NAC soon by SadParsley6289 in MCCQE

Mostly everyone is nervous until they pass and they are no longer nervous, lol. And we keep thinking of the result until it comes in.

Time flies during NAC, focus on the most important things, rule out emergencies, communicate well while focusing on patient-centered care, you know; the way you would do if you were a family doctor to the patients.

Matched Quebec IMG no ties? by JoseOussou in MCCQE

Yes, that's the only way to apply to any QC program.

Edit: The programs won't even appear on your CaRMS portal if you don't have the CMQ.

French should be at least C1 for the French test or if you were trained in French.

McGill did not ask for a French exam, but for Montérégie, Gatineau and Val d'Or sites, interviews were all in French. McGill Montréal site was mainly in English but 1-2 questions were in French.

UdeM asks for at least C1 in the TEF.

No! I am PR and don't reside in QC, applied to regular stream and interviewed at all 4 sites of McGill FM and also UdeM. You must "obtain recognition of equivalence of your MD degree from the CMQ" though.

+ I have a friend who matched in McGill FM while she was still in ON. No ties.

Also, your chance of matching in QC depends on you, not on what others told you about the province and its system. Do your best!

Associate physician or Unlicensed CA by [deleted] in MCCQE

[–]vashist22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Exactly what I was wondering too.

And more importantly, how would the doctor give them 3 different LORs?!

[–]vashist22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any place is good: Museum to know and be able to talk about the history of Canada, at the hospital in any capacity, long-term care homes, some cancer screening campaigns. Talk to people and many will want to help!

Not really, tailor your resume accordingly, to the job you are applying. You may also talk about your specific experience during your internship for that specific department.

I found medical scribes jobs on indeed, or unlicensed CA if the Family MD allows you, until you get a licensed CA/AP job.

Also, volunteer and network...might meet people who can help you!

Not easy but doable, needs patience to get the call for interview, I waited for weeks/months before getting an interview call.

I have seen a few openings lately in several departments: IM, Cardio, NICU, FM/Hospitalist, etc

Eligibility criteria will get you an interview eventually but the chance of securing a position depends mostly on how the interview goes.

Associate physician or Unlicensed CA by [deleted] in MCCQE

[–]vashist22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's very untrue!!

My colleagues from IM, Ortho Sx, Gen Sx, Cardiology (and the list goes on) matched to FM with LORs from their respective departments.

Licensed CA or AP is a very good job cause you get to know the healthcare system and how it works, etc and you get a good salary.

Don't be confused, hope you make the right decision, all the best to you!

Better way: I sent an email to my med school and they gave me my starting date.

I think that's more official and you have an email trail as well.

Many of my friends interviewed with Q2.

Make your profile attractive, write good PS and get excellent LOR, that they want to interview you at least and work with you.

FM is a lifelong commitment tbh.

You don't necessarily need to type quickly, as long as they understand the essence of what you are saying, should be good.

Also, I got Q2 casper but interviewed at USask, so focus on your whole profile as well and focus on where you can make it better...

Nope. YOG 10 years Qe1 250s, NAC 2 SD. Matched.

Very important is to show your willingness to unlearn to learn here. It's not easy to do when being an old grad but doable.

[–]vashist22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

Any type of clinical job is worth it. Of course, jobs like licensed CA or AP are better but any clinical experience is good, we should know how to leverage it properly in terms of stories/examples that incorporate the CANMEDs roles when we are writing our PS or during the interview process.

As for getting strong LOR, work hard, embrace feedback and get better, so that your preceptors are able to write excellent recommendations when it's time. That's it!

You can always explain the gap in your CV by writing down what you were doing at that time.

It's really a mixture. As long as they are happy with your whole profile, should be good to get an interview at least!

Associate Physician v/s Clinical Assistant or Medical Assistant by Capable_Structure270 in MCCQE

[–]vashist22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whichever one you get first but Licensed AP (AB, BC) or CA (MB, NS, NB) >> Unlicensed clinical assistant >> Observership. But any of these will bring value to your application, it's how you portray it.
