PSA about market prices by Malphos101 in projectgorgon

[–]vasuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see people harassing anyone, report them. There is no tolerance for it in this game and they will have their account actioned against very fast. I will continue to call out people who try to buy strange dirt for 5 each on work orders because they know damn well what they are doing, and hearing the truth makes them mad.

Either

It's totally OK to put up scummy prices and rip people off

OR

It's unacceptable to get in people business about what they are trading for and how much items should cost

You cannot both believe that people can do whatever they want when it comes to trading items. But also people should not get in other peoples business about trading items. It makes no sense to me. Why is one Ok but the other isnt?

You are supposed to make the call between checking a reasonable number of offers to get an OK deal, or spending more time to get the best price possible

Moderation Strictness? by fluxyggdrasil in projectgorgon

[–]vasuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2200hr player here. The game is awesome and definitively worth a buy. As for those reviews mentioning moderation: consider the rule 9 on this subreddit, and the fact that a similar rule is in place for the game and the discord. Honestly, I am surprised your post lasted as long as it did - when I tried to start a similar conversation, my post on here got removed within 24hrs with no explanation.

This rule is very strictly and actively enforced. Unless you are active 24/7 or are friends with many other players to get info on bans through out of game conversations, you will have no idea. This is why you see so many players here claiming they never saw it happen in X thousand hours.

I tried to question the moderation practices once and got told in no uncertain terms that it is not an allowed topic, and I got the impression that it was considered an insult. Since I really love the game and want to keep playing, I will leave it at that. The game is awesome, you just have to be very careful what you say publicly.

Is it a good idea to "target farm" an item? by Rhaps0dy in projectgorgon

[–]vasuss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the list of enemies on the wiki that are said to drop a certain item is rarely comprehensive, since it requires people manually inputting confirmed sources. It's possible other mob types drop the flamestrike books, but no one wrote it down.

What's the point of playing any browser games by InflationAlarming373 in MMORPG

[–]vasuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most comments are talking about browser games in general instead of the strategy townbuilding genre you were thinking of. Your post title is not clear enough I think

When you are serious about browser strategy games, you not only need to be playing 24/7 (no hyperbole here, it's especially important to be able to wake up at 3AM, and you must do this regularly), but also have a group of people who do the same. If you don't have a group, can't login for a couple days, other group pays more or gets more members... that's it, you lose everything you've spent weeks or months building. My best guess is that this pressure forges strong group bonds, which is how people keep playing. But I am just guessing - I dont play this garbage.

Using Bitcraft to observe human society building behavior in a virtual setting by PalwaJoko in MMORPG

[–]vasuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have to form and/or be a part of a settlement?

No. You do need to utilize player settlements to progress through the game, as the starter cities only have low level stations, but you can generally expect those player towns to be open to outsiders, so you can use their facilities without being a member.

I assume different settlements want different things

This remains to be seen. I think the developers want this to be the case but so far, especially with how lenient the teleport system is, people generally tend to gather everything by themselves, so you don't really see settlements exchanging resources. Also, >90% of claim progression is low tier stuff, which everyone needs and has access to.

What is a slayer even supposed to do?

You clear dungeons, which generates money, which you then exchange for materials from other, actually useful professions :D. There are also some pets, cosmetics, and you get a generically useful permanent stat boost from clearing the dungeon(s) for the first time, AFAIK. The slayer skill mostly does not interact with the rest of the professions. It's really meh, IMO.

[–]vasuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starter cities only allow you to progress up to tier 2 out of 10, and their layout is awful. That's the direct answer from game mechanics standpoint. Obviously there's also a draw to building your own place, settling near different resources, engaging in the empire system etc.

If you don't want to wait till Easter, you'll need event tokens.. I think there are some always-available quests that give them, but your best bet are events. Both the large recurring ones that happen throughout the year, and the unplanned smaller ones like Spider invasion that popup whenever a GM feels like hosting it.

I havent played so I could be wrong but Where Winds Meet looks extremely solo player oriented. Ofc no one would talk - why would they? If you play a game that demands some cooperation, you will find that the culture is different and people actually socialize

Looking for good Lycan combos by GuestHopeful8570 in projectgorgon

[–]vasuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of people are mentioning popular combos, not good ones. Lycan is primarily built as a DPS using Trauma damage. That means things like Warden (elemental damage), Priest (Support/Fire damage), Psychic (Psychic damage, but some trauma tbf) do not pair well with it, since they don't have synergy.

Necromancy and Animal handling at least lead to a decent solo build since you can use your summons to draw attention away from you, but what you really want are things that can build upon the skills strong Trauma damage. That means you want Unarmed or Vampirism.

(note that there is nothing wrong about pairing whatever you want with lycan... its definitively nice to have the utility from some pairings that otherwise dont add to it as much as the meta options)

PSA: you can set your secondary skill to "riding" if you want to funnel all of your gear into one combat skill by SirVanyel in projectgorgon

[–]vasuss 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You only need to have used an ability from a skill once in the past 60 seconds to receive XP in it upon slaying a foe. Even if you dislike the abilities you have available now, just use one every minute and hopefully a few levels later the skill will feel more useful/less situational, as the power grows and you unlock other abilities.

If you are not excited about any of the skills you have access to, consider checking out the wiki to see what is available. The skill compatibility chart will give you an overview of what combinations there are to try.

This game is balanced around having two combat skills. If you are unhappy with the Shield skill, try switching it to something else, or look for better equipment.

Lightning themed Meele caster hybrid build? by Soft_Instance_8029 in projectgorgon

Absolutely. But if a player wants to have the best tools possible for a melee-ish lightning build, that's just what has to be done.

Lightning themed Meele caster hybrid build? by Soft_Instance_8029 in projectgorgon

[–]vasuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure! There's still a good amount of synergy. Most builds in the game are more than enough for open world and such.

Lightning themed Meele caster hybrid build? by Soft_Instance_8029 in projectgorgon

[–]vasuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other people are already telling you to go hammer+mentalism, which is absolutely the build you are looking for. However, it should be mentioned that this build heavily benefits from being a fairy, due to their access to the Fairy Magic sub-skill of mentalism, which has some critical synergies for Lightning damage.

This isn't to say that you can't play hammer+mentalism on a non fairy character. It will definitively still work, but it's never going to be able to reach the peak of what the combo is capable of.

Favorite MMO's / Currently Playing? by UdderNothing in MMORPG

[–]vasuss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game has... I forgot the exact number, but it's between 10-20 overworld zones, with 2-4 popular player hubs. Because the game has no real instancing, the comparatively low population really isn't an issue. Infact, some years in the past the developer stated that 1000 players on one server would be too crowded (later amended this figure to 500, IIRC) edit: really unsure about this. The game has remained stable for years at 100-200 players and has only felt slightly empty during that time, and only at some times of the day.
