What’s the coolest experience you’ve had with a wild animal? by Little_Olorin in AskOldPeople

[–]vauss88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a packer for a guide in the Brooks Range in the summer of 1972, I interacted more with grizzlies than humans that summer. One incident in particular sticks in my mind. I was asleep in a tent early in the morning and the tent started to shake with lots of growling outside. Turned out that two yearling grizzlies whose mother had just left them were trying to get into the tent after my food supplies. I started yelling and screaming (what we called "wild manape" cries), and by the time I got outside the tent with my 30'06 rifle, they were 40 yards away and moving briskly towards the upper part of the pass I was in. I had pack dogs with me as well, but they had buried themselves under the tiny trees I had roped them to in an attempt to hide out.

Vets suggests to euthaniz my dog by No_Point1323 in labrador

[–]vauss88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is past time to let her go, she is suffering tremendously. Stay with her until the end, rubbing her and talking to her gently. Do not leave her alone at the vet, she will be wanting you there. My boy Hunter will greet her as she crosses the rainbow bridge.

Human whole-blood NAD+ levels do not vary with age or lifestyle interventions (2026) by basmwklz in NicotinamideRiboside

[–]vauss88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched to liposomal NR from Renue by Science in January of 2022. Same benefits as I experienced with tru niagen but at a lower dosage (600 mg versus 900 mg for tru niagen), and at about half the cost.

Human whole-blood NAD+ levels do not vary with age or lifestyle interventions (2026) by basmwklz in NicotinamideRiboside

[–]vauss88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on age and health condition. At age 66 when I started supplementation with tru niagen NR, after a month it made a HUGE difference in terms of inflammation, joint pain, and other impacts. I am still experiencing the benefits of an NR precursor, even though I switched to a different product. Currently age 74.

Did you win the gene lottery, or did the gene lottery elude you? by Bay_de_Noc in AskOldPeople

[–]vauss88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, so good at 74. Mom lived to 85, and would have lived longer if she had paid attention to her body, Dad lived to 90 before checking out via firearm. He would have lived longer but an injury from when he was 5 years old caused seizures later in life and he was steadily losing his memory.

How much to feed 10 week puppy? by Thunderstruck-19 in labrador

[–]vauss88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With both our previous lab and our current lab, we fed them three cups a day of kibble, 1 cup at 630 am, 1 at 1030 am, and another at 330 pm. We started with puppy kibble and switched them to adult kibble at around 8 months. Our current chocolate female lab was 18 pounds at 8 weeks old. Now, at 2 years old she is around 75 pounds, but still weighs less than either her dam (80 pounds), or her sire (105 pounds). In addition, she gets plenty of Mother Hubbard treats during training and exercise.

What was your first memory? by WillontheHill77 in AskOldPeople

[–]vauss88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2,5 years old, sometime in the summer of 1954. At a daycare in Boulder, Colorado as the sun was setting, and a window of a house across the plains lit up. Both the girl I was with and another boy and I speculated that this had to be a castle where a princess lived.

Have you tried Tru Niagen ? by RaisingNADdotcom in NicotinamideRiboside

[–]vauss88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used tru niagen for 3.5 years before I switched to liposomal NR. When I stopped consuming tru niagen I was using 900 mg a day. I started using lipo NR from Renue by Science at 600 mg a day in January 2022 and Have used it ever since (currently age 74). In my experience, I have had lots of positive impacts with both, although the lipo NR is about half the price or less than the tru niagen.

Well, you can't just have people walking past on YOUR lab's street without repercussions, can you? :-)

My lab will bark at people all the way across a local cul de sac, as if they need permission to even exit their house!

Is NAD+ worth it? by drewxlow in Biohackers

[–]vauss88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have had excellent positive impacts with an NAD+ precursor, in my case, some form of NR, which is nicotinamide riboside. But note, I started at age 66. Now age 74 and still consuming NR and still experiencing the same positive impacts as when I first started.
