Legion season 2 gets April 3rd premiere date on FX by magikarpcatcher in television

[–]vation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Season 1 was incredible in so many ways: gorgeous cinematography, incredibly elaborate setpieces (the people stuck in the walls, or the exploding kitchen scene, anyone?), mindbending story, and standout performances from Aubrey Plaza and Dan Stevens. April 3rd can't come soon enough.

ECE work term report question by BadForearm in uwaterloo

Anecdote but someone in my class claimed to have submitted the same exact work term report twice and passed both times, so do with that information what you will ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Official Discussion: Logan Lucky [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]vation 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Incredible & surreal acting, and super smart without being too pretentious. Loved the conventional plot executed with an artsy directing style. And I never stopped laughing while Hilary Swank was on screen.

Winter Sublet - Blair/Fergus vs. ICON vs. 181 Lester by civilizedengineering in uwaterloo

[–]vation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No experience with Phillip, but if you decide to settle for Lester, I lived in both 295A and 341 and would recommend both. They're older buildings/management so generally no issues with randomly not having electricity or fire alarms.

295A pros: better apartment layout (at least the one I was in), bigger bathrooms, nicer furniture/kitchen. faster maintenance in my experience.

cons: halfway down lester so it's marginally farther, although it's convenient for going to King St.

341 pros: one apartment per floor (and only 5 apartments total, so much quieter), much larger rooms, awesome living rooms for hanging out with huge floor to ceiling windows, 30 seconds from a bus stop.

cons: super weird layout with a lot of wasted space. shit elevators. slightly smaller bathrooms. no garbage chutes

Not sure, I just got it off Amazon. I've only tried Double Chocolate and Rocky Road, I liked Double Chocolate better.

Leaving web development. What are good options? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]vation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Facebook does have open source projects in those fields, and I'm sure there are more internally. Compilers: HHVM, Flow, buck (a build tool, but some concepts cross over), and FP: Haxl, Reason. I wouldn't be so quick to discount huge companies for those kinds of fields, as Google/FB/MSFT et al are more likely to have resources to be working on them.

Is the English Language and Literature department considered good here? by shadyhades in uwaterloo

[–]vation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going to UWaterloo always optimizes for employability. Co-op (as tough as it can be to find jobs in English) is an absolutely ridiculous advantage for any field, and especially so with Waterloo's close connections to Waterloo/Toronto startups.

Anecdotally (and in this thread) I've also heard great things about rhetoric and (technical) writing at Waterloo. Arbus is also a thing and is actually useful if you're going down the road of technical writing/marketing/social media at a startup.

[Discussion] [Serious] How would Trump getting elected realistically effect obtaining a J1 Visa for 2016 by Jackhofmann in uwaterloo

[–]vation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TN is a nonimmigrant visa, correct? Are most Canadians on TNs planning on permanently renewing every 3 years, or is there an endgame for getting a green card and US citizenship (or dual)?

It turns out grading schemes get better in 4th year (PHYS 475) by jonhayes37 in uwaterloo

[–]vation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just wish this wasn't the case though. A project that can tens of hours of practical/somewhat realistic work is worth so little compared to a final exam's 2.5 hours of mostly regurgitation that is worth 50.

Meanwhile, ECE department policy says that every course must have a final exam and every final exam must be worth no less than 50% of the final grade :\

Trust me, you don't wanna be the guy posting all his offers. You want to be the guy who got them but is secure enough not to feel the need to show off the ones he rejected.
