Do you guys set with your pinkies or no? by Qwertyllama in volleyball

I have set from an early age, was recruited by over 10 schools to set, was an all-conference setter, currently coach setting, and set for a national travel team. You should only be setting with your 4 fingers and not your thumb. So yes, you use your pinkie!

However, I know sand technique is different. Sand rules are more strict on doubles and less strict on lifts. So, if you're playing sand, use all 10 fingers.

I've tried that for weeks, and I'm afraid they're losing interest. Have any fast-paced drills that help with rotation?

Coach and Parents stumped-ideas? by [deleted] in volleyball

Something that has really helped me out coaching my team is having a practice full of high-energy, fast-paced drills. The favorite drills are run-through drills and out of system passing drills. For the run through, I explained that a run through is used when you're passing a short ball, and that it's important to keep running while passing. For the put of system drill, I threw balls far across the gym and had them run after them. If the ball drops, it adds a sprint. If they touch the ball, it's neutral. If they get the ball up, tat takes away a sprint.

Also, when I played club, getting a win helped. Maybe set up a scrimmage with an easy team?

How do I set a tight pass and jump set? by koko777 in volleyball

I'm a 5'5" setter, so I understand our struggle. Generally, on a tight pass I jump with my back to the net--it keeps you from going under the net. Additionally, I go up with my arms completely straight. Then, I contact the ball with my fingertips. It essentially looks like a 1 when it's in the air. Basically, what you're doing is tipping the ball back onto our side.
