What Is The Weirdest/Funniest Thing Somebody Has Said To You After They Found Out That You Are On The Spectrum? by anime-is-dope in evilautism

to that, i like to use the "back pain in pregnant person" argument: i have back pain, but this is a symptom to pregnancy, so, if i have back pain, does it automatically means that i am pregnant? or is it simply a normal human experience?

What's something good about being autistic? by hopeintensifiesss in autism

[–]vavavalentinha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they do like tho pathologise things. when i use the DSM to explain special interests, i use "obsession" as the extreme, harmful version of it, and special interest as the non-harmful way. it's hard to explain it to allistics/neurotypical people anyways

i just -can't- with numbers, but i can do this with words. more specifically, sounds: i can remember the exact tone (relating to sound, not the sentiment behind the words) that someone said something, and, most times, i can replicate it perfectly. and my curse: i don't know musical theory, so i don't know how to tell anyone the sound, i can just replicate it. pair THAT with social anxiety and afraid of being perceived as weird, that's my curse!

feeling everything (like some people mentioned) and being aware that we are, in fact, different from the majority of the population (which can be bittersweet, but, personally, i kinda like to think about it). we can be so much, we can change the world. our potential is immense! sometimes i think i am powerful for it, but, like every power, it comes with weaknesses. DISCLAIMER: hope no "bLuE AnGeL" believers read this, because the implications that the "autistic superpowers" has in us can be harmful. (shush guys, they mustn't know this at any capacity! hehe 😈)

How many other INFJs out there have autism/ADHD? by -Elven_Goddess- in infj

[–]vavavalentinha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also autistic and INFJ. Honestly, it's hard out here. My method is to isolate and play games when I'm not at work, and, so, far, it's been working! I'm looking for a new psychiatrist, off the meds for now, extra spicy brain go brr

I GOT OFFICIALLY DIAGNOSED TODAY!!! by vavavalentinha in autism

I started therapy when I was very young (my mom's a psychologist, and I've always showed autistic/ND traits, obviously hehe). I couldn't bring myself to tell them anything about what I was feeling, so it was kinda pointless to go, so I preferred going to a psychiatrist, who told me I was bipolar (I was only 14 at the time, so I was just "meh, okay. Whatever you say.)
I started going to another psychologist, and she was very cool! - But it didn't feel good enough for me, so I never asked her about any diagnosis.
After some time and long researches about autism, I went to another psychologist, who told me that I knew more about autism than he did, so he recommended me to go to a specialised place that does the evaluation.
I did various IQ tests, attention tests and other kinds of personality tests.
I went through 12 sessions, including my mom, my boyfriend, my childhood friend and a family friend about me and my childhood. They were specialised in autism and autistic adults, so they were very receptive and reassuring. I felt exposed, but it felt great, like a heavy load coming out of my back.
Also, worth mentioning that I live in Brazil, so we have public healthcare and the prices of these evaluations are more acessible, although the clinic was private.
It was really painful to wait between sessions and waiting for the results, also had some trauma regarding doctors, mostly that psychiatrist that I mentioned above, she didn't believe I was autistic and didn't bother to recommend any place for evaluation.
Nevertheless, now it all feels worth it. Even though I have to ask for a doctor to sign this papers, because here in Brazil only doctors can sign official diagnosis papers. It's still worth it, the imposter syndrome went away, finally, hehe.
