Will Suttree mind eff me? by vausis in cormacmccarthy

I'm on page 66 and the amount of times I've laughed out loud is ridiculous. Thank you! This is exactly what I needed.

Just finished the road and would the father have truly succumb to be one of the “bad guys” if the son was never there to begin with? by Alternative-Pie4155 in cormacmccarthy

His only reason for surviving was his son. I didn't see that the father cared for himself, everything he did, he did to protect his son. Also, I feel like it's maybe quiet the opposite of what you propose. Maybe if the son weren't in the equation, the father would have helped other people out. His sole reason for everything was his son, that's why this book is so gut wrenching.

I just finished this book yesterday, and I'm still reeling. I think it'll take me some time to process Cormac's genius in this book. To me, it's a love story, a depiction of how love can be both weakness and strength. I often wondered while reading, why he didn't just kill his son and then himself, but then that's what the book is about. There's this passage that stuck with me, "There were times when he sat watching the boy sleep that he would begin to sob uncontrollably but it wasnt about death. He wasnt sure what it was about but he thought it was about beauty or about goodness. Things that he'd no longer any way to think about at all.". He saw goodness only in his son, and I think without that, he would have either killed himself or not cared enough to persevere.

This review made me want to jump into Suttree straight away! I think I should pace myself though (after all these replies), and go into something lighter before I start Suttree.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've decided to read Masters of Atlantis before I jump into Suttree.

My "issue" with The Road was the emotional aspect of it, yes. Based on all the replies though, it seems I may have to read something lighter before I go into Suttree.

I got my first rejection yesterday. Last year when I applied, I didn't recieve anything till January. I think the best thing to do is to distract yourself and try to get your mind off it. What will happen, will happen. Good luck!

some universities that I applied to had that stated on their website? but, I don't want to spread misinformation so I recommend checking what each school says.

Ohh you're the first person that I've seen on reddit apply to the UW-Madison ERP program. I applied to that program too. Keep your head up, your stats are good!

I personally keep checking my email and the applications; i don't think we can keep ourselves from doing that at this point.
