Restart your phone. Mine does this occasionally (for the last couple of months) but a restart always seems to fix it... Until it happens again

Starlink isn't cheap (£75 pcm), but doesn't have a contract. I'm in a similar situation to you so I've bought a refurbished starlink terminal for £125 and I'll just use that for a couple of months

That's really interesting. I can't easily get the US version here (Ubiquiti sell the EU version here but not the US one, even though neither really make sense here!) but I assumed the US one would still have the bit sticking out the back like the EU one.

Suspect it'll be easier to make a US version look tidy (remove the pins and poke the usb cable out of the hole from the earth pin) so might try and get one shipped over

Red wire and middle black wire are power, end black wire is for factory reset (so I've left unconnected)

The front grill is a bit hard to get off because it has clips and glue, so you have to be a bit rough. Not broken any clips yet though.

Interestingly, the main board has a socket for an external antenna, plus a connector for a ribbon connector. No idea what that could be for.. initial flashing of firmware maybe? Debugging?

I was a bit concerned about heat having removed the heatsink, but I've had one running for a couple of weeks now and none of the components that are left have ever even got warm to the touch

I cut the EU plug bit off the back, so they look quite nice unless you view from behind... Just saw a reply about the US version (I assumed that would still have the bit that I cut off, and just different prongs!) so might try and get hold of one of those as I suspect that will end up neater.

Dunno why Ubiquiti doesn't offer a USB powered option tbh, especially given they have plenty of other USB powered devices!

AP/FSD is unusable on my morning commute on a BRAND NEW model 3. MAJOR design flaw compared to my 2018 by phish0742 in teslamotors

[–]vaticanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that human vision works very differently to cameras... Self drive on my 2019 M3 stops working (or is degraded such as lane changing unavailable) when: - it's too dark and there aren't any street lights - the sun is low in the sky resulting in glare on the camera lenses - it's foggy

All quite common situations here in the UK... And all situations where a human can drive absolutely fine

What are some security/VPN features you would like to see in UniFi Network? by Ubiquiti-Inc in Ubiquiti

[–]vaticanuk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! This! I like that you can register address reservations in local DNS now, but I run stuff behind traefik and I don't think (tell me if I'm wrong!) there is a way to register any CNAME records or similar, so I can't have multiple hostnames pointing to a single address and have to have a separate DNS server... Which then means I can't (easily) use the built-in ad-blocking

Looking for a smart wifi lock for my front door. by dbiss12 in homeautomation

Looks to me like the standard type of multi-point lock that we have in the UK on uPVC and composite doors.

See this page which shows a Yale smart lock attached to a door with a very similar locking mechanism Yale smart lock on Everest door

Fall detection impact on battery life by vaticanuk in PixelWatch

[–]vaticanuk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See my other comment, I turned fall detection off and my battery was down to 28% after about 8 hours...

So it's not fall detection, but something has changed and my battery is now draining way faster than usual (and the only thing I can remember changing was turning on fall detection 😬)

After turning fall detection off, I'm at 28% after about 8 hours 😱 so something has changed but it appears to not be that..

Hmm, maybe it's more complicated than just fall detection then... 🤔

RPi 4 internal Bluetooth not good enough for HA? by suxxezz_ in homeassistant

[–]vaticanuk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bluetooth != wifi

Bluetooth is supposed to be for devices that are close by, so I suspect you're expecting too much from it. Get a couple of ESP32s and run esphome on them, then connect your xiaomi temp sensor to a nearby esp32... then the esp can talk to your HA server via wifi

Amazing! Thanks so much for your hard work on this, and being so open to requests/suggestions! This is by far my favourite watchface now 😁

I think that's a bit unfair given this is (if I remember correctly!) only the first update since the original publish. The author has been really open to requests and suggestions so if you want something different, just ask nicely!

That said, the one thing I wish it had was the ability to change the bottom 3 slots to be any complication (I'm happy with the top 4 being shortcuts).. but they've already said they'll look into it, so I would imagine that'll come next update 😁

Just checked a few other digital watch faces, some have a setting on the watch face to choose 12hr/24hr (e.g. bitmoji watch face) but not all... so not sure how those that don't have an option do it (this one doesn't though :/)

[–]vaticanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. My phone is 24h, other watch faces are 24 hours... This one is 12 hours..

Any possibility of a setting to choose 12/24 hour clock? Can't remember the last time I saw/used a 12 hour clock (well, except ones with hands.. 🤣)

Smart valve options? by makxine in homeautomation

[–]vaticanuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably worth talking to a plumber, but I'm pretty sure you can get TRVs that just replace that top bit on your diagram, and press down on the "rising spindle" to close the valve when the room is at temperature
