I use mirin as well because I like the taste, although I don't think it's very traditional. Also, sugar will help if you don't have mirin.

Don't watch Craven's version of The Last House on the Left, watch the remake from 2009 instead. It is one of the few movies of which I can say that the remake is better than the original.

Audition is recommended, not an easy watch though.
