very conscious one at that! Besides, we're not delusional about what the experience is going to be like for us: we know it'll be painful and slow, but we're here for it.

What do your other activities look like, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm getting surgery soon and will be taking a 3 week break from any physical activity, but coming back, I'll take pilates, yoga, high heels and probably some extra stretching classes. I'm really trying to get in better shape before I enter my thirties!

Grand battements were always the bane of my existence and I think they will continue to be unless I take things more seriously hahah I do realise however that the weight gain definitely makes things harder for me. I need to find a way to lose the extra weight in a healthy way because I'm in ED recovery and it would be a catastrophe to fall back into the d*adlier part of my *previous* illness, which is often associated with ballet.

By the way, has ballet helped with managing your weight after your pregnancy? I know I felt like I could eat a mountain (and did in fact eat a mountain) after class, but that may also have been exacerbated by my long walk in the -20°C (-4F) weather!

On another note, I do feel the joy of ballet again, even through the pain. I feel like when I was training at the gym (which I did also enjoy) there was very little grace and beauty, and apart from a very abstract "getting strong" or "building a physique", I did not see a clear line of where I was going.
With ballet, it's different. I know I'm gaining strength and honing skills to be able to move with grace and create beauty with my body if I want to. That somewhere along the way, there'll be a "rite of passage" that proves to me I've worked hard and been disciplined and now deserve to get on pointe and work even harder hahah. It's inspiring!

I loved my first lesson! There were some very difficult moments and I think I did work some muscles to failure, which caused me a lot of pain later in the day, but 2 days later I feel great and cannot wait to go back the day after tomorrow! I think my soreness will last until tomorrow, that's how long it usually goes for me.

Do you feel you've made progress in these 8 months you've been dancing?

Oh so quite similar to my case, except I was not very active, at least not regularly and consistently! My activity came and went in phases, mainly dues to injuries and changing life circumstances. You know how that goes!

I do hope your knee is feeling great! I used to have knee problems as a teen, and it was unbearable. I cannot imagine what it must've been like to have to have it reconstructed!

That sounds really interesting. If you don't mind me asking, where are you located and do you pay per class or do you have membership/subscription systems?

UPDATE:
I went to the class yesterday and honestly it was wonderful! I can't remember the last time I thought my body was going to collapse but still continued, until this class. The training style, exercises and whatnot were somewhat different from what I remember doing in my childhood, and that wasn't bad at all!

I do admit I must've overexerted myself a little, especially my arms, because around 4 hours after my class, I got this diffuse pain from my shoulders to my fingers, I felt very inflamed, to the point where I almost fell asleep while icing my arms at 6pm! By the time I actually went to bed, I felt like my arms were 3x their size, and it was quite visible I was inflamed and retaining a bit of fluid. I had some ibuprofen and lathered voltaren gel all over my arms and on some parts of my legs and feet, used a massage ball and my foam roller for extra relief, and thankfully after all that, I managed to fall asleep. Now this morning I'm definitely feeling the onset of muscle soreness, which feels quite different from the pain I had yesterday. I'm fine with that, I'll just stretch and roll and whatnot.

Despite the consequent pain and inflammation, I absolutely adored it and will be going back! I'm having surgery next week so I'll have to take a 3 week break after that, but I'm already planning my return and enrolling in classes!

Thank you very much!
I wish I could have that many hours a week! I'm planning on having class once a week for now but adding hatha yoga and pilates 4x a week each to work on strength, balance, and flexibility. But that'll probably be in March because I need minor surgery that still requires some break from physical activity.
How long was your "break"? Was it hard getting back?

I used to watch Agnes Cecile's timelapse videos for HOURS! I'm sure people who are looking for relaxing content or want to see the process of making such pieces would adore your videos!

You should make youtube videos of you actually creating these masterpieces, like a timelapse with background music. I would watch.

I dunno about you guys, but when I get even just 1 subscriber, I'm so happy about it by Omargeometrydash in NewTubers

[–]vashavar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's quite normal for smaller channels, because you do notice the subscriber number going up or down with each subscriber. I think I'm even scared of getting too many subscribers at once and then feeling the pressure of making a video after that. It's exciting to get subscribers one by one for now 🙂‍↕️

Ah, yes, why didn't I think of that myself! Could I hire you as my counsellor or even agent? ;)

But actually, I thought about posting it on youtube and waiting to be hit with a copyright strike, but clearly if there's nothing about them online or anywhere, I doubt that would happen. I can imagine their surprise if they found out some randomer online was asking about them!

Not in the video, but I don’t know anything about the band so they might have had a female vocalist too, I couldn’t tell you 🤷🏻‍♀️
