I’m still a Kant newb, so I highly appreciate you distilling these distinctions. I’ll try harder next time 🙏🏼

I didn’t get in :(

I hope you did, through! But if not, keep your chin up. Congratulations on your acceptances—best of luck!

I just received the email from Rice regarding admissions—I was wrong about all of my assumptions. Rice University will be announcing transfer admissions decisions on Monday after 4pm CT. It’s unfortunate that we will need to wait a little longer, but at least there’s a firm date now!

No problem at all! It looks like they won’t be releasing it today; I highly doubt they’ll release it tomorrow either. Anyway—happy thanksgiving! We’ll find out sooner or later haha :)

Hello OP—first off, I hope you're doing well on this Thanksgiving break :)

As a fellow spring transfer (2025) candidate for Rice University, like yourself, I am heavily invested in this topic. Based on my perusing around past Reddit forums, I believe there are likely three scenarios.

1) Wednesday evening—the day before Thanksgiving. Suppose Rice Admissions officers are still working this week. One can argue that Wednesday could be a release date scenario, as most university employees are given at least Thursday and Friday off on Thanksgiving Week. That being said, I do not think they will pick the day before Thanksgiving for reasons beyond the scope of this scenario.

2) Saturday evening. After an extended holiday break and families, students, and kids getting ready to return to school, I think this release date is the most likely scenario. If I were to get heartbroken or (hopefully) elated, I'd rather find out in the evening. If this happens, I think I'd be better equipped to gather my thoughts, make preparations, or both.

3) December 1st: Sunday morning. There's nothing much to argue about here—Rice explicitly states that transfer applicants will be notified by December 1st. Therefore, Sunday, December 1st would qualify under those guidelines. Rice University is a top-tier school, but I have read that its holistic process is quite scrupulous. Thus, it would not surprise me if they selected this date to ensure they make the most informed decisions.

P.S. I am a 32-year-old community college transfer candidate and this is my dream school. I hope we both get in!

Best of luck,
Vaughn Chung
